Description/Reviews:
Dispensing with the horns and woodwinds that distinguished Up All Nightfrom its predecessor, Überjam Deux is a more logical follow-up to the group's 2002 self-titled Verve debut. Scofield's reunion with guitarist/sampler Avi Bortnick demonstrates, once again, the true importance—and often underestimated and undervalued skill—of an exceptional rhythm player. Scofield's relentlessly inventive, sonically expansive improvisational explorations are key to Überjam Deux's success, but so, too, is Bortnick's support, which ranges from chunky chords to snaky, muted single-note lines that almost subliminally anchor the music. Former Gov't Mule/Black Crowes bassist Andy Hess—who replaced Überjam's Jesse Murphy on Up All Night—is back, as dexterous, muscular and solid as ever, as is original drummer Adam Deitch, who handles the lion's share of Überjam Deux's twelve tracks with similar aplomb, though 28 year-old drummer Louis Cato takes over on four tracks and is equally impressive.

If you´re missing good instrumental music of the caliber of Camel´s The Snowgoose, this is the album you´re looking for. All tracks are very good and varied, but the absolute highlight for me is New Moon, a very fine track that mixes early Genesis with a wonderful Camel-like guitar that is pure joy.

In 2004 Dyble made the decision to return to the music scene and since then has released 5 albums culminating in the highly acclaimed 'Talking with Strangers' (2009). The follow-up to this, 'Flow and Change' is an intimate, confessional, lyrical, beautiful and very English recording. The album opens with "Black Dog Dreams", co-written by Hawkwind alumnus, Simon House, it even features some surprisingly heavy, but searingly lyrical lap steel guitar courtesy of Mike Mooney from Echo and the Bunnymen. It demonstrates how an 'old school' artist, whose first recordings came out over forty years ago, has adapted surprisingly well to the 21st Century modus operandii of recording which involves one clever man, a laptop, and a bunch of talented musicians scattered around the globe who may never actually meet in the flesh.

Songs for Trees is the passionate, playful and provocative debut album of Unspoken Ethos, a four-piece alternative rock band heavily influenced by jazz, progressive rock and metal.
Displaying virtuosity beyond their years, Unspoken Ethos gels into a groove that is irresistible and satisfying, with riffs and hooks that seduce. From the towering keyboard mastery of Ashton Wisener, to the aching guitar solos of Will Hansen, the band is anchored by the tight rhythms of bassist John Janigan-Mills and the fluid percussion of Morgan Zwicker. The quartet totally grok each other’s musicianship and approach; hence the band name.
Songs for Trees is a compelling plea for humans to look at what they are doing to each other and the planet, and stop destroying everything.

The journey offered by Greg, Alex, Matt and James lasts about 40 minutes spread over 5 tracks that flow into one another. The album opens up with ‘The Silent City’ that maybe is inspired by the area that worked also as a muse for the band and album names. The typical reverberating guitars of post rock songs open this beautiful track that soon develop in an absolutely amazing melody and a pursuing beat. It's a wonderful way to start the album.
A series of rather joyous crescendos are at the centre of the stage of the following track. ‘Interstellar’ is full of enjoyable soundscapes. It’s a dynamic song with builds up and drops like in a mountain climb with a breathtaking view once you reach the top.

Fresh instrumental interpretations of some of the masterpieces of Progressive rock music and some original pieces. This instrumental project was born of our friendship and the same incurable and inextinguishable love of classical and progressive rock music. Between the two genres there exists a continuum of sound – who can say where one ends and the other begins?
With this intention some of the masterpieces of progressive rock music have been chosen. These are fresh interpretations, in a way close to the performance of classical music without drums and vocals.
The core of our idea is to give a place of honour to progressive rock music on the same level as the works of the great classical composers. Progressive rock lyrics have often drawn on elements of myth and fantasy, so some new pieces inspired by the literature of JRR Tolkien
were also included.

Description/Reviews:
Fusing pop, prog and electronica into a story of abuse, betrayal and madness, 'Rise Up Forgotten, Return Destroyed' is the new album from Shineback, solo project from Simon Godfrey of Tinyfish. The album - with lyrics from Simon's writing partner in Tinyfish, Robert Ramsay - centres upon the story of Dora who undertakes a fantastic, yet disturbing journey into her own dream word where she encounters dark revelations about her past buried in memory. Also read the review by Alison Henderson at dprp.net
