Description/Reviews:
A roster of great contributors come together in this project helmed by Norwegian musician and composer Eivind Lorentzen (ex-Gentle Knife, Oldenborre, K, Synsbedragerne etc). Together they create an album of evocative minimalist prog characterized by great performances interspersed with readings of Rilke. Firmly rooted in the prog, modern classical and nordic jazz realms, and nodding to Vasks, Reich, Fripp, Frahm, Bartsch and others.
Repeating motives in asymmetric meters are contrasted and echoed with live strings, drums and acoustic and electric guitars.  A listener phrased it as “humanistic minimalism”. At first glance apparently nothing much goes on… but then it does… Hope remains a central dimension in the record, expressed in the album title Leave Nobody Behind and the eponymous pieces as well as in the pieces Dimensions of Hope I-II, and notwithstanding The Dark Hours of my Being (a Rilke poem recited on the record).

Description/Reviews:
Opus Arise (ft. members of Svneatr, Thousand Arrows, Ysgaroth) is an orchestral metal ensemble that brings together classical strings and metal rhythms to create luscious soundscapes to dissonant chaos. They are about to drop their second album this winter, entitled “The Network”, which will send listeners headfirst into a cyberpunk world where frequencies and chord progressions are believed to be catalysts for time travel. Although there are no lyrics, the theme is easy to pick up on, as the tension, the relief, and the drama of the story are within. Compared to their previous album “Revelation” (2016), their compositions have become less metal driven and they have grown the string section from a trio to a quintet and are planning to incorporate more orchestral instruments.

Description/Reviews:
Always ready to expand their scope and blur the genre borders, the inventive, revered French avant-rock band have decided to tackle the field of contemporary classical music from the mid-20th century, in a special project which pays tribute to four major atypical figures: Giacinto Scelsi (1905-1988), György Ligeti (1923-2006), Edgard Varèse (1883-1965) and Morton Feldman (1926-1987).
Drawing inspiration from these composers’ respective approaches in terms of dynamics, sonic textures and duration, more specifically from Scelsi’s exploration of timbres and oscillations, Ligeti’s moving clusters, Varèse’s melodic cubism and Feldman-type graphic scores, Aquaserge have approached this album with a mixture of raw intuition and strict method, and have created pieces for a hybrid, semi-classical and semi-rock expanded 9-piece line-up.
The album revolves around three slow, extended, spacious pieces, in which the instruments’ timbres are merging into one another to create a fascinating sonic matter, both immobile and moving, like in certain works by Ligeti and Scelsi. By contrast, Aquaserge’s tributes to Varèse and Feldman include explosive moments, as well as segments of wild improv. These original Aquaserge compositions are completed by interpretations of three rare songs written by Edgard Varèse (on a poem by Verlaine) and Morton Feldman (on a Rilke text), which remind us of Aquaserge’s taste for melodies.

Description/Reviews:
As a composer, Rachel seamlessly weaves together elements of progressive rock, jazz, classical, and pop music with cinematic orchestrations, soaring melodies, and virtuosic playing. Top this off with Rachel's 3 1/2 octave vocal range and her uncanny ability to explore universal themes ranging from love, joy, and hope to depression, bullying, and fear of an uncertain future with sensitivity and optimism, and you have an album that is destined to stand the test of time.

Description/Reviews:
The word cantata by definition is "a vocal composition with an instrumental accompaniment, often involving a choir." Livgren's cantata, decades in the making, is a vocally and symphonically driven tour de force inspired by the Bible's Book of John (11: 1-45). Make no mistake, this isn't classic or progressive rock. Rather, Lazarus is a sweeping majestic orchestral masterpiece that highlights the most beautiful music instrument ever created, the human voice.

Description/Reviews:
The Ageless Gate is the atmospheric debut album by cellist Joost van Dongen. An album full of instrumental music that invokes strong images. Together, the 13 songs tell a tale that spans three centuries, starting with a mysterious artefact and culminating in a gate to another world. The story is told by short text pieces in between the songs, voiced by voice actor Chris Einspahr.
The cello is the foundation of the album, which varies from cello trios to songs with cello, drums, guitar and keyboard. It is unique music with a sound that goes from melodic and euphoric to dark, pumping cello rhythms.

The presence and prominence of instruments such as bass clarinet, cello, clarinet, flute, oboe, trombone, trumpet, and violin might push some of the music on Lunarians towards "classical" music, but probably not far enough for it to no longer be rounded off to "prog."

It is part of a re-worked version of interviews Stefano Giannotti held with the personnel of the Hospice of San Cataldo (Lucca) for the short film SAY HELLO TO THE CLOUDS (2012). These testimonies became words for pieces in perfect OTEME style, halfway between folk songs and chamber music, avant-rock and contemporary poetry, historical 1900s and psychedelia, “almost-a-radio drama” and musical theatre.

Description/Reviews
Fans of avant-progressive and post-jazz and rock music like Jaga Jazzist, Mike Oldfield, Electric Masada, Steve Tibbetts, Tortoise, and Cinematic Orchestra will be enthralled. The Wandering feels both cinematic and powerful, beautiful, and dark. The musicians called upon contributed top-notch performances, and while very few of the players had the chance to record together, the resulting ensemble is stunning. The compositions are filled with compelling soundscapes that embrace an array of instrumentation through layers of contrasting but complementary environments like orchestral strings with odd-meter backbeats, or woodwinds floating over synth bass lines. There is a strong rock foundation in heavy grooves, reinforced at times by distorted guitars and screaming melodies. From the album’s first note until the last, the music’s peaks and valleys are sculpted and the arc flows with intention from one song to the next.

Description/Reviews
With its often gentle, thought-provoking songs, The Bell is a fine addition to the Iamthemorning catalogue. Although they occasionally spice-up the songs with a variety of instrumentation, including bass and drums, for me they are at their best with voice, piano and occasional acoustic guitar and strings.
