... progressive rock is the style explored on this production. It is quite the varied album too, but the main foundation throughout appears to be an atmospheric laden, careful variety of the style that is easy to listen to and with a generally compelling mood and atmosphere. The band will occasionally dip into more straight forward art pop territories, but perhaps more interesting is that a heavier aspect of progressive rock bordering progressive metal will appear from time to time as well. A production for those who have a soft spot for the more compelling varieties of progressive rock with some distinct pop music sensibilities, and who don't mind occasional bursts of arrangements with a bit more bite to them. Beginning with the instrumental track ‘Youth’, interestingly it starts off with a mechanical winding sound followed by a melancholy music box, this then progresses into a mass of bells, evoking a feeling of arrival – we have arrived in the world, that is #OneDark! Following immediately on, is the track ‘Overcome’. This is a high energy track, which really energises the listener. The opening lyric “Do you remember when we didn’t care”, taking us back to a place when we were all carefree.

 As markers go, the 16 minute title track, split into four parts is just a bit special. In fact, there’s a very real possibility that it might be a just about the best first song on a debut album since “Welcome To The Jungle” in 1987, echoes of the greats from Marillion to Porcupine Tree, Dream Theater and Genesis are all here, but the is something of the melodic rock about this too and the line “I never was the man I used to be” is one of the most thought provoking in years.

Pat also knows how to write songs. They may come with a definite pop and indie flavour, as opener Sing goes to show, and thus trick you into thinking that Pat and band are into Journey's softer tones. However as soon as the intro to Snakes makes itself known, the music show that it can weave intricate progressive and sometimes metallic structures or just spread a magical ambient feel. It is all here on this debut album.
