To a Debt that was Never Ours is almost seventy-minutes of music in just six tracks which includes the epic length “Ethereal Spirit” [18:14]. The music contains all the familiar elements of double kick-drum, searing guitars along-side heavy crunchy chords and haunting, spooky keyboard lines. All of this is bundled up in mostly fast-paced compositions that speed through various different song segments best exemplified in “Angel of Death” [8:41] which starts fast and doesn’t seem to let up. Elsewhere, the keyboards and melancholic vocals do tend to provide a somewhat more Gothic metal tone to the proceedings as well. In the end not everything is either always fast or heavy. A song like “Asteri” [12:12] starts off with more of a grand, march tempo building to a kind anthemic style. Omega Xentauri are in no ways a “one-trick” pony, they have some interesting ideas up their musical sleeves. The guitar lead lines tend to dominate these tunes and it can get a bit samey at times spreading a similar feel over many of the passages or even from song to song. In some ways this is a band still looking to define their sound and musical approach.Read the full review by Jerry Lucky
