Description/Reviews:
Where Gods Fear To Speak is a multi-faceted entry into Oceans Of Slumber’s burgeoning legacy. Many of the melodic and textural elements that made Starlight & Ash such a revelation are still present, but scabrous brutality and complex, cultured arrangements are back with a vengeance. With Cammie’s astonishing vocal blend of vulnerability and abominable power, these songs are the best possible showcase for a band on an unerring mission to win the world over.
A colossus in both conception and execution, Where Gods Fear To Speak eschews the usual modern metal sounds in favor of an overwhelming, wall-of-sound production. As songs like the thunderous title track and the grim and sprawling "Don’t Come Back From Hell Empty Handed" cast their meandering, malevolent spells, every instrument leaps out with laser-like clarity, and the vast, emotional heft underpinning Dobber and Cammie’s lyrics is brought rivetingly to the fore. Meanwhile, standout gems like "The Given Dream" and "Poem of Ecstasy" showcase Oceans Of Slumber’s still-evolving core sound, with soaring melodies and jaw-dropping dynamics that casually blur the boundary between the accessible and the avant-garde, while basking in the brooding glow of Cammie’s unique voice. Produced in collaboration with esteemed studio guru Joel Hamilton at Audovision Studios in Bogota, it emerges as a self-evident labor of love for all of those involved.
From the doom-laden opening chords of "Where  Gods Fear To Speak" – released as the album’s first preview single, and revealing Cammie’s feral death growls for the first time – to the dying, desolate embers of grand finale "Impermanence Of Fate", the new Oceans Of Slumber album is simply the most immersive and fascinating piece of work the band have made. As added intrigue, guest stars Mikael Stanne of Swedish melo-death legends Dark Tranquillity, and Moonspell’s iconic frontman Fernando Ribeiro lend their vocal talents to "Run From The Light" and "Prayer" respectively. Steeped in the oppressive atmospheres of doom, death and gothic metal, but rendered using a spinning kaleidoscope of progressive musical shades, Where The Gods Fear To Speak idly defies categorization, while strenuously redefining the artistic formula that Oceans Of Slumber have spent so many years refining. Meanwhile, these songs paint such vivid pictures that it comes as little surprise that Where Gods Fear to Speak is a certified concept work, with a cinematic streak a mile wide.

Line-up

Erkki Virta -Drums
Timo Vainio - Keyboards
Marko Välimäki - Guitar
Janne Telen - Bass

Description/Reviews
There’s a jaw-dropping moment about mid way through second song Closely Guarded Distance, where the band ease the listener gently out of the sturm und drang of it’s on-the-surface workaday Euro metal grind and deposits them in what appears to be a Marillion outtake from around 1983’s Script For A Jester’s Tear; It’s an impressive piece of sleight of hand, and, if you’re a fan of Fish and company from way back then you’ll feel a seismic shiver run up and down your spine with the sheer delight and surprise at what you’re witnessing. That the song then rebuilds itself into a crashing finale that modern day Paradise Lost would be proud of reinforces the feeling that Sinisthra can do just about anything they like within the broad church that is prog rock/metal and pull it off.

Description/Reviews
...now on Sables, they took whatever metal influence their first two records had and threw it out the window.
Instead, Sables fees like it takes a blend of the dark side of '80s pop, with a lot of post-punk, new wave, and goth rock influence (think The Cure, New Order, and The Chameleons) and putting it through a more modern experimental prog rock lens.

Description/Reviews
“Prog Goth” is applicable here — the album’s opening cut, “The Wound” is a supremely daunting and/or risky and/or polarizing 19 minutes in length. That’s about five Katatonia songs in one. Nevertheless, it’s indicative of how The Eternal likes to operate — their songs are spread out like a parachute on a field, lots of ruffles (i.e. riffs), lumps (different type of vocals) and girth (space lent for atmosphere).

Description/Reviews
Self-proclaimed Gothic Rock and Metal, their style oscillates between light Doom, Avantgarde and – for sure – Progressive Rock and Metal. Indeed, their tune boasts quite a few traits of gothically tainted Evanescence, but eternally reminds me of the mature productions of Moon Haven and their ilk. ...
Compared to the band’s 2014 firstling Inner Tales, Lenore S. Fingers lost a lot of their doom this time around. And in its wake you will detect a subdued, yet strangely nonambiguous melancholy that still remains. All this settles into a distinct change in sound, which sends this album on a slightly different course than its predecessor. All Things Lost on Earth gets you the ambient acoustics of many folk outlets, thoughtful lyrics in an Avantgarde setting, just to disintegrate into the meaty beat true metal fans crave. In short, Lenore S. Fingers presents a very complex amalgam of styles. A much heavier yet juicily alluring set of earthy tones that you will have difficulty to put down.

Description/Reviews
As one of the first Finish Progressive/Melodic Black Metal bands in the 90’s, their sound has truly evolved into a magical combination of Atmospheric/Progressive/Gothic/Dark Metal elements. Featuring over 65 minutes of music, the seven tracks presented in “Our Voices Shall Remain” will transport the listener to very emotional melodic realms.
Slowly building up with the hypnotic atmosphere of “Mesmerized”, the band creates a very subtle dreamy vibe thanks to the distant guitars and bass guitar line. The band’s earlier Black Metal days are still infused in the music, as songs like “We Used to Speak in Colours” start off quite heavily and slowly mellow into the album’s groove. Only using clean vocals, Henri Koivula, manages to sound a bit like Jukka Vuorinen from Decoryah, adding an extra layer of emotions to the music, tracks like “Lifelines” are a perfect example of this.

