John Novello - keyboards
Dennis Chambers - drums

Description/Reviews:
As one would expect, fusion super-trio Niacin deliver all-star chops on this sixth album. But when keyboardist John Novello, bassist Billy Sheehan, and drummer Dennis Chambers do their thing, like when Sheehan’s nimble four-string weaves in and out of Novello’s Hammond B3 and Chamber’s grooving beat on the title track, you’ll likely mutter “great song” rather than “great lick.” One of the best tunes is “Stormy Sunday,” which features proggy, ELP-like arrangements that glow with Novello’s Keith Emersonesque organ work. Another is “Car Crash Red,” a high-octane thrill ride that channels Edgar Winter and reveals three jazz/rock monsters having loads of fun.

Description/Reviews:

L'alveare, less instinctive and more designed than previuos one, is an album that marks the evolution of a rock full of distortion and melody, focusing on the human being as a whole, with its emotions and its history. Very strong messages and themes permeate the fabric: evil, war, racism, disillusionment and reflection on pain and constructive power of love.
The work of the bees, the buzz of the creative chaos that builds hexagonal tunnels and perfect harmonies, defines both the large studio work behind the album, and the set of human emotions through music and words, communicate the hope to improve ourselves and the world around us.
The album is refined, complicated and pays homage to the authors of Italian literature in the titles of the nine tracks.

Oliver Kaah "Photosynthesis"

Line-up:
Oliver Kaah - drums, bass, guitars, vocals, synths, flute, mouth harp
    With
David Jara - strings (6)
Ismo Heikkinen - voice (1,4)

Description/Reviews:
Photosynthesis often sounds like Devin Townsend might have if he had expanded his music outward from already bloated mutants like Ziltoid and Deconstruction rather than knitting his ideas into succinct songs, as in the case of Addicted or Epicloud. There's fiery aggression stacked next to confessional crooning, gorgeous chiming accents placed over brutal chugging, three songs past the ten minute mark and only one under seven minutes. The music all feels brilliantly conceived and well executed, but it's all hard to pin down or develop a strong sense of direction. Individual moments feel amazing; the whole is a bit ethereal and inaccessible. The baritone monk-chant clean singing style can be off-putting, though it's not without a certain appeal; truthfully, it's balanced quite well with all the blustery blackened rasping on offer throughout the record.

Description/Reviews:
You can not predict how any track on IO is actually going to sound all you can guarantee is more intensity than anything else you’ll find out there at the moment. Every guitar riffs bring the perfect mixture of complexity and power especially through tracks such as Name Your Price and Enemy of Logic. Fortunately No Consequence are far far more than a glorified guitar project, when everything comes together from Collin Bentham’s controlled smashing drums to Kaan’s polar opposite vocals you find a band who truly know what they’re doing. They aren’t out to just show off they’re out there to make bloody great music. Their technically ability to blend technically complexity to make catchy songs is a talent to be proud of.

Description/Reviews:
...with The Terror, the Lips take the bold step of bursting their own bubble. The band’s unrelentlingly bleak new album relates to its predecessor much as Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots did to The Soft Bulletin, retaining its antecedent’s weighty mood but deconstructing the instrumental bombast into more skeletal, mechanical forms. For all its claustrophobic tension, Embryonic still offered much in the way of thunderous rock catharsis; The Terror presents no such salve, drowning its meditative, melancholic melodies in a suffocating, smoggy haze of buzzing synth frequencies, with little rhythmic release. The first song may be called “Look… The Sun is Rising”, but it’s less cheery proclamation than grave warning, its stuttering drum beat and dentist-drill shocks conjuring ominous images of a not-too-distant future where the mere act of going outside will require the use of a gas mask and protective suit.
