Description/Reviews
Curtis Hasselbring’s new album, Number Stations, is inspired by mysterious shortwave radio stations that seem to exist for the purpose of providing foreign agents from a variety of countries coded information.  In a similar way, Hasselbring’s music provides the musicians in this all-star ensemble information regarding their alliances, covert missions and espionage activities via composed music and improvisational stratagems. Fueled by the dual drumming of Ches Smith and Satoshi Takeishi, Hasselbring’s music is highly propulsive while at the same time maintaining elements of dark humor, ambient spaciousness and highly choreographed ensemble playing.
