Description/Reviews
This new release by Eclectic Maybe Band has a great vibe and atmosphere to it. A group of highly skilled and compatible players came together in the studio under Guys’s direction and made some improvisations. Although improvised the outcome is stylistically varied. Some tracks make you think of electric Miles filtered via zeuhl, while others are freer and open ended. Really flexible and great sounding bass and drums provide an ever shifting backdrop. The guitar is angular, surprising, expressive, a real stand out performance. Flute is the main horn at the forefront, blown by the wind eerily back and forth over the tracks, with the saxes digging in occasionally. Very original use of keys here too, especially when a rather icy grand piano cuts in. These initial improvisations have been carefully restructured in post production by Guy to produce a result very much in keeping with the Discus Music spirit.

Description/Reviews
Space rockers Escaper, who perfectly blend funk, rock, jazz and fusion, today released their second album Edge Detection on Ropeadope Records. ... The opening track “Secret Weapon” is indeed that – with a slowly accelerating build infused with saxophone, the song gets grittier and nastier, and just when you think it’s fading out, Escaper storms back giving a Flying Frog Brigade level of intensity to the track. Description/Reviews
Undoubtedly a highlight, “All Hands” is a progressive folk-rock piece filled with fabulous slide guitar and epic acoustic power chords. Can you imagine Metallica playing a sort of mystical acoustic concert? There you are! Then, you can add the to-die-for vocalizations by Shyu, properly backed by saxophone, and to finalize, a neo-folk dissertation by Cline, who genially brings a dash of flamenco into play.

Description/Reviews
The musical style is progressive metal, but there is so much more going on here.  While the almighty riff is present and very well composed, the album is not just a collection of riffs thrown together.  No, “The Room” is a cinematic journey of emotional gravity and grand vision, and it could almost be called just as much “classical” as it can be called “metal”.  The album includes huge orchestrations that might even dwarf the heavy guitars in their weight, and these orchestrations are prevalent in every single song.

Description/Reviews
The overriding feel is one of classically influenced Progressive Rock that may remind you of Keith Emerson’s work. The album features a number of high-profile guests ... With that line-up Gleb has composed thirteen tunes that each take on a different musical approach, some more rock flavoured, some more symphonic, some even a little jazzy but they’re all linked by his piano performance. It’s his instrument of choice and he owns it proudly. The album has a rather soft and subdued feel and yet that kind of disguises the times where the music becomes more dramatic and loud. Prog fans of bands with a strong Classical influence like Trace, New Trolls, After Crying, Emerson, Lake & Palmer or even some of Keith Emerson’s solo material and those who simply love the sound of the piano with find much to appreciate and enjoy on Gleb Kolyadin’s first solo album.

Jason ‘PRKR’ Sherman (Torrential Downpour) - Vocals, Keys, Noise
   With
Jason Volpe - Piano (4)
John Carbone (Moon Tooth) - Vocals (7)

Description/Reviews
The first half of the album is part hardcore, part grindcore; laced into these songs are sporadic jazz-like outbursts. These interruptions, when supported by growling and shrieking, are overbearing and could easily be dismissed as noise.
However, everything changes for the second half of the album. "A Summertime Song" marks the reconciliation between the band and its post-prog-metal foundations, with narratives written in heavy riffs, awash in distortion, leading the listener through the rest of the album. This inherent dichotomy, between the raw experimentation of its first half and the familiar foundations of the second, will no doubt result in split perceptions for even the most dedicated fans. There are plenty out there who will think this is a heavy avant-garde album, while others will pick and choose their favourite songs and barely play the rest. (exclaim.ca)
