Un'altra mano di carte shows Limite Acque Sicure's vision of progressive rock, respectful of the lessons of the 70's masters but at the same time with a more rock and melodic push, with more touching themes - in some ways political - than the frequent fantasy or introspective topics of the prog genre. Human evil and narcissism in Joker, the conquest of Latin America by the Spanish in Il racconto di Juan della sua terra, the horrors and pains in the trenches of the First World War in Natale 1914, the abuses and injustices against women in Chita, the suffering of a nameless man in ...non il Bergerac, the wish to listen to the truths of other people in Storie perdute. The story of life experiences by characters sometimes fictional and sometimes real, sometimes current and sometimes remote in time, which highlight profound, little-known and even uncomfortable topics, such as rebellion, marginalization, inexorability. But always, in the end, with a thread of hope.

Description/Reviews: 

Opener Overture starts of as expected, but must sound great at the start of the band’s live shows. It certainly sounds rousing and majestic. La Bottega sing completely in Italian and Fumo D’anime features bombastic instrumentation alongside clean vocals, which thankfully are not overly operatic. The mix of keys and more traditional metal guitar work is well balanced. Ordine E Follia edges more towards La Bottega’s folk influence and is delivered acoustically to begin with. It’s catchy and very listenable before there’s a quiet mid-section that seems to slow momentum a bit. That’s followed by a full electric assault of excellent musicianship.

Description/Reviews: 

SMBH brand themselves as ‘progressive death metal’, though that’s a far too limiting label, since over the course of the album, they showcase a hugely diverse array of genres and influences on their creative palate. Although they have a distinctly avant-garde feel to their music, with elements of jazz, blues, folk, space rock, djent and way more, the songs aren’t lost in pretense or over-ambitiousness; they just rock, and do it well. The album has a total ‘fuck yeah!’ quality to it, packed with thrashy percussion, triumphant and kick-ass riffs, and even a vocalist that sounds as if Jamey Jasta fronted a techdeath band. The technical skill on display is remarkable, well-rehearsed, and though a little sloppy, each musician shares great chemistry and each brings one their own influences to the record.
