Description/Reviews
Currently an octet, HANDS are an ongoing art rock experiment whose earliest incarnation - Ibis (later: Prism) - was initially brought to Frankensteinian life around the time Nixon vacated the White House, tattoos were something only sailors and carnies coveted, and bands like Yes and Jethro Tull were filling arena-sized venues.
Over the years, nineteen different musicians have taken the stage and/or spent many a late, adventurous night in the recording studio as a part of this Texas based ensemble.
What started as a group of like-minded high school friends that tended to gravitate toward the more eclectic regions of the musical universe has evolved into an original, cohesive unit that combines multiple stylings absorbed along the way with their own unique take on music ‘progressive.’
HANDS continues to garner worldwide attention with positive reviews and a loyal fan base, and as always are in the process of creating what they hope is aurally pleasing as well as intellectually challenging and relevant new work.
To that end, their new album - Caviar Bobsled is a thrill ride of masterful playing, insightful observations and innovatory sonic scavenger hunts. Five years in the making -- employing over sixty different instruments (from Warr guitar to contrabass flute) -- this latest 73 minute effort from HANDS is sure to please even those hardcore audiophiles striving for total heaviosity as well as jazzier rockers, prog poppers and classical leaning sensitives. In other words (just like the Texas weather) if you don’t like what you hear, just wait a minute or two ... for it will surely change my friend.
Caviar Bobsled -- give it a taste, but don’t forget your helmet!
