Description/Reviews
The record starts with “Face Of Death“ and directly makes sure that all of your expectations, hopes and probably dreams do come true. The song starts with ambient noises and modified guitars before the distorted guitars come in with heavy hitting drums. The brightness of the production directly swallows the recipient into its own atmosphere. In contrast to the slowed down tempo of the first track, the band shows a lot of fast-shaped songs, like the following track “Adrenaline,” on this 55 minute record.

Description/Reviews
Musically it is progressive rock/metal music, melodic and not overly complex, I would say that they take a rather minimalistic approach. Good variation over the tracks, not the overly long messy tracks that some progressive bands are prone to. The production is brilliant, excellent sound and depth. I find this to be a high quality production on any account, the performances are excellent – I think most notably the vocals that are very impressive and they add a great extra dimension to the album.

Total Time 44:20

Line-up
Rosalie Cunningham - Vocals, guitars
George Hudson - Guitars
Samuel Robinson - Keyboards
Justin Smith - Bass
Raphael Mura - Drums

Description/Reviews
Led by the gorgeous vocals and crunchy guitar riffs of Rosalie Cunningham, Purson weave all sorts of musical pleasures throughout Desire's Magic Theatre. The opening title track and "Dead Dodo Down" both bring forth images of not only the psychedelic San Francisco scene of the late '60s, but also the British pop of The Beatles and the early glam years of David Bowie & T-Rex, complete with swirling instrumentation and catchy, hypnotic vocals. "Electric Landlady" bursts with massive, Sabbath styled brontosaurus riffing, while heady saxophone adds a jazzy element to the intoxicating "Pedigree Chums". Silky Hammond organ & gentle piano permeate the lush, dreamy "The Sky Parade", one of the more prog based numbers here, and again another great vehicle for the majestic vocals of Cunningham. "The Window Cleaner" and "The Way It Is" are both pure '60s styled psych/pop, with quirky arrangements and charming vocal melodies that are instantly addicting, but it's not until "Mr Howard" that we see the beefier guitar riffs return, and it's only fleeting, again popping up briefly alongside some cool flute & keyboards on closer "The Bitter Suite", a very cool bluesy prog number that reminds of early Jethro Tull.

9. Infinite (8:06)

Total Time 42:20

Line-up
Alex Body - Bass guitar, lead vocals, keyboards, synth
Andy Clarke - Guitars, all backing vocals
Alex Dunbar - Drums and percussion

Description/Reviews
Just listening to the opening riff of “Truth and Illusion” is like unearthing an early 80s prog classic (think keyboards-era Rush, only British). That element is brought out in its melodies, but especially by the album’s analogue production. By keeping the instrumentation warm and collective, the vocals don’t come off as showy and the limelight is centered on the band as a whole. All three members showcase a balanced dynamic between one another, which is a crucial component not only in making a progressive record, but delivering an authentic performance. Up next is “A Thing Called Evil,” which bears a strong initial resemblance to Subdivisions, but then explores its own ground for pacing and experimentation. Both songs so far demonstrate a solid thematic focus, the first observing fickle behavior amidst trying times, and this song of once-dormant emotions being unleashed in the heat of anger. Bridging the gap between these themes is a harmonic bass foundation hitting all the sensible notes, while the guitar hooks sustain a sufficient catchiness. Again, that energy is showcased competently on “Dead Weight”.

Description/Reviews
The appropriately named first track ‘Getaway’ starts proceedings with a journey through the 80’s mainly with its sci-fi synth heavy passages, all very chilled out until suddenly interrupted in the midway point by a big funky style bass line and, is that the riff from ‘Hot Blooded’ by Foreigner?
‘Reconnect’ is the debut of full time new vocalist Petter Carlsen and is the most striking change in direction as his clean melodic style along with the straightforward quiet/loud dynamic employed by the band here has a very post-hardcore feel to it, even in the mild crescendo that closes out that showcases his impressive range. This is also showcased on the much more reflective and subdued ‘Rewind’, the main building block being his vocals and a piano line with only a minor (yet delightful) build-up in the music itself.

Description/Reviews
OPUS, the sixth Afenginn album, presents a composition built up in four movements, inspired by the form of the classical symphony. Exhibiting individual modes and characteristics, each movement is a piece in it’s own right. Thematic material, motifs and rhythmic patterns, nevertheless, connect each movement with the greater whole. OPUS is the result of a series of unforeseen circumstances, as well as the synergy and effort of many people. In a small way this mirrors how life often evolves: uncontrollable, unforeseeable, yet still somehow navigable.

