Format: digital
Release date: June 30, 2021
Tracklist
1. Passenger III (1:26)
2. Parallels (6:10)
3. The Void (3:14)
4. River (4:22)
5. Reincarnation (6:33)
6. Genesis (10:15)

Total Time 32:00

Line-up
Guayo Arizpe – Vocals
Nacho Villarreal – Guitars
Alejandro Quiroga – Drums
Roberto Cebrian – Bass
   With:
Raul Guerra – Keyboards

Description/Reviews:
Fungi are a Mexican band who take the alt-metal sounds of the late ’90s and early ’00s, and add a progressive edge. I’m not a fan of either label, but for what it’s worth, the sound of Into the Void is somewhere between the music described as grunge and what came after (conveniently enough described as post-grunge), but with the prog dial turned up. I’m often reminded quite a bit of Headspace or A Perfect Circle, for example. The sound is lush and melodic, and full of far more variety than expected. The band’s use of dynamics is awesome, with several beautiful, almost ambient, passages that provide a real sense of soundscape amongst the heaviness. Not that Fungi ever get that heavy, mind you. There are some really chunky riffs, and the music is undeniably energetic and punchy, but anyone who shies away from anything called prog metal need have no fear here.

Description/Reviews:
Proudly stating that there are no guitars on this album, we are treated to a production where drums, vocals and keyboards caters for everything needed, with a synth bass at the bottom end that adds a slight Tangerine Dream feel to landscapes otherwise being very much in the symphonic progressive rock vein and a classic one at that. Catchy elements with a pop music orientation is a part of the proceedings too, so while retro-oriented and distinctly progressive in orientation the music also has an open, inviting and accessible side to it that is striking and a strong identity mark. Those who like their retro-oriented and symphonic progressive rock to be accessible, open and inviting, focusing on moods and atmospheres, should get a lot out of this production.(Olav Martin Bjørnsen at progressor.net's facebook page)

Uaná Barreto — minimoog voyager (2, 4)
Benjamin Mekki Widerøe (Seven Impale) — tenor saxophone (6, 7)
Luís Souto Maior — prophet-6 (7)

Description/Reviews:
Blending influences from sludge and doom, Papangu's fluid sound is sieved through an unique mesh of prog, stoner, post rock and the rhythms of Northeastern Brazil, sounding as if Mastodon and mid-70s King Crimson had teamed up to concoct a Magma-like soundtrack to an anti-Bolsonaro play by Ariano Suassuna. Sludgy riffs are augmented by unusual song structures, syncopated rhythms, unhuman drumming

Description/Reviews:
Thy Catafalque are just getting started though as Köszöntsd a hajnalt showcases folkish melody and female vocals. Gömböc is a mentally draining bout of furious technicality and strange effects which is then met by Az energiamegmaradás törvénye even more intense pacing. Although, the eventual drop in melody at the end is simply wonderful.

Description/Reviews:
Charlie wastes no time putting his jaw dropping riffs on display with the first track, ‘Let Us Dance’ which may or may not be a sequel to the flamenco gem on “Coloratura,” ‘Look, I’m Dancing‘.  A sauntering flamenco riff sets the stage and is followed with a riff that Polyphia fans will call their new jam.  In fact, the whole album has a strong Polyphia feel, and that’s not a bad thing.

Description/Reviews:
As the title TANGO SOLO suggests this album jumps in world of the tango but of course this is UTOPIANISTI so this album is an interestingly unique mix of his classic jazz-fusion sounds which includes some Canterbury Scene flavors as well as classical piano rolls that take the world of tango into (as far as i know) hitherto unexplored terrain. With the tango as the main ethnic theme that pretty much dominates TANGO SOLO, the album is also chock full of quirky avant-prog rock time signatures with percussion rich heavy sections along with the smoothness of saxophone slides and other jazzy elements.

Description/Reviews:
Starting with We Seek The Descending Levers, the 8-minute opener sets off on an ethereal journey of distant chimes, ambient electronica and settled flows. With a gradually building drone that sporadically rises, the track explodes in fits of subtle prog-rock instances that welcomes in a vocal track of naturalistic and psychedelic wordplay: “She erases the sun, puts him to sleep to never repeat.” It’s a brave opener that really only comes out of its shell midway through but allows you to appreciate the slow-burning style Echo Us were going for.

