We live in a area full of racoons, so we instantly found the name Kozmik Koon.

 “Haukøye” with its powerful drumming and the tribal rhythm shows a heavy attitude that flirts at times with the early 90s symphonic hard rock. The weird “Trollmannens Hytte” follows, with an eerie intro some female announcements (or something) under an electro-ambient-psychic- like environment, really experimental but trippy too. Then, a huge spacey bubble explodes with “Satan i Blodet”, the scenery becomes more space-rock oriented but still heavy (with a pinch of psych), a track that is built upon heavy bass lines and some real hot guitar riffs.

The end result is an offering that’s immersive and beautiful, foreboding at times and moodier, but never relinquishing its hold on the consciousness of the listener, the band not necessarily needing volume to make their statement heard. Whether it’s the (relative) surge in the second half of opener “Kim (((o)))” or the sitar-laced drift that hypnotizes into the fadeout of the penultimate “Overwhelmed,” the feeling of serenity never departs entirely from Sherpa‘s sound, giving Tigris and Euphrates a hopeful aspect that bleeds into every song in one way or another.

Time has come – once more: Sula Bassana walks on electronic trails again and produces an album in the attitude of electronic krautrock! After the successful forerunner «Shipwrecked» (2016), which was built mostly on electronic instruments, the sound is a bit more relaxed on this album. «Organ Accumulator» accured on the application of portable keyboards and little organs, also synthesizers, drumboxes, etc...
The track «Lichtbuendel», for example, was recorded almost only on a Casiotone 403, played via the fat effect board and guitar amp. «The Frogs» almost sounds like a John Carpenter soundtrack, whilst the title track is the by far most spacerocky track. «Grashamster» is the most krauty one, with loads of Farfisa Syntorchestra and Roland Vocoder Plus, which (together with a Yamaha PS 30) also builds the sound-footing of «Nebelschwaden», a slighty Vangelis influenced song.

Though primarily keyboard/synth/electronic driven, the opening track Moonbase Alpha Alpha has a rocking and somewhat Motorik rhythmic pulse. The beats and melodies give the music a Kraftwerk/Neu! feel, the drones, floating electronica and syncopations inject a bit of sci-fi soundtrack, and the whole feels like a pulsating and grooving slab of electro robotic yet soundscape enveloped Space Rock. Shushi Express ups the rhythmic ante with a dancey tribal groove which is coupled with a pulsating Eastern flavored chant drone and shamanic melody. I like how Sula combines multiple contrasting yet seamlessly cohesive repetitive elements to create a hypno-throb meditational groove meets alien dance party piece. No Time: No Eternity is like an Eloy/Floydian Space-Prog soundtrack anchored by a single attention grabbing throb beat and a spellbinding Mellotronic string melody. Sula escalates the trance-throb effect on Planeta Bur, which is characterized by mesmerizingly swaying harem scarem Arabian melodies, drones and atmospherics. The title track is a peacefully somber yet uplifting electro string ensemble that my mind’s eye sees performed among the planetarium dome stars. And No Way is a brief early 70s analog synth sounding call to cosmic prayer coda to this outstanding set.

Side A opens in stoned, grooving cosmic mode, and gradually picks up the pace as the fuzzed out and acidic elements mesh with one another and the buzzing and tinkling effects provide an alien presence. I like the free-wheeling Space-Blues and generally brain scrambling jamming from the guitars as the music trips along steadily in stoned, doomy space. Later the music transitions to a freakier passage where the organ is pulsating, the guitar is cranking out wailing and bubbling, spaced out angst licks, and the rhythm section is maintaining a slowly propulsive march that eventually starts to rock harder but not much faster as things go cosmically quiet for the Side A wind down. Side B picks right up and quickly develops into a spacey Psychedelic Pink Floyd mode, at first having a deep space Shine On Your Crazy Diamond vibe and then morphing into an extra lysergic Set The Controls For The Heart Of The Sun groove with spaced out and acid crashing guitars and eerie oscillating organ lines, creating one big atmospheric and effects laden voyage.

...the trance coming on early in “Hypnotika” as it unfolds gradually over its first three minutes and twisting here and there, getting heavy at the end of the title-track and finding “The Picture” as perhaps the most riff-based jam Electric Moon have proffered in their time together, before “Aerosoul” ups the swirl and wah quotient to finish the show with a full on crest-and-recede process, Lulu underscoring a wash of guitar and crashing drums that lead to a last-minute swirlout.

The title track opens the proceedings with Komet Lulu's bass laying the foundation of a rhythm that does not waver an inch throughout, the bass and the drums keeping almost metronomic time. The guitar of Neeff soon makes itself heard and straightaway you can tell that you are in for a fest of acid jamming of the highest order. The synths don't get left out, they add some wonderful washes of spacey sound that give the track some real texture. As the track progresses Neeff really lets loose with his instrument...rich in distortion at times with layers of reverb and wah wah. It is with tracks such as this that the organic symbiosis of a seasoned group of musicians can be heard .....each instrument seems to feed off each other and as one takes a breath there is another to step up. The track rattles along with Neeff's guitar making shapes ...sometimes fluid, flowing shapes, sometimes stabbing, staccato shapes but the level of intensity never drops below 'freakout' . It really is a monumental track......whilst writing this I listened to it several times on the turn and every time there was something new to pick out - a trace of a middle eastern melody here, some kosmische keyboards there ....but from the initial bass notes to the concluding crescendo this is sublime psychedelic music played by four heads who know how to fry your synapses.

Seven That Spells have garnered quite a reputation on the underground psych scene and from the basis of this album alone it is easy to see why. Hailing from Croatia but with a strong founding in Japanese culture, they deliver a heady dose of deep psych that you may just want to find somewhere safe to lie down to first before listening.

Not that this is obvious from opening track 'In II' whose kaleidoscopic guitar riff signals a descent into the madness that follows. It's all rather run of the mill and basic but that's the trick you see. It completely disarms you whilst also taking on the role of an introductory flight into space.

The title track opens the set and in the first moments sounds like it might be a Hawkwind Assault & Battery cover. The music does indeed flow with that kind of vibe. It’s dreamy drifty Space Rock, with melodic guitar, deep space symphonic and soundscape synths, and bits of freaky electronic effects. Later the music transitions to heavier Space-Prog rocking mode that carries us through to the end. Sitarguitar kicks off in a similar style, jamming along in dreamy Hawkwind friendly spaceland. Again I’m reminded of Assault & Battery, specifically the feel of Assault & Battery/Golden Void from Hawkwind’s Palace Springs. At 12 minutes it’s the longest track but pretty much stays in the same groove, though like the last track it gets more chunky rocking in the last minutes. I would have liked to hear more transitions. In fact, I think this music is screaming out for a vocalist.

It’s a stellar album for each band on their own, and for the third one they seamlessly meld into.
