Síndrome de Estocolmo documents a series of events leading up to widespread draconian incarcerations by a state, and explores the theme of whether detainees would ever develop Stockholm Syndrome - an irrational compassion that victims form towards the captor. To depict the evolving story, songs on the album offer a variety of styles, including hard rock, avant-garde metal, classic progressive rock, alternative/pop art rock and psychedelic rock. Listeners will find a healthy dose of rich heavy guitars, ethereal sonic textures, interjected with emotional melodic lines.

Description/Reviews: 

This is a duo album in every sense with the two taking on all instrumental and vocal duties, and nailing them, it has to be said. The blend of rocky progressive pop with a punky edge and effects driven keys is a fun listen, the compact and high energy songs still managing to find space for dexterous musicianship, and they can certainly pen a hooky melody too. They pitch the songs at the centre of the Venn diagram taking in XTC, Mr. Bungle, The Police, Queen and Frank Zappa – if there were such a thing – and you can see where they’re coming from.

In looking at how the pieces form the whole, “Lovers Calling” (co-written with Alex Lifeson from Rush) stands out as a crown jewel in this recording with a heartstring-tugging bassline from Mohini Dey and Maiah Wynne’s dreamy, contemplative vocals. The overall effect is moody, which pervades the album, but on this song the tenderness underneath really shines.
