Tracklist:
1. New Cancer (8:31)
2. Golden Wounds (6:41)
3. Symbol (8:54)
4. Satin Night (9:45)

7. Yosemite (9:49)

Total Time 52:26

Line-up:
Alexandre Berenguer - Guitar
Arnaud Laffont - Bass, Vocals
Nicolas Saravia - Guitar
Tommy Hercher - Drums

Description/Reviews:
Aiming as cross genre as they dare on a debut album is an ambitious enough template; the post rock/prog metal core getting  tweaked into alternative areas of metal and hardcore, even blending in some eighties electro. The result of two years work and mastered by Karnivool knob twiddler Forrester Savell, the seven songs on the debut ‘Heal’  sound clear, crisp  and upfront.

Line-up:
Chris Mackrill - vocals
Joe Danher -guitars
Josh Catchpole -
James Lorenzo - drums

Description/Reviews:
‘Beautiful Fiction’ returns to more progressive territory. A contender for standout track of the album, James Lorenzo’s Neal Peart-esq drumming meshing perfectly with Mackrill and Joe Danher’s swooping guitars.
It’s a precision groove of which the likes of Rush, Karnivool and – more recently – Dream the Electric Sleep would be proud, and proves the perfect foil for the brooding ‘No Sleepers Verse’, conjuring up as it does a smoldering scorched Earth soundscape for the hard of sleeping.

Release date: April 15, 2016
Tracklist:
1. Find Where You Hide (4:14)
2. Everything Is Upon Us (3:59)
3. Back To The Start (5:19)
4. Smile All You Like (3:43)
5. Deep Sea Avenue (3:25)

11. Above The Sky (6:52)

Total time 49:00

Line-up:
Joe Rosser - Vocals
Leah Woodward - Guitar
Pin - Guitar
Jof Walsh - Drums
Joe Heaton - Bass

Description/Reviews:
The greatest gripe that can be levied against Derangeable is that it is perhaps too much. Each song is laden with these furious intricacies, raging growls, emotional vocal cleans, pounding drums, thumping bass, jarring spots of both ritardando and accelerando, and just about every musical dynamic you can wrap your head around. By about track 6 or 7, you start to experience fatigue with the album, which is really unfortunate, because as a whole, it’s supremely good. Derangeable is best consumed in spurts of about three to four tracks at a time or thrown on shuffle with similar artists of your choosing (SikTh if you want to be cheeky, but Protest the Hero, Novallo, Red Seas Fire, RXYZYXR, or deely), as it is quite a lot to take in from front to back.

  4. Resistance 05:00
  5. The Turning Point 03:55

  8. Speechless 05:16

  11. Vimana 04:40
Line-up:
Kaan Tasan: Vocals
Dan Reid:  Guitar
Harry Edwards: Guitar
Colin Bentham:  Drums
Tom Parkinson:  Bass

Description/Reviews:
It’s immediately apparent, from the fluid complexity of the instrumentation, to the palpable passion of the vocals (a good 75% of which are of the clean-sung variety), that the band are less interested these days in ticking all the right boxes to fit in than they are with finding new, and better, ways to express themselves musically.
As a result, much of the album shirks the rather lazy “Tech Metal” tag that has dogged them since their inception, and errs much closer to the more emotionally expansive and progressive sound of Thrice than it does the majority of their polyrhythmically-inclined peers – a feeling enhanced in particular by the steadily developing vocals of frontman Kaan Tasan, which are delivered with a sense of conviction that sets them head and shoulders above the attention-seeking histrionics of so many of the band’s contemporaries.

Heights "Phantasia On The High Processions Of Sun, Moon And Countless Stars Above"

Country: UK
Genre(s): Progressive Metal/Rock
Label: Basick Records
Format: CD, digital
Release date: April 27, 2015
Tracklist:
1. Universes Forming
2. Solar (Bringer Of Chaos), Lunar (Bringer Of Light)
3. Aeolus
4. Time Dilation
5. New Star
6. Centrifuge
7. Perseids
8. Heliograph
9. Astronomer Royal
10. Ballad Of The Space Time Continuum
11. On The Wings Of Astral Projection
12. Everlasting