Description/Reviews
The inability to pin down the Dead Register sound is almost as enjoyable as the music itself and the expansive web of flavours making it up. The Atlanta trio weave a tapestry which seems simultaneously made up of essences from gothic and death rock, post punk and dark pop, doom and post rock and more. As shown by debut album Fiber, the richness of those textures is a genre crossing emprise of craft and imagination. Yet there is something easily accessible to its busy body of imagination igniting invention and atmospheric drama too, an almost familiar presence which still defies recognition. The result of it all is a release which has a uniqueness few can emulate and a fascination which simply seduces ears and emotions.

Description/Reviews
Haunter Of The Dark opens with the characteristic Space Mirrors mixture of Space Rock and Gothic influences, as bubbling alien synths mix with dark Mellotron orchestration, melodic flute and vocal narration, before launching into a chunky rocking Metal tale of “cosmic evil”. The steady rocking Metal assault continues on Celephais. Sparky Simmons’ guitar is a commanding force, cranking out chunky chords and killer ripping solos as Martyr sing-speaks in his trademark vocal style. There are some tasty classic Prog keyboard fills too.

Description/Reviews
"Shockwaves" is the debut, idealistic concept-album by Australia's Progressive rock band Triangle. This is an epic tale of a man who lived on the fringe of his community, an alchemist. In a state of permanent fear and hiding, he recounts his ordeals in the most philosophical and tragic manner. He reveals secret truths that are still hidden from us by today's establishment. The alchemist's story and his observations are a warning not to blindly accept the consensus reality provided to us all at birth.

Description/Reviews
Legend's Ghost is a concept album project by Canadian/American composer/vocalist Cherelle-Renée Childs. Cherelle came up with the idea for Legend's Ghost while singing with the progressive/symphonic metal band Prog-nosys. She was fascinated by the concept albums her bandmates showed her, but was disappointed that few of them had strong female characters. The desire to create a concept album with a central female character, as well as her fascination with the idea of combining classical, metal, and rock elements in the same album led her to develop the storyline for the first Legend's Ghost album. Gatekeepers is a gothic symphonic metal concept album that deals with the question of how and why we create art. Characters' romantic and sexual experiences are used as metaphors for the creative process. It was recorded with guest artists from three different continents and with various musical backgrounds, with each artist adding their unique perspective to the interpretations of their respective roles.

Sarah Lim: pipe organ, electronics

Description/Reviews
Where Miles Brown’s theremin would often act as a detached voice singing a melody on previous albums, this time around it feels almost operatic. It’s sound haunting like a ghost within the walls of some long forgotten castle. The pipe organ, while a heavy hitter in the overall sound of the record, never feels overused or pushed up in the mix. It definitely acts as the foundation of the record. It gives the band a solid starting point to build these great songs. Movement One’s “Pavor Nocturnus”, while not having any sort of guitar, comes on like a doom metal heavy hitter with the pipe organ filling every nook and cranny with gothic massiveness. With the synth stabs and Brown’s theremin playing overhead, and some great drumming to keep the track moving, it’s a great way to introduce the album. “Megafauna” is as progressive as it is macabre. It’s as if Goblin came from space and not some crumbling estate in the Italian countryside to create music. It sounds like it should be the theme of Phantom of the Opera: A Space Opera. There’s a great mix of intense and subtle, with “Kuceli Woke Up In The Graveyard” ending the side on a more quieter note.

Description/Reviews
The band’s debut album is undoubtfully inspired by its creator’s quest for enlightenment and meaning. “Nebulae” is a conceptual vision over life and death, seen in the form of a star’s life-cycle. The record is presented with eleven tracks divided into four chapters, from birth to extinction, creating intense emotional passages through each life stage.
“Nebulae” delivers a strong and dark but yet hopeful atmospheric sound, sometimes almost resembling a movie soundtrack. It combines all their progressive rock influences, including a cover for King Crimson’s “I talk to the wind” and ELP’s “The Sage“, with more contemporary alternative sounds, ranging from the exploding power of “The Prophet” and the ultra heavy guitars on “Watcher of the Light“, to smooth and peaceful sounds like “Deeper” or “Wings of Eternity“, with this last one adding a baroque feel.

Description/Reviews
"Herons" is movin' to the same symphonic/Gothic metal paths as their debut but with a strictly more heavier approach this time. Lisy Stefanoni's vocal lines are once again the band's biggest weapon and the guitar parts are another impressive thing. Heavy riffs with a some really impressive solos, great arrangements and a tight musicianship. Take for example "Drops Of Amber" and you'll understand what I'm talking about. This is a perfect sample of EVENOIRE's music. Heavy, poetic with a cinematographic vibe, beautiful melodies and superb performances. When we are talking about pure atmospheric symphonic metal, then "Love Enslaves" is the absolute highlight!! "Tears Of Medusa" is yet another big moment from the new album; a more straight forward rocker that features amazing and powerful performances, an inspired guitar work and some solid arrangements. "Devil's Signs" has an updated, modern metal vibe while in "Wild Females" the Gothic/ethnic elements are in front row in this excellent tune.
