Description/Reviews:
Listing influences along the lines of Dream Theater, Queensryche, Devin Townsend and Evergrey, the band approaches a more emotive and melody focused take on the realms of the prog. The bright album art very well depicts the hopeful feeling that comes from the music, one that also seems to embody a narrative component. Dream Theater’s softer tracks such as “Another Day” or “The Bigger Picture” are as close as you’ll get to Course of Fate’s sound on this record.

Description/Reviews:
Vulkan rides the line between progressive rock and prog metal in a subgenre that Prog Archives would call “heavy prog”.  The band certainly does hit hard, but never seems to fall into the riffier side of things, and they also present other elements, such as flute, that give them a slightly more pastoral sound at times.  That said, they know their way around a heavy instrumental, and they love to insert small retro accents and wide open climaxes.

The Animal State "Genus"

Genre(s): Progressive Rock/Metal
Format: digital
Release date: May 8, 2020
Tracklist:
1. Bucephalus (11:34)
2. Talon (9:36)
3. Cerberus (9:57)
4. Howl (9:17)
5. Fawn (10:59)

Total Time 51:23

Line-up:
Col Mullins

Description/Reviews:
With a wide range of influences spanning multiple genres, from the classic Prog Rock and Psychedelic acts of the 60s and 70s to the modern day Progressive Metal scene, his music could be placed somewhere on the rock spectrum between Mastodon and King Crimson—loud, metamorphic and with an irresistible driving energy.
His debut album ‘Genus’ is a conceptual offering, each song packed with compelling riffs and propelled forward through a melodic progression which never pauses for rest but builds and evolves to an often climactic end. The lyrics are provocative and fit into the larger concept of the album, which deals with mankind’s precarious relationship with the natural world.
