Description/Reviews
In this second part of Stewart Bell's epic trilogy of concept albums we are once again taken on a journey through the inner realms alongside the main character, The Dreamer and his mentor, The Teacher. Taking place during the same time period as The Antechamber Of Being Part 1 the story follows the main characters as they continue to explore the amazing experiences made possible through lucid dreaming; the weird phenomena inherent with this type of conscious exploration of one's mind; the questions that arise through encounters with seemingly independent dream beings and; the realisations and conclusions that are ultimately reached after a lifetime of dreaming awake.

Description/Reviews
The Oulu natives earn it well in the four tracks of Psychedelogy... and stay true to the Hawkwindian roots of the genre while exploring progressive textures of their own. At an easily-digested 38 minutes, Psychedelogy presents its two sides — side Space and side Void (the last EP did likewise) — with poise and without pretense. They’re going on this trip one way or the other. Whether or not you come along is going to be your call.

1. The Fallen
2. Forever Fade

7. Sunrise (Uriah Heep Cover)
8. Wolf of Velvet Fortune (Beau Brummels Cover)
9. After All (The Dead) (Black Sabbath Cover)

Line-up
Victor Arduini (ex-Fates Warning) - guitars
Brian “Butch” Balich (Argus) - vocals
   With
Chris Judge (Freedoms Reign's) - drums
Nick Bellmore - drums (7, 9)
Bruce MacPherson - keyboards (7)

Description/Reviews
Arduini/Balich’s goal is to create monumental doomed progressive metal, and they definitely succeeded. The album starts with the ten-minute opener The Fallen, where the band shows from the start that they are not in a hurry to get to the point. A one-minute long guitar intro paves the way for something like a second intro, with the other instruments joining in, creating a melancholy atmosphere reminding of early Trouble. Especially the weeping guitar should allow for this comparison. Nearly halfway into the song, it’s finally time for Butch Balich to join in, and his strong vocals are really quite unique. At times they remind me of the hoarse perfection of Omen’s J.D. Kimball, an extraordinary artist who left us much too soon. The following Forever Fade is at six minutes the shortest regular track on the album, and despite a doomy intro, it gains momentum rather soon and feels like a refreshing mix between US power metal and proto doom metal.

Picking up from where the first album left off - with its examination of societal control mechanisms - Tardigrades looks at the inevitable outcomes should humanity continue down dark, dogmatic pathways. Musically, the album is an expansive Rock statement with a heavier, more Metal-oriented focus than its predecessor.

Description/Reviews
DISPERSE manage to make complexity appear easy and add an incredible lightness to cascading syncopated breaks, odd-time signatures and all the tools of the trade that are considered as essentials for progressive music. 'Foreword' is the logical step further from previous opus 'Living Mirrors', which witnessed the hopefuls injecting fresh momentum into the progressive genre. Elements of such giants such as PINK FLOYD, DREAM THEATER, and CYNIC were playfully incorporated, whirled around, and fused with other ingredients raging from Metal to Jazz into a new exciting sound.

Jan Wälchli – guitar
Ueli Heiniger – bass
Remo Röschli – drums
Steve Diener - vocals

Description/Reviews
Palmer’s sound oscillates somewhere between post-metal and prog-rock with spherical timbres. This band works intuitively and without restraints and their creations reflect an energy of immediate presence.
Their new album ‘Surrounding The Void’ contains 9 songs that boast originality. Inspired by different niches from the world of extreme metal, prog-rock, jazz and ambient sounds, Palmer have always followed their own distinct path, continually looking towards the future and pursuing their own individual Soundscape. ‘Surrounding The Void’ reflects Palmer’s typical aspects such as tension, relief and extreme dynamics. These core aspects are immediately apparent on the new album and seem even more mature and distinct. (thesludgelord.blogspot.com)

Line-up
Lorenzo Esposito Fornasari (aka Lef) - vocals, keys
Colin Edwin (Porcupine Tree) - bass
Pat Mastelotto (King Crimson) - drums
Carmelo Pipitone - guitars

Description/Reviews
Because of the presence of drummer Mastelotto, it would be easy to draw comparisons to King Crimson for this project. (The opener “Too Numb” in particular has a kind of Discipline vibe in its interlocking ostinatos that create a hypnotic latticework pattern against Fornasari’s menacing vocals). One can also hear traces of such artistically inclined groups as Pink Floyd in ambitious tunes like “Scarlet Water,” “Just Another Bad Day” and the extraordinary “Capture or Reveal.” But O.R.k. draws on a myriad of other influences throughout Soul of an Octopus that encompass prog-rock and even bits of opera, as can be heard in Fornasari’s dramatic and wide-ranging vocals on tunes like the intense closer “Till the Sunrise Comes” and the epic “Dirty Rain.”

