Description/Reviews
With "THE?LIE", ssttgd are once again proving that they are among the most innovative and creative bands in the genre - and in George Andrade, the band was able to convince and win over a lyricist for the concept, who developed a compelling lyricbook, with stirring and disturbing lyrics, out of Thoralf Koss' story. To match the intriguing storyline, some outstanding members of the progrock scene were ensembled to take on the roles of the characters and to perform the instrumental parts.

Andrés Marino - piano, keyboards and electronics
Camilo Ángeles - flutes
Mariano Cepeda - electric guitar
Agustín Zuanigh - trumpet

Description/Reviews
Their sound explorations have led them to expand the languages of jazz, and incorporate elements of experimental rock, contemporary music and free improvisation. "Geometría del vínculo" [Geometry of the bond], Sales de Baño’s third album, can be understood as an avant-garde jazz album which is also connected with the spirit of Rock in Opposition. The ostinati converse with free forms, in sequences that can lead to attacks of noisy abstraction, which spring from both rock and free jazz, then go back and build complex sonic architectures where the guitar and the trumpet are featured as solo instruments.

Description/Reviews
MARATON pushes the boundaries between pop music and progressive rock, mixing machine like drums and roaring bass groundwork with shimmering guitars, ethereal keys and sacral vocal performance. The band has sought to create a style of music which combines the rhythmic heaviness from bands such as Mars Volta with the pop aesthetics of Muse.

Line-up
Yoann Vermeulen - drums, samples
Maxime Ingrand - guitar, synth
Jean Christophe Condette - bass, synth
Dimitri Denat - guitar

Description/Reviews
Persona sees LOST IN KIEV further expand their own idiosyncratic take on cinematic, contemporary post-rock. "The main challenge with this record was how to write more direct and shorter post rock tracks with the same intensity as our previous, longer compositions," guitarist Maxime Ingrand explains, "and also finding the right balance between traditional post rock, the addition of synths and machines, and the texts for the film." LOST IN KIEV have always been one of the few truly suggestive post rock bands: they do lack a vocalist, and yet their music is prosaic, cinematic, and deeply saturated with anecdotes, philosophical reflections and stories.

Description/Reviews
Thankfully more and more of the new "progressive metal bands" are looking back into the history of the genre to find inspiration. This newish band from Puerto Rico is one such example. There is a certain djenty and post-rocky vibe to some of their rhythms and guitar playing but it is mixed with that melodic sense of songwriting that prioritises memorable hooks and choruses.

Line-up
Mahdi Khema - lead vocals
Tarak ben Sassi - guitars
Yessine Belghith - bass
Aymen Ben Hamed – drums
    With
Timo Somers – guitar

Description/Reviews
...the lead vocals sound powerful and dramatic, slightly abrasive but with a strong sense of melody. The music itself, in fact, is awash with powerful melodies and impressive guitar harmonies. The bridge mid-way through the catchy ‘The Devil’s Dolls’ is a great example of how intense the guitars can get. Opening track ‘Whispers From The Wicked’ possesses a darkly epic feel that vaguely reminds me of Evergrey. The title-track contains melodies that hint at the band’s national heritage. On the other hand ‘The Rebirth’ reminded me of Judas Priest’s ‘Beyond The Realms of Death’. Admittedly all these references belittle the songs because in truth there’s more to them than that.

Description/Reviews
The music on Iridescent, in its heavier sections, nods in the direction of Riverside or Porcupine Tree, and in its moments of emotional song-based prog, towards recent Anathema and a less dramatic Von Hertzen Brothers. But this is a just a guide to the kind of band they are, as it is truly the case that Isbjörg’s Iridescent has its own identity, as it explores their song-based, piano led, progressive rock.

Description/Reviews
...now on Sables, they took whatever metal influence their first two records had and threw it out the window.
Instead, Sables fees like it takes a blend of the dark side of '80s pop, with a lot of post-punk, new wave, and goth rock influence (think The Cure, New Order, and The Chameleons) and putting it through a more modern experimental prog rock lens.

Description/Reviews
The Invisible Presence is a project based around the unconventional and groundbreaking writings of Science Fiction writer Philip K. Dick. As such, the band strive to embody these characteristics in the music by not just drawing on these stories for song themes, but by actually creating an atmosphere and experience that aims to parallel these classic tales. Therefore, the debut album “Between the Truth and What We See” takes dystopian, futuristic visions and puts them to music with a Modern Progressive Rock sound. With project members scattered across the globe and on all walks of life, the band strive to employ their diverse perspectives and talents on these stories and relate them to an increasingly “futurized” 21st century.

Jake Rogers: vocals (6)
Skip vonKuske: cello (1, 4, 7)

Description/Reviews
Playing a potent and varied form of symphonic prog/power metal, Tanagra have packed Meridiem to the gills with ideas, and it is without a doubt over-indulgent. But for the most part I mean this in the best way possible. Opening with the eleven and a half minute title track was a bold choice and clearly sets the tone for the listener. Filled with keys, strings, classical guitar, and solos, weaving through theme after theme, and even throwing a short black metal-esque instrumental passage in for good measure, the track demands that you immediately accept that more is more or leave the Hall. Perhaps the most interesting aspect of the track—and the album in general—is that the vocals take the opposite approach. Singer Tom Socia uses middle and lower ranges (think Falconer‘s Mathias Blad and in some spots David Gold) in a very restrained performance, and it works wonderfully, allowing the excess of the music to succeed without throwing the typical squeezed balls power vocals into the mix.

Line-up
Andrés Bonilla: synthesizers.
Joel Fernández: synthesizers.
Robert Mata: guitars, synth guitar
Diego Mejía: guitars, synthesizers.
Marco Rodríguez: drums

Description/Reviews
Erth’s music is difficult to describe in all its lush glory.  It is certainly experimental, but I’m not so sure “rock” captures the overall tone.  It has jazz fusion moments, but some sections rely more on electronica.  Most importantly, the band uses all three of those genres in a flowing, groovy fashion that feels seamless and purposeful.  So, while you will hear guitar work with the deliberation of Plini, you will also hear colorful guitar synth, funk, jazzy time signatures, and completely indescribable moments that all come together into one progressive and highly successfully package.

Alon Shulman - Bass (6, 10)
Yoav Weinberg  - Drums
Shachar Bieber - Harsh Vocals (10)

Description/Reviews
It's a slow building record with Leah's vocals at the forefront, Reborn is primarily vocals while Touched layered acoustics, ivory tinikling and some stirring cello occasionally revealing the metal riffs but they really get to shine on Frozen Sun which sees the band and Leah at their bombastic best their theatrical music putting me in mind of Magenta but with a dramatic edge of bands such as Queen and even early Genesis.
