Craig Blundell (Pendragon, Frost*, Steven Wilson) - drums
   With:
Kim Seviour (Touchstone) - vocals (14)

Description/Reviews
Following 2015’s acclaimed debut ‘Please Come Home’, ‘The Big Dream’ has a core theme running through it - one that sees The Astronaut, the central character in the Lonely Robot adventure, emerging from a long period in stasis.
Mitchell explains: “The Astronaut wakes up from a cryogenic sleep but finds he’s no longer in space, and is instead in a woodland area surrounded by a group of strange people with animal heads! It's a little surreal, a little ‘Midsummer Night's Dream’ to some extent. This is something of a solipsistic haze, for want of a better description!”

Description/Reviews
Astrosaur is a young power-trio from Oslo. They create an adventurous mash-up of prog, post-rock, prog-metal and space-rock. Their debut album Fade In//Space Out moves from the whispery to the fierce. They touch on, and sometimes give a good kicking too, many points along the way on their instrumental rock journey.

Mythic Sunship "Land Between Rivers"

Country: Denmark
Genre(s): Instrumental Psychedelic, Space Rock
LabelEl Paraiso Records (EPR038)
Format: CD, vinyl, digital
Release date: April 28, 2017
Tracklist
1. Nishapur (15:30)
2. High Tide (13:15)
3. Silt (6:19)

Total Time 35:04

Line-up
Rasmus Cleve Christensen - bass
Frederik Denning - drums
Emil Thorenfeldt - guitar
Kasper Stougaard Andersen - guitar

Description/Reviews
An exploratory vibe feels genuine — that is, when Mythic Sunship dig into a jam like that on “Nishapur,” the really dig into it — and with a complementary thickness of low end to act as a grounding force, guitars roam freely in airy post-rock howls and sunburnt krautrock progressivism. They’re not reinventing the wheel as regards heavy psychedelic transcendence, but Mythic Sunship are clearly doing the work of developing a sonic persona through these jams, and the bouts of cacophony that emerge in the meantime like that nine minutes into the opener or at the swirling apex of “High Tide” excite with the dynamic taking shape.

Description/Reviews
Dai Kaht is a great debut album by a Finnish band deeply inspired by 1970s progressive rock and Zeuhl... Following Zeuhl tradition, the band members have created their own language, which they use in their songs. Although the band’s sound definitely draws a lot of ideas from Zeuhl, the sound is more rock oriented, featuring two guitar players; it’s less jazzy and operatic than Magma. Description/Reviews
When Progressive Metal can be this accessible, it is something special for sure. The prowess of the band is omnipresent, and the heaviness is there as well, yet they let the album breathe instead of stifling you with too many tempo changes and overly technical performances that can sometimes feel cold. Indeed, it is warm, inviting, and full of life and vigor. Forward looking, and with no boundaries, the synergy of Progressive, Symphonic and Modern elements offer what is best about several styles of Metal into one album, with a bounty of wondrous tracks.

Description/Reviews
Mostly, Architecture Of A God could best be described as melodic heavy metal with a strong current of hard rock groove and the twists of progressive metal.
After these things, other elements stand out such as the harmonious vocal arrangements, the keyboard play that adds color and sometimes duels with the guitar leads, and the richness of the melody and groove that gives many of the songs a true AOR feeling.

The overall air about Vicinity has that lighter, melodic progressive metal feel - where the keyboards are as important as the guitar measures, and the rhythm section provides much of the energy pulsation through tight fills and seamless time signature juggling.

Description/Reviews
Since 2000, St. Louis’ YOWIE has been perfecting a unique form of progressive rock that incorporates complex polyrhythms and guitar dissonance.
Operating within its own unique idiom, YOWIE rejects rock music’s typical foundation of common time signature and standard melodic structures. For their 3rd album, “Synchromysticism,” the band has used these tools, as well as the drummer’s (a clinical psychologist) understanding of signal detection theory and delusional mood to convey complex phenomenological concepts in a highly visceral form. This album marks a new level of ambition in terms of conceptual complexity, synthesizing opposing compositional approaches into a distinctive style that simultaneously elicits feelings of euphoria, perplexity, dread... and an inexorable urge to dance.

Description/Reviews
... La Partition flows in a similar manner as Februus as a continuous listening experience, but strays in overall tone and technique. La Partition is broken into three distinct movements or acts in a development of the long-play structure of Februus in a way that better allowing the band to explore various conceptual settings and aesthetics while developing musical ideas in self-containment.
For example, the album’s first trio of songs are most reminiscent of the style of music heard on Februus, with bright ambient guitars and syncopated riffing characterized by uptempo songs and a sense of urgency, yet taking the time to foreshadow the darker passages that follow.

Description/Reviews
The main factor that I would contribute to my confidence in this group's inevitable rise is their flirtation towards post-metal without fully committing to the debatably niche subgenre. Their music commonly holds alternative rock attributes that would seem too tame for the likes of Neurosis or Isis. Although the group's atmospheric and sludgy tendencies are shared with many other large acts within the subgenre's scene, the fact that their songs sometimes contains catchy hooks is certainly an innovative new development.

Bernhard Wagner (Sonar): guitar
Christian Kuntner (Sonar): bass guitar
Manuel Pasquinelli (Sonar): drums
Tobias Reber: live electronics

Description/Reviews
Perhaps sharing similar strands of the kind of polymetrical DNA that informed the interweaving knot-work of King Crimson’s Discipline, the pointillist components with Reuter’s pieces, interacting across the group, resembles a series of interlocking constellations whose orbits and traversals connect to create new variations and associations. Hypnotic and beguiling, the music comes with a guttural punch that’s felt as much as heard.
The music offers deep explorations between tension and release, between the gravitational pull of grooves and floating freefall in space. There’s contrast between stillness and grace next to the ever-changing motion.
Across the 70-minute album these pieces possesses the same metronomic intensity of groups such as Can in full-flight, in which intense, pulsating grooves are strafed by Reuter’s smouldering solos or wreathed in luminous clouds of soundscapes. Without recourse to showy grandstanding, his playing possesses a remarkable, unerring accuracy when it comes to finding the emotional heart of this music. Much like the sparse acuity of a haiku poem, when he plays Reuter understands that less is so often very much more.
The hypnotic quality dominating many of the pieces opens the possibility of trance states, of surrender, of losing yourself in the maze of interconnecting corridors and spaces.
