Description/Review
The first half of the album called ´Out´ deals with all the suffering, with the topic of cancer and death. Fred Lessing wrote it before and shortly after the death of his wife. ´Fish Dissected´ reveals echoes of KING CRIMSON and GENTLE GIANT. In ´Where It Hurts Most´ the narrative structure alternates with clutching violin sounds. ´Shipwreck´ has a slight DIRE STRAITS-flair, ´Whalebone‘ is a dark songwriter-song.
The second half of the album (called ´In‘) leads Lessing back into his life, back into an entirely new life, without forgetting his old one. ´The River´ leads the protagonists back into the fast-moving time. With harmonica, increasingly emerging happiness in singing and Brian May-Memorial-Solo (´The Single-Most Expensive Kiss In History ´) life begins 2.0. The instrumental group played formidably on (`Headlong´), the mood caught up briefly again in their dark phase, although the flute slowly trying to lift the veil (´I Abraham´). Translucent as in ´Bonne Voyage´ it will not last, because the trumpets of hysteria hit promptly (`Ghost´).

Description/Reviews
The themes of Left-To-Live, which is announced by the band as a classic concept-album, are essentially social, but are faced with a dreamlike-paradoxical approach; the band in fact asks itself: "If all mankind had only 24 hours left to live, what memories would pass in his virtual mind before final passage?" The cover, a collage of powerful images, evocative of the great human tragedies, from the Inquisition to the great genocides, from the Crusades to the Jihad, from the extermination of the American Indians to the atomic bomb, from deforestation to cyber bullying, tells us just the "flash" that humanity would have before the final act. And there are not good memories or concessions to happy events, even in the texts of the most representative songs of this album, except for some references to love, and to an ethereal sister telling of his virtual family, as if they were the only lifeline, the only slender thread of hope, before the inevitable denouement.

    With
William Shatner - vocals (5)

Description/Review
The new ten-song release begins with the hard rock groove of "Last Chance To Hear, Part 1" as all the instrumentation comes together perfectly to lift things off. The grand appeal of "Critical Mass, Part 1 & 2" showcases Craven's knack for expanding beyond the boundaries of prog-rock as the song's full orchestration takes you on a sonic adventure. The eight-minute epic "Spy In The Sky, Part 3" is helped along by the great William Shatner on vocals. Ben Craven digs in with his seventies rock influences on the quick-paced "Revenge Of Dr. Komodo," before finishing with the gentle piano-ballad "Mortal Remains." (jpsmusicblog.blogspot.com.au)

GEPH is an instrumental progressive jazz metal trio riding the very cutting edge of contemporary music. With Josh and John Tyler Kent on Chapman Stick, and Josh Merhar on drums, the three of them sound as big as a five-piece, and work to expand the modern conceptions of arranging and composing in a heavy, intense and still succinctly musical format.

Description/Reviews
With a style that mixes elements of hard rock, prog rock, and trace elements of blues, the sound on instrumentalist Jimi Sobara’s 2016 album Infinite Soul captures a sound that is as complex as it is enjoyable to listen to.  It’s definitely a more aggressive sound than I initially expected: the title of the album originally had me thinking that it would have a slow, soulful vibe, but it proceeded to smack me in the face with a powerful guitar solo from the very beginning of its first track.

Jason Pirone: Guitar, Bass, Synth
Jeff Kearney: Vocals
Tony Rossi : Drums
Jeff Frankenstein: Bass

Description/Reviews
Generally, Third Voice plays a hybrid of melodic hard rock, infused with a metal edge and some progressive nuances. Most everything about this album is driven by multi-instrumentalist Jason Pirone who wrote all the lyrics and music, produced, recorded, and mixed the album, and played guitar, bass, and synths. I'm thinking the band should have been called The Jason Pirone Project. As for his arrangements, I would not call anything here overly technical. Pirone does not try to mesmerize you outrageous tempo and time signature changes. Rather, he truly attempts to build his music upon melodic and harmonic lines and, after that, build a cohesive song.

Description/Reviews
What i think the incarnations of The Syn excel at in my humble opinion is applying a rather nice sixties beat vibe to some of their songs and this can be found amidst the fabulous pace and rhythm of Revolution Now. The jangly Rickenbacker like sound certainly enhances the vibe and along with the now legendary Moon Safari harmonies creates a huge colourful aural picture. Great Organ sound too reminding me very much of the early Al Stewart albums. Continuing with this retro feel replete with glassy sounding guitar et al is This World Of Ours fully showcasing the Moon Safari’s adept harmonies once again. Moving along nicely to another very powerful message is Something That I Said putting a serious slant on the proceedings. A Bob Marley strength protest if ever i heard one without the Reggae overtones. A great homage to Yes going on here in no small part To Simon Arkesson’s retro keyboard sounds and Jon Anderson backing vocals.

