Description/Reviews:
Despite having never played the black metal game very straight, Felix Culpa is the sound of South Carolina’s Dalla Nebbia at their ‘un-blackest’ best. Having pushed back against the stylistic parameters of traditional black metal for the better part of their still young career, with each release having more curveballs up its sleeve than the one before, Felix Culpa sees them arriving at a stylistic crossroad where black metal, progressive rock, trippy grooves and dark ambient intersect in the most jarring of ways. It’s all a bit gleefully avant-garde—seemingly a common trend among the current crop of US black metal bands—but they somehow manage to pull it off in a way I wasn’t anticipating.Read the full review by Neil Pretorius at metal-observer.com
