Description/Reviews
A conceptual project with the theme of the Italian city founded in 1230 under the name of “Province of Aquila”. A peculiar city born not by chance, but by a project that finds no precedent in the history of urbanism.
The album's repertoire includes themes related to the city's buildings, places and events, such as “The Great Earthquake”, the third movement of the 5-parts “Aquila” Suite, and its last theme “Phoenix” is an allusion to its resurgence from the ashes.

Description/Reviews
In looking at how the pieces form the whole, “Lovers Calling” (co-written with Alex Lifeson from Rush) stands out as a crown jewel in this recording with a heartstring-tugging bassline from Mohini Dey and Maiah Wynne’s dreamy, contemplative vocals. The overall effect is moody, which pervades the album, but on this song the tenderness underneath really shines.

Description/Reviews
“Fragments of the 5th Element”  finds MAGIC PIE steering clear of the sterile perfection so often found amongst modern Prog bands  in order to create an album with a slightly more unpolished sound, and  a “rough around the edges” feel  that gives it an added bite.  From the genre-defying opener, to the  epic 23 minute closer, MAGIC PIE clearly demonstrate just why they have become a household name amongst Prog Rock fans, and why this album has been worth the long wait.

Description/Reviews
“Zychedelics” (20:17) is a long improvisational live jamming (of course!!!), ultra spacey effected, with a sharp electric guitar sound but with a spacey trippy attitude, getting out there, in the infinite Space, experimenting with various sounds, transmitting different colorful feelings, becoming hot and then cold, becoming dark and then luminous, blending with numerous space-seagulls that are leading the way to some lost frozen planet!

Description/Reviews
Elctro-lurch and toy-town keyboards announce Know Nothing, “… cursed blind, inside minds that never started”. All hail the Victory of Stupid, the world over. One surmises that this is probably not going to be a happy album, lyrically at least. How could it, in these benighted days? On t’other hand all the best art is created in fractious times, and The End of Music certainly fits that theory. But, there’s the thing, a lot of this album is instrumental, and the music, for the most part, is manically “up”, or when taking a breather, merely bubbling just below a taut surface tension. Fire up those long-dormant synapses, let it all in, say I!

Description/Reviews
“A Boat on the Sea” is many things. Catchy and adventurous, but with an underlying current of Scandinavian melancholy—as perfectly captured by returning cover artist DULK. It has huge choruses, rampant guitar play, inventive synths, a plethora of time-signature changes—all the workings of an album of excess, yet it comes together to form a cohesive whole.  Perhaps its most defining feature is that it sounds like Moron Police and no-one else, and no manner of superlative spluttering could really hope to capture its spirit. The best way to describe it would be to hear it.

Description/Reviews
The four-piece from Seattle, WA have crafted eight songs for their first full-length that defy convention and refuse to be pigeonholed or catergorized. Of course, there are influences throughout these eight songs, including ominous bass rumblings that reflect the most famous musical export of their hometown, psychedelic vocal harmonies that could from a parallel universe of the ’60s, and wonderfully bizarre time signatures that would please any math-rock aficionado.

Genre(s): Progressive Rock
Format: digital
Release date: August 14, 2019

1. Ark (11:47)
2. Chasing Neon (5:34)

Mark Gatland - bass guitar (1, 2), guitar (2)
Kathryn Thomas - flute (3)

Description/Reviews
The three tracks are very contrasting. The title track is a twelve minute progressive rock instrumental, inspired by the history of the Ark Royal in the Second World War, based on my grandfather’s experiences flying in a Swordfish biplane during the war.
The second track ‘Chasing Neon’ is a retrofuturistic instrumental piece.
The final track is the band's version of the beautiful old Irish folk-song She Moved Through The Fair.

Line-up
David Tomkins: bass, guitar, synths, voice
Adam Figura: drums

Description/Reviews
Lord Helmet has a great way with a hook-laden tune, and their mix of heavy prog riffing and punchy drumming, barrels along with large dollops of hard rock, classic rock choruses and heads-down punch. But the sound that ices this cake is David Tomkins voice, which sounds like the charismatic offspring of David Bowie and The Sisters of Mercy's Andrew Eldritch.