Description/Reviews
With Affinity, Haken move further away from their most obvious early influences and solidify their status as one of the most fresh and dynamic bands around. With each album the band have been more collaborative in their approach, and this time ideas have been brought by every member and worked on together. Far from being confusing or incoherent, this approach has retained the core Haken sound while continuing to develop an exciting diversity of sounds and styles.
There are a couple of particularly evident shifts on this album. A greater proportion than ever before is atmospheric in style, with a notable post-rock influence that manifests explicitly in one or two songs and more subtly in other places. The album is also tonally a lot brighter than all their previous releases. That doesn’t mean it’s all chilled out and upbeat, but the shift is noticeable. There is also a greater infusion of digital and electronic sounds, and an enjoyable infusion of 80s sounds and styles. Again, these stylistic elements do not take over and the core Haken style remains, with heavy riffs and planet-sized choruses, but the changes help distinguish Affinity from everything else.

Description/ Reviews
Their new record, Crimson, is shimmering artistry. It completely blew me away the first time I heard it. I’m still in awe of it, almost viewing it as a towering musical monument expertly built by a truly gifted band. Think of it as progressive power pop. It rocks and grooves strong with sugary melodies like power pop, but there’s an erratic progressive streak here. Wobbly time signatures. Sensational textural patterns. Abrupt tonal shifts. Conflicting sonic themes. They even somehow make straightaway songs like “Until” and “Unspun” unfurl into these sprawling compositions that are somehow organic and logical. Don’t even get me started on the album closer and title track “Crimson,” — twenty minutes of the band showcasing every last bit of their talent in an epic that would make Pete Townshend blush. This band is just impressive, especially singer Mica Tenenbaum and her commanding voice. She grounds all of these lofty songs and ideas with a mercurial sound that drives the music as much as the proficent drumming. Crimson is a prog introduction for pop lovers, a pop introduction to prog lovers, and a must listen for any music fan out there. (sound-gaze.com)

Description/Reviews
With the opening song “Coalesce”, we’re treated to a nice mid-paced guitar sound that drives the short opening track, not to mention a nice sarangi effect which helps add a nice aura.  “Maze Of Mutual Apocalypse” follows with a djent formula that I wasn’t expecting compared to the start of the album.  It’s well put together but somewhat forgettable in the grand scheme of things.  “My Reality” follows with an approach similar to the previous track in delivery, but it amps up the technical aspect with a precision that was somewhat lacking previously.  There’s a well-placed use of the sarangi yet again in the background of the final minute of this track, which is used for atmosphere and not dominant over the other instruments.  “Pseudo Showcase” features a more chugging attack than the previous tracks with a nice technical pace when slowed down.  There isn’t as much of a djent influence, which is welcomed.  And at this point, I start to have my patience worn down considerably with the song “Flashback” going right back into the forgettable djent delivery that I grow wary of.  The band was starting to make some headway for me before this track started, and I was hoping there would only be fleeting glimpses of the aforementioned sub-genre as opposed to a deep homage.

Description/Reviews
The first track of the album “From Here I Can See the Horizon” features a powerful and exciting lead vocal performance from Anmarie Byrnes while the emotionally charged “Warm” spotlights a hauntingly beautiful lead vocal from Laura Meade. The energetic fury of the title track “The Witness” features Brian Coralian on drums while Greg DiMiceli is showcased on several tracks including the jazz/funk-inspired “No Remorse”.
Tom Galgano, who sings lead vocals on several tracks and who engineered and co-produced the album with Bremner notes, “Every song on this album is different and yet they are all connected by Paul’s unique guitar sound and songwriting. It’s been an absolute pleasure working on this album – in fact in many ways it’s been like working on an ‘alternate’ IZZ record.”
The last track on the album, “Last Exit Before Toll” comes in at over 20 minutes and encompasses the full range of Bremner’s musical palette.

Description/Reviews
The musical material presented on this second album came along with the first album, which means, all this songs were composed on the same period of time. So this songs were set apart for a while during the production and release of the first album, still with no lyrics, but already with some ideas settled. The three songs which make up the suíte "The Story of a King" that finished inspiring the title of the album, were already known to cover this theme.

Description/Reviews
The sixth album by Corde Oblique was conceived as a wooden palette used for mixing colors with sounds, the sounds of the colors are evoked by using lot of different musical instruments and musical styles. Almost all existing music tonalities have been used for the songs; moreover, every title refers to a different color and the graphic design is inspired to one of the most famous italian art history encyclopedias printed in the '60s.
The album includes 13 unreleased songs written and produced by the mastermind Riccardo Prencipe. Over 50 minutes of refined Progressive-Ethereal-Folk music.
