Michael Altenberger - all instruments

Description/Reviews
He ... incorporates several styles, including melodic prog, jazz-fusion and classical. His influences are plain to hear including Steve Hackett and Robert Fripp (guitars), Rick Wakeman (synths) and Keith Emerson (piano). Whilst the musicianship is impressive in every department, keyboards are undoubtedly his forte.
His piano skills are particularly impressive; something he demonstrates with lengthy solos during Panta Rhei and Black Memories. The classical-flavoured keyboard orchestrations during the latter are also very well done. Elsewhere, tracks like Three Poisons and Drawing Hope have a quirky charm that brings to mind UK instrumental ensemble Karda Estra.
One of Altenberger's favourite devices, which he uses on several pieces is to conclude with sustained Mellotron-like chords à la Genesis. During Misgivings he also borrows the single-note staccato organ riff from Watcher Of The Skies.

Description/Reviews
An album filled with epic melodies that are at times exotic, at times wistful, and at times have a quasi-folkish air, and which sweep the listener along on a prog-tinged journey that could be the soundtrack to a fantasy film. Fatal Fusion pays homage to the great progressive rock bands of the 70’s, whilst at the same time ensuring that the band’s sound remains unique, with its mix of hard rock, classical music, jazz, psychedelia and Latin.

Description/Reviews
...the new album merges electronic beats, powerful guitar riffs, brooding strings and progressive elements. It manages to be delicate and heavy at the same time and switches from cataclysmic to melodic sounds in a heartbeat – just consider the passage from the opening ‘From Beyond’ to the following ‘Ghosts’, explosively busy one moment, somber and melodic the next .

‘From Beyond’ starts slow and recalls the familiar Blueneck style especially thanks to the comforting and graceful voice of Duncan. The wide range of soundscapes this song covers is impressive, but it’s towards the end that the track changes and will leave you speechless: when you are completely overwhelmed by the relentless crescendo combined with the synths making you feel as though in a locked room that’s about to explode and the melody of ‘Ghosts’ arrives unexpectedly, it wraps itself around you and it’s so beautiful that it will hurt the most sensitive souls.

Anax (J.M) - guitars
Orestis Z. - saxophone
Nycriz - drums

Description/Reviews
Aenaon take fairly established ideas that aren’t that original, but combine them in outlandish ways to create a unique mix. The journey of listening to Hyponsophy goes as such: At the base of the framework sits a foundation of typical black metal – trem picked riffs, fast drumming and chords that alternate between being melodic and dissonant. Then begins a deviation from that standard. The vocals are akin to Dødheimsgard with a “blackened theatrical” feel, blending screams and shrieks with dramatic yelling and other overtly emotive sounds.
But that’s not where the vocal experimentation ends, as singer Astrous incorporates singing that is borderline power metal. The guitar work starts to follow the experimentation of the vocals as it strays into territories that border on blackjazz ... but in the more popular understanding of the genre rather than the fusion-based strain that normally permeates metal. This all results in a mix that can be described as enjoyable, cheesy, serious, simple, complex and other similarly juxtaposed adjectives. Again: there’s no way this should work, but it totally does, as the band embrace their dichotomy to the fullest and make the most of it instead of trying to use it as a crutch.

Description/Reviews
On their new album STONES OF A FEATHER 3rd Ear Experience have taken full advantage of the musical possibilities unique to space rock. It is clear that their environment, the Mojave desert, with its wide open spaces, big skies and rugged landscapes, have helped them to blossom a modern desert music, rich in the complex overtones of 60’s psychedelic rock.
STONES OF A FEATHER, 3rd Ear Experiences 4th album, is a curious mixture of the old and the new; reaching back into the reckless abandonment of Cream live circa: 1967 to Ornette Coleman’s free jazz, diving down into the deep well of Krautrock to soaring on fuzzy Sabbath like riffs of contemporary stoner rock. Yet no generalization is ultimately true of 3rd Ear Experience.
The music was derived from spontaneous ideas that came up during live jams on their 2015 tour of Europe and from free form jamming at the FurstWurld Gallery of Music and Performing Arts where the band records.
The album guests 18 local desert musicians considered by many to be the cream of the desert crop! Dug Pinnick of Kings X fame, returns once again to add his heavy bottom growl to the brew.

Description/Reviews
Opening track Samurai of the Rising Sun has a slow burning opening, all mysterious and enigmatic, setting the scene for what is to come with it’s strange, almost sci-fi feeling sound effects. The brooding guitar and keyboards ramp up the tensions even more before a staccato riff trades off against some rather nice swirling keyboards. Gabriel’s vocals begin and he has a really passionate vocal style that works brilliantly with the music, holding you in its sway. There’s a feeling of treading water, as if you are awaiting something but it is a very pleasant wait. The music just seems to flow along delightfully, it is immediately obvious that these musicians are technically very efficient and yet their playing also has huge amounts of soul. The song opens up with some gusto with fiery guitars and intricate keyboards and Gabriel’s vocals go up another level, this is classic progressive rock done with a large amount of flair.

Description/Reviews
This is different from the previous two efforts, and shows a wealth of influences.  Brieg recently mentioned to me that Opeth and King Crimson influenced the sound of this album, and that after much thought, he has really found his style in progressive/hard rock (especially using ‘real’ instruments and vintage amps).  That all sounds great, right?
What remains is the darkness that drew me to this band’s work in the first place.  “En Desped” is as foreboding (yet cool) as the album’s artwork, courtesy of  Javier Sagasta Lacalle.
BTW, if you can’t understand the lyrics… you (like me) obviously don’t speak Breton; the band continues its tradition of singing in their native language.  But that doesn’t detract from the music (as it speaks for itself), and I really admire the band for championing their culture through their music. Description/Reviews
At the junction between Esperanza Spalding, Blue-Eyed Hawk, and Axon-Neuron, Infinien lay some sick-ass tunes! Light at the Endless Tunnel is a fusion of jazz and psychedelic progressive rock that will absolutely delight those of you with a certain knack for that kind of jams. The entire album is a lovely and wonderful experience that’s only rarely come across. (Dæv Tremblay at canthisevenbecalledmusic.com)

Description/Reviews
Inspired by YES as their name suggests but sonically modern, ... this band may harbor grand ideas yet, as epic as those are, there’s always a song to hide a quirky passage behind a sweet facade.