Description/Reviews
There would seem to be something playful, and possibly deceptive, about the title of Stockholm prog psychedelic outfit Our Solar System’s second album, In Time. It’s a phrase that, whether in a musical or even an appropriately astrological sense, indicates confines and regular rotations, even the absence of the abnormal. Yet “abnormal” could be the axis around which all planets in the Our Solar System galaxy revolve. For an album that so effortlessly delivers trance states in sound, the effect of In Time on the listener is likely to be one of orbiting far beyond those confines and regular rotations, toward a delirious detachment from the ticking trap of time.
In Time is essentially the work of thirty hands, creating two side-length tracks and forty-four minutes of sonic energy that serves as a vehicle to reach peak experience, alternately arriving and departing from control and abandon. Our Solar System seem interested in building bridges between worlds, and not just the already quite connected worlds of jazz, progressive rock and psychedelia – labels that represent the previously mentioned confines and regular rotations to which In Time pays little heed.
B-side “At the Edge of Time" is the album’s cosmic co-conspirator, slightly longer, slightly odder, and slightly more seductive than the A-side "In the Beginning of Time", in part given the mantra-like vocals that provide calm contrast to the musical meteor shower that’s crashing around them. This is the sound of Our Solar System at their astrological apex – exploratory, transcendent and joyous.
Within the confines of time, it’s appropriate to refer to In Time as an interstellar jazz-rock album, and an extraordinary one at that. Despite it’s title, you may come to believe that the true home of “In Time” is a place outside time’s confines, floating in space, surrounded by infinite stars and sounds, projecting an indefinable sound that’s boundless and beautiful.( revoltoftheapes.com)

Description/Reviews
This band of Britons have crafted an album which successfully blends dark atmosphere, soaring vocals, ponderous builds, and an epic feel that compels a listener forward.
“The Flight of the Deviants” kicks Conduit off with a long intro and a bass-driven riff courtesy of the Blue Öyster Cult (+ Satan). Just when I’d written “Ghostcore” in the genre field on our promo sheet, however, vocalist Anthony “Trim” Trimming hit the chorus. Immediately differentiating King Goat‘s sound, Trim’s upper range and vocal tone is like a baritone version of Messiah Marcolin. I promptly wrote “Candlemasscore” in the genre field instead, and claimed the album to review. While King Goat obviously has differentiated themselves mightily from the Swedish kings of doom metal, the comparison is apt. Trim is a dominant force on Conduit, delivering a vocal performance that is dynamic and impressive. His approach is varied; growling, whispering, and raspy cleans define the different tracks. But while “Feral King” would stand alone because of a groovy intro, it wouldn’t be as good without the power of Trim’s performance. “Revenants” delivers awesome riffs, but it’s the deft touch with which Trim delivers the melodies—reminiscent of A Perfect Circle—that makes it stand out. Like so many of the best vocal performances, the melodies on Conduit are catchy, but never linear. Add in throat singing (whut!?) and Trim’s dexterous navigation of the band’s dynamic songwriting, and his performance is a vocal tour de force.

Description/Reviews
Your sense of what is music gets assaulted starting with “Loon-Y Tunes,” which, amid all the birdcalls, sounds like Japanese-influenced jazz perfectly played except that it’s off pitch. Which, of course, is the point. It gets even wiggier with the guitar/microtonal keyboard patterns played on “Dance of the UiraPuru,” and the violin and suona afterwards take turns leading this strange brew. For the solemn “Gagaku Chord Candy,” Fuze and Guo play out the mystic harmony together amid a formal, sacred air appropriate for the classical Japanese Imperial music. J Dilla’s hat tip comes on “Flam,” with that flammed beat is turned on and off like someone playing with the switch. Set to the small interval notes, it’s like funk from outer space. All of these ideas and more are summed up on “Waldstimmen,” and then breaks down into micro-toned free jazz, as if free jazz wasn’t offbeat enough.

Description/Reviews
The new album Spellbound deals with a complex web of topics like love, passion, pain, memory, eternity and the quest of finding oneself. The album’s lyrics form a fictitious journal of memories that have left their mark on life and come alive again. The listeners may recognize themselves in this journal and can join a journey through the human soul - in spite (or because?) of a chain of borderline experiences and a number of tragic elements with a decidedly optimistic message.
Spellbound is a mixture of biography, fiction and reality - never forgotten episodes, immortalized by memory, adding up to hope and the affirmation of life.

Description/Reviews
What makes this album great is that it holds together as a piece. It’s an album, meant to be listened to in its entirety, in the track order selected by the band. It’s not a concept, beyond being a cohesive statement, but a fully intentional expression of where the band is at in 2015. It is a modern rock record, dutifully mixing together influences from everything that came before it, but not relying on nostalgia or kitsch, like so many other bands of their very broad soundscape do. How does one hash tag Tales? #psych-post-rock-drone-horrorfilm-ambient-shoegaze-noise-doom-folk-monastic-core…? I mean…Help!
The Flow In Between opens with “Tidal Wave” – an over 9 minute opus with a drone opening – there is so much going on here with nods to eastern music styles, monastic chanting, old-timey Appalachian music – it could be some kind of Bollywood horror film set in the old west – without the dancing and winking of course. Typical of Tales – the overall vocals (which are infinitely layered here) take a seat along the epic music accompanying it – sitting in a balance – yet one has to almost physically lean forward to hear what is going on. Sonically this is just what it says – a tidal wave of sound that builds and pulses, deadly and powerful.

Description/Reviews
Appropriately, given the origins of the band, the opening track of the album is an instrumental piece, In the Beginning serving as an introduction for the dramatic story of Queen of the Night, Part 1. Whilst it is not a single concept the main lyrical theme of the album is derived from books and novels, hence the title Tales from the Bookcase. Queen of the Night bookends the album, based on the tragic story of Eugenia in Arthur Conan Doyle’s Sherlock Holmes story The Adventure of the Veiled Lodger. This piece opens with a heavy rock theme pounded out by Andy Wilson’s guitar and Peter Jones’ remarkably powerful vocals. We are a long way from the pastoral, softer feel of Tiger Moth Tales’ Cocoon as Jones displays a voice that could easily front any respectable heavy rock band. However, he shows his versatility as he switches vocal tones between the softer narration into the demonic proclamations of the evil ringmaster of this sinister travelling circus. These changes in colour and tone in the piece are also deftly imagined in the equally adept ability of the band to change the direction and atmosphere in the music.
