Description/Reviews:
Eighteen minute opener ‘Beautiful Is This Burden’, in fairness, wouldn’t have taken long to win me over either way. It opens with a lush, morose string arrangement that builds into something that, while familiar enough sounding within its remit, is vibrant and catchy, oscillating from moments of Alcest-y delicacy to epic Crust power with ease.Altar of Plagues get the nod too with those wide open chords and mantra-ish yelling vocals soaring above scratching white noise. It’s all swells and contours, just as you’d expect, but the riffs are piled on thick across the monstrous opener and the whole piece flows expertly. The minutes fly past.