Description/Reviews
The intention here is blatantly obvious: to throw everything, including several kitchen sinks, at this album and create an opus of gargantuan proportions. Aathma is an hour plus of mindbending and bombastic progressive death metal, with lashings of soaring melody, proggy and symphonic stylings, high-level musicianship, atmospheric moments (Vacuum is quite beautiful) and whatever else the band could think of at the time. They even channel Cynic during Living Waves. All culminating in the title track, which is a twenty minute, multi-suite epic, rounding out the album.

Description/Reviews
The band released their seven track debut ep six and a half years ago and now release a professional recording of the same album with an addition of four songs (well six if you count the instrumental parts as different songs). But the band has chosen to call the new additions to their full length debut for four little miracles, miracles that increase the length of the album with 36 minutes. ...
When I first reviewed this in August 2009 I made references with Yes and Kansas today 2016 the references would be the same but also add Pink Floyd to the list, not to do so would be a miss, that is if you should mention any references.

Description/Reviews
INNATE has 7 compositions of eclectic genres, putting jazz, rock, ambient, punk, classical and conceptual music into one and tremendously leaning on traditional music from Balkan and eastern European music. Most of them (precisely five) are in an odd time signature, thus, the listener can hear traditional scales and harmonies all over the album. It is a perfect mix of old and new, east and west, which by the way has been one of the EYOT’s signatures from the moment they arrived on the scene in 2008.

The band has developed its style and added new sounds, i. b. keyboard chorals remembering of Deep Purples 'April'. Space, hardrock and jazz elements lead to the typical Space Debris feeling. Each song tells a different story and seems to have it's own colour. The cover describes the musical journey for the listener: in the room behind the door. Song after song, the listener can open the doors and drift into space together with the band.

Description/Reviews
KATRE is a Turkish band which explores the areas of post-rock / post-metal synthesized with classic eastern tunes and experiments on the sustain of the sound. However, the distinguishing aspect of their musical approach lies in the subtle integration of the eastern tunes in Post-Metal, without being overly an "oriental" band. Encounters is a concept album and focuses on the subject of existence.
By applying the ebow on electric and fretless guitars, KATRE sustains the sound, and in doing so they combine the techniques of the west and the eastern culture, in which they grew up. Inspired by the stages that span conception and birth, to growth and self-awareness, the album explores these ideas through the two chapters, Existing and Existence.

Description/Reviews
Lost In The Ghost Light is a concept album revolving around the onstage and backstage reflections of a fictional ‘classic’ Rock musician in the twilight of his career. Ranging from the hypnotic opener Worlds Of Yesterday to the wistful climax of Distant Summers, via the thrilling rage of Kill The Pain That’s Killing You and the orchestral expanse of You’ll Be The Silence, the album features some stunning solos and harmonically rich compositions that represent Bowness’s most musically ambitious work to date.

Well-structured songs, emotional arrangments, versatile vocals and powerful riffs with an underlying technical proficiency are what make Kadinja an impressive group. Ascendancy is a near-flawless djent record, and has potential to already be one of the best progressive metalcore releases of 2017.

Description/Reviews
EXQUIRLA is the result of the union between two musical identities that are considered to be as contradictory as they are complementary: the magic and intensity of TOUNDRA, one of the most relevant instrumental rock bands in Europe at the moment and Niño de Elche, the main important emerging Flamenco artist in Spain on the other. The outcome is “Para Quienes Aún Viven” (= “For Those Still Alive”), an album that lyrically travels through poems that reflect upon the most intense elements within human nature, and that combines amazing musical intensity with breath-taking emotions through amalgamating the essence of TOUNDRA’s sound, which is mainly influenced by Mogwai, Pelican, Isis, Russian Circles, with the passion of flamenco.

Description/Reviews
Within the span of a single track, AAA can shift from folk to thrash and power metal, carnival music, and dissonant fusion. While even the most inept avant-metal band can go for this wildly varied approach, it takes a great band like Art Against Agony to do it this smoothly. The astounding variety may be evident while listening, but it doesn’t feel forced at all. Stark shifts in style and tone are abundant throughout The Forgotten Story, but at no cost to the musical momentum.
