Description/Reviews
The self-titled debut album from mind-melting metallic jazz trio Brain Tentacles is a journey in improvised and structured experimental sound from three venerable scene veterans. Brain Tentacles sees the threepiece weaving their way through twisted, seizure-inducing compositions that call to mind the insanity of John Zorn's storied project Naked City and Mike Patton's most erratic experiments. Brain Tentacles are masters of tension: the album moves unpredictably from mathy chaos to ponderous, juddering grooves that warp time in their wake, darting from one extreme to the other via insane rhythms and truly progressive, expansive songwriting. Occasional vocals (including a guest appearance from Oxbow's Eugene Robinson) lend an even sharper edge to the album, which is sure to blow away fans of instrumental and vocal-driven music alike.

Description/Review
Incredibly, the new (and possibly final) offering from Van der Graaf Generator is the best thing they've done since their reformation. In a career that has origins dating back almost fifty years, this album feels like the culmination of their noble journey, as if this was meant to be the closer. As such, Do Not Disturb sometimes recalls past glories yet sounds new, groundbreaking, and unlike anything else they've done.

The music on Marbin’s sixth album, Goatman and the House of the Dead, evokes imagery so vivid it’s easy to imagine this album being a soundtrack to a movie; perhaps a futuristic western. Each one of the nine new compositions tells a story with twists and turns and gives us a glimpse inside the band’s collective mind.

Description/Reviews
The darker tone of the album is a reflection of our moods and feelings going through a particular time in our lives.
While “In Hoc Signo” was a tribute to '70s Italian Progressive Music and highlighted every single instrument expressiveness to communicate feelings, in this album the band endorsed a new way of composing.
Every song shapes up with intros, crescendos and diminuendos in dynamic and revolves around main themes combined to every specific moment of the composition.
While maintaining a jazz approach into writing harmonies musicians acquired a big structured rock sound which lead them to introduce English as the singing language. In some way Italian seemed too melodic for the music they were writing.

Through a profound mix of emotions and music styles, Rock, Prog, and song format Fluido Rosa have tried to dig into the human soul and past the confines of rational understanding. The stylistic influences come from the diverse tastes and experiences of the band members. The most evident of which, is of course Pink Floyd in virtue of the fact they have played (Tribute Band) this mythical bands music for over twenty years.

Description/Reviews
The debut album from Dutch band Synergy Protocol is certainly not an album comprised of disposable, mindless tracks. No, this is heavy, symphonic progressive rock with all the Gothic and Classical influences that this brings with it. ‘Odd To Get Even‘ is a collection of hard edged songs that sound like they are being played by a band with plenty of experience under their collective belts.

Colin Marston (Gorguts) - bass

Description/Reviews
“Internal_Eternal” opens with a classic King Crimson guitar line, hypnotizing us for a full minute before the band really kicks in with some jazzy improv. One can hear the post-metal similarity to Russian Circles by the midpoint here, with a less technical, more flowing variation on the guitar line, backed by a conventional chord progression and relatively sparse drum fills. I say relatively because Jeff Eber is a monster on the drums, and can make the listener dizzy with his fills.

7. All My Friends Are Brown (2:59)
8. Overworld Map (1:44)
9. Mammoth (4:02)

Total time 29:53

Line-up
Jorge Arana - Guitar, Keys
Jason Nash - Bass
Josh Enyart - Drums

Description/Reviews
Mammoth is a sophisticated blend of sounds and structures that challenges expectations, pushing the art rock genre into the world of progressive music with jazz fusion and math rock elements. Building on previous albums Mapache and Oso‘s use of playful genuine interaction in the patterned riffs and rhythms, Mammoth ups the ante by incorporating a tense and dark mood across the entire album. This album is aggressive, this album is frantic, this album is a true “bruiser”. “Speak, Beast” sets the tone, casting a menacing shadow of distorted lead guitar over brooding keyboard pads and drums that sound more tribal than belonging in a rock band. With Mammoth, the listener gets the feel that they are in an epoch not their own – they are in a world of gnashing tusks, embattlement, and ultimately survival.

Description/Reviews
Throughout, there is an undoubtable jazzy and fusion hue as evidenced on the engaging ‘Labyrinth’ with its shifting time signatures and jazzy organ fills whilst ‘White Mirror’ could even be Lee Ritenour in his late-seventies commercial heyday.
‘Familiar Surroundings’ is a good example of the band’s output.  The proggy passages could be Spock’s Beard but always grounded in the jazzy groove.
If Katatonia is now characterised by  Jonas Renkse’s broody vocals adding a distinctive air of melancholia to the proceedings, Bastian Berchold’s  jazzy vocals permeate ‘Second Relation’ and leave an indelible mark.

Description/Reviews
Colorado’s Source are one of those bands who just couldn’t hold out for the new Tool album and took it upon themselves to make it, like so many other acts are doing these days. The difference is, I think they’ve actually done it. Without a doubt, fans of Tool, Karnivool, Soen, Chevelle, The Reticent and so many more will absolutely love what’s been done here.

Description/Reviews
Marillion has certainly not mellowed with age; the album artwork shows the acronym ‘FEAR’ embossed on a gold ingot, and the songs themselves bear the hallmark of true quality.
Whilst the album title itself is certainly provocative, it’s not meant to be offensive. The title itself features as a line in the track ‘New Kings’ and is delivered as a plaintive falsetto. ‘FEAR’ sees the band taking on the big themes but they do not see it as their place to preach to people. ‘New Kings’ looks at the ravening beast that modern capitalism seems to have evolved into, ‘El Dorado’ examines the notions of political entitlement and the modern challenges for the UK, ‘The Leavers’ examines the impact of a transient life on the road for those constantly waving goodbye.

Description/Reviews
In true Ouroborean style, "Fires Within Fires" gives due to its predecessors while progressing forward into the unfamiliar and formidable. Striking the band's signature balance between light and dark, beauty and repulsion, dense sonic heaviness and reflective space. "Fires Within Fires" is succinct, raw and deeply soulful, an all-encompassing reminder to all that transfiguration in sound remains their most commanding and inimitable strength.

The album is a roaring, soaring, never-boring, infuriating, wild and often whacky smorgasbord of a record – equal parts Prog, Psychedelic, Rock, Metal, Funk, Lounge, Shred, and a number of other styles that have yet to be coined with a term. Sometimes weird, often crazy, yet always compelling and dosed with fiery passion and high levels of musicianship, Offworld takes the listener on a trip through Space Opera’s most bizarre and dangerous reaches.