They write and compose experimental songs, with references to alt-rock, post-rock and progressive. Mainly instrumental, they accompany some songs with monologues, creating a mix of avant-garde, psychedelia, noise and more intimate moments.

Description/Reviews:
After their debut album “Spaventapasseri” that has distinguished itself for the dreamlike atmospheres and a songwriting prog rock attitude, Fufluns amaze us with a second album that conveys realism, whose lyrics speak about recent news reports by standing out for a much more Hard Prog arrangements.
Beppe Corna's “Refusés”are 17 sculptures made of earthenware, cloth and acrylic paint. They represent manhood's social exclusion, looking like lonely masks with grotesque shapes. They wear clothes quite similar to straitjackets, forced by the strict society they live in.
They are those who are outsiders by nature, silent and stubborn, celebrating their own kind of outcry. So, taking inspiration from Beppe Corna's works, Fufluns decided to give voice to 9 Refusés, each of them has a story to tell through their album's tracks.

Description/Reviews:
The third album of the band Proportions, After All These Years, kicks off with one of the best pipe organ-like anthems of the year. It seems to be a celebration of the music of Gentle Giant, one of Proportions favorite bands, as referenced from their press release. The band agrees that After All These Years, is the band’s “Most achieved artistic work from all members and special contribution from guests”. ... There are plenty of reminders of Gentle Giant and my favorite prog band, Genesis all over this work. Not copied material, but music inspired by the ‘Giants’ of progressive rock.

Description/Reviews:
The album plays out like a live setlist, starting with the gorgeous instrumental, “Prelude – Love Ballade” serving as a warm-up to the following title track; a playful, funky blues cry hearkening back to a New Orleans’ nola vista. Shifting between a blues shuffle and a swing chorus with a stellar horn section, the repeated motifs become a clear indication early on that the band like to showcase each other’s talents, and rightly so; particular praise for the keyboardist’s short but energetic solo.

Description/Reviews:
While primarily exploring the more psychedelic and laid back parts of the progressive rock universe, complete with occasional sitar details and liberal amounts of Mellotron, softer pastoral excursions appear here and there throughout this production alongside forays into both the poppier side of psychedelic progressive rock as well as the occasional dip into a tighter classic era variety of progressive rock with more prominent guitars and what sounds like vintage era keyboard sounds. Mix and production has something of a vintage era quality to it as well, for better or worse depending on subjective point of view I would imagine. A production to lend an ear to for those who treasure vintage era psychedelic progressive rock explored in an accessible and often but not always laid back manner. Description/Reviews:
Gutsy guitar licks, searing leads, growling Hammond organ, rich keyboard orchestrations, a pulverizing rhythm section, and expressive clean vocals in which we hear an incredible range, tasty harmonies and octaves, and replete with choruses that stick in one’s mind and ears.
We get musical complexity, richness, and variety, all done impeccably and to my ears at least, with much more honest abandon, take-no-prisoners approach, than I heard on their debut disc.

Description/Reviews:
Andy Lind has once again changed and developed stylistically. The music is still very complex, but it's not that tough anymore, growls mostly disappeared. In addition to influences from Avant Prog, Fusion, Progressive Rock and Math Metal, even pop choruses can be heard. The music on the album does not set itself any limits, there are many facets across styles and there is no fear of experiments. Anyone who likes complex progressive rock in the style of Yugen, Gentle Giant, Meshuggah or Haken will be well served here (justforkicks.de )

Mike Risberg - Additional guitar (3, 5, 7)

Description/Reviews:
Composed of both newly written material and songs that haven’t found their way onto a release before, Hirschbrunnen is a treasure trove of wonders, impressively covering ambient, electronic, prog and psychedelic rock. Much like his work with Elder, the songs DiSalvo’s written here reveal themselves gradually, taking the listener on six uniquely stimulating instrumental journeys. Comparisons to his band are bound to be made, and perhaps Hirschbrunnen’s nearest relative would be The Gold And Silver Sessions EP from 2019, which saw the four-piece embrace a more ambient, prog-influenced sound.
