Description/Reviews:
‘Chaos Within A Construct’ and its respective interlude ‘Double Standards’ more or less establishes this from the record’s offset, its thunderous post rock brimming with confidence as it flows to and from the jazz inclined math rock sequences that bind the track. However, it’s the proceeding ‘Forever The Optimist’ that serves as the record’s first big, standout moment. Towering and beautifully composed, the track’s optimistic metropolitan post rock harkens And So I Watch You From Afar’s sense of imagination and amazement, something that becomes a defining sensibility that only grows across V’s runtime.

Line-up
Heather Darvey – drums, percussion, congas, steel drums, glockenspiel
Matthew Brazel – electric guitars, nylon guitar, acoustic guitar, percussion, synth, FX
Ricky Thom – electric guitars, kalimba, percussion
Ronan Geraghty – piano, keyboards, drums, bass, synths, glockenspiel, percussion, vox, FX

Description/Reviews:
The end of “Goldolphin” is nicely rounded, as quiet piano work takes us back to the spring day. By contrast “Orchid” starts as if we’re in a sound laboratory or an experimental music studio. From the grounded “Godolphin”, there’s a lofty air with hints of magic, melancholy and the East. A distinctively post-rock guitar line combines with the drum beat to bring calm and order back into our lives. At this point I could see where the comparisons with Yes and King Crimson might have come from. Let me add Mike Oldfield to that list. clayhands guide us through a world of dreams, a pleasant one I must say. “Orchid” is a super warm track, giving justification to the band’s self-description as a “human band”.

Total Time 42:10

Line-up
Jean-pierre Larouche : guitar
Nathanaël Labrèche : guitar
Julien Daoust : drums
Hugo Veilleux : drums
Vincent Savary : bass

Description/Reviews:
Bisbâyé may be most notable for including two guitarists and two drum kits, with the two guitarists answering each other’s riffs and the two percussionists answering each other’s beats in real time, and the bassist being the musical fulcrum. This polyrhythmic superposition creates a compelling stereo effect .
The band’s leader cites Don Caballero and Meshuggah as influences. King Crimson’s influence is also undeniable, so is the sophistication of the math-rock genre’s best acts, while you can find some of Larouche’s favorite composers (Steve Reich, Gyorgy Ligeti) in there as well.

Total Time 31:57

Line-up
Colin Marston - Warr guitar
Mike Lerner - guitar
Jason Bauers (Psyopus) - percussion

Description/Reviews
The band’s weapons, once again, are absurd technicality, inspiration drawn from avant-garde composers like Arnold Schoenberg, and an utter disregard for traditional understandings of tonality and melody. On Hapeleptic Overtrove, Marston and company focus on dizzying intricacy and speed a bit less than on previous efforts, but their newfound determination to eschew everything resembling standard percussion and unwillingness to part ways with their oddball technicality ensure they remain committed to their own brand of trailblazing strangeness.

Description/Reviews
...the album is like a heady mix of Infinite Shred, TWRP, and Adebisi Shank. Yeah, I invoked the name of the great Adebisi Shank here and it is more than warranted; just listen to tracks like “Produce” or “Meats” and tell me you don’t feel that Adebisi wildness coursing through your bones. Add to that the rich synth tones of “ANNOUNCEMENT 1: Our Associates” and its spiritual successor “Floral”, a whole bunch of crazy guitar stuff like the solo on the aforementioned “Meats”, the irreverent samples which call to mind that TWRP reference, and you can start to get a glimpse of the unbounded energy of this album.