Line-up:
Al Heslop
John Hopkin
Jamie Postones

Description/Reviews:
Heights’ facility with prog rock’s core components (odd time signatures, stacked-like-Jenga-blocks polyrhythms, none-more-syncopated riffs and melodies, the delicate balance of flamboyance and deeper meaning, etc) has been well documented over the course of previous releases Salvation and Trepidation, From Sea to Sky, and Trick of the Light. Throw in classical, jazz, and fusion influences, and you have the full Heights picture. Understatement of the day ahead: Phantasia… is a bit complicated.
This album is a serious beast, one solid hour of music crammed full of data, the long-player equivalent of a .zip file. Only three of its 12 tracks run under five minutes, and all of them comprise hopscotch-style rhythmic structures and waves of angular, anxiety-ridden notes. This is the kind of album you could only hope to understand with the aid of a transcription book and a lot of patience – but you need neither the ability to read little black dots nor a full understanding of precisely what’s happening at any given moment to get enjoyment or satisfaction from Phantasia.

Rémi Gallego

Description/Reviews:
Octopus4 is a stylistic evolution for The Algorithm, taking the act further into progressive and experimental electronics and away from metal, just as the debut full-length album Polymorphic Code left off. The heavy drum and bass grooves and angular arps may mimmick the aggressive attack of technical metal, and Gallego even manages to pick up a guitar during key opportune moments, but Octopus4 is first and foremost an electronic record. Don’t be fooled by the inaccurate “math metal” and “progressive metal” Last.FM tags or the crowd The Algorithm associates with; it’s all a clever ruse to expand the sonic palette of a genre that is nearly defined by a single guitar tone.

Alaya "Thrones"

Country: USA
Sub Genre: Progressive Metal
Label: Basick Records
Release date: March 17, 2014
Tracklist:
1. Inside
2. White Noise
3. Sleep
4. Screaming Still
5. Poor Gloria
6. Haunted Pt. I
7. Grace
8. Day of the Dead
9. Thrones
10. Paths
11. Entropy
12. Haunted Pt. II
13. Haunted Pt. III

Line-up:
Evan Graham Dunn - Guitars, Vocals
David Jacob Robison - Drums
Michael Brandt Rinkenberger - Bass

Description/Reviews:
Alaya perfectly understand the power contained in the joining of bass-heavy breakdowns and provocative lead guitars. The result keeps you at the edge of your seat throughout. This is further amplified by their extremely unique and progressive song structure; whenever a song seems to take an obvious turn, something will come along and break it. Oriental samples, weird snippets of distorted keyboards, or simply a breakdown where one was not expected—all these contribute to making song progression unique and engaging. However, Alaya are not afraid to keep it simple as well, where it’s needed. Songs like ‘Inside’ or ‘Sleep’ are simply catchy, relying on well-founded riffs to hook the listener in. Where others might have felt self-conscious, Alaya fully embrace the attraction of such alluring tools and use them masterfully.

Intervals "A Voice Within"

09 - A Voice Within - 8:30

Line-up:
Mike Semesky - Vocals, Bass
Aaron Marshall - Guitar
Lukas Guyader - Guitar
Anup Sastry - Drums

Description/Reviews:
Intervals was known in the progressive metal world for being one of those rare instrumental bands that wasn't purely focused on technical ability - rather, just catchy riffs and soulful leads by lead guitarist Aaron Marshall designed to replace the role of a vocalist. The band had always been open to taking on a singer, but simply never felt the need to add one. However, there is a certain plateau that can be reached with instrumental music in terms of popularity, and it's unlikely that its appeal will stretch beyond a niche market (bands like Animals As Leaders prove that this is possible, but they are the exception and not the rule). Therefore, when Mike Semesky, former vocalist of Vestascension and The HAARP Machine, joined on bass toward the end of last year, suspicions arose that he would also become the bands' vocalist and help them establish themselves as a more popular band by breaking free of the boundaries imposed on bands playing exclusively instrumental music. These suspicions were confirmed alongside the band's announcement of their fittingly titled debut album, A Voice Within. Hang up any worries about the transformation of the band, because AVW is a smart, catchy album that fuses the guitar focused style of their previous EPs with neatly integrated vocals, with some surprises thrown in along the way.

Description/Reviews:
You can not predict how any track on IO is actually going to sound all you can guarantee is more intensity than anything else you’ll find out there at the moment. Every guitar riffs bring the perfect mixture of complexity and power especially through tracks such as Name Your Price and Enemy of Logic. Fortunately No Consequence are far far more than a glorified guitar project, when everything comes together from Collin Bentham’s controlled smashing drums to Kaan’s polar opposite vocals you find a band who truly know what they’re doing. They aren’t out to just show off they’re out there to make bloody great music. Their technically ability to blend technically complexity to make catchy songs is a talent to be proud of.
