painting by Yui Sakamoto
art design by Altamirano-Farrell

Description/Reviews:
The result this time around is less classic prog and closer to an American black midi, Squid, or The Smile: Ever-changing rhythms, sometimes angular or heavy, with a maximalist texture and emotional core. All four band members' personalities shine through for a true group effort. Longtime collaborators guitarist/vocalist Jake Rose and bassist Dominique Reveneau continue their vision of music with complex yet groovable rhythms and a love of 80s post-punk as well as 70s prog. Keyboardist Salvador Altamirano-Farrell has one of the largest rigs you can fit on stage while not being named Rick Wakeman including three tiers of keys and loves all things synth and organ. This album also marks the first recorded appearance of fourth member, drummer Connor Reilly, known for his muscular and dexterous playing on albums by The Mercury Tree, Greco Bastian, and Ventifacts, among others.

This album includes quite a different songs, yet the musical storyline from the beginning till the end is clear.  It includes both more straightforward heaviness and more delicate atmospheres, without forgetting progressive influences. Despite the variety in the songs, there are some elements that unites the songs: catchy melodies and choruses, cello sound and the use of clean and growling vocals.

Description/Reviews:
Kornmo is an instrumental progressive/symphonic band with musical roots in the early ‘70s, with an emphasis on the melodic.
Vårjevndøgnsnatt (Night of the Spring Equinox) is Kornmo’s fourth concept album, based on a story that begins in Ireland and ends in the deep Norwegian forests. This is reflected in the musical expression, both compositionally and through the choice of instruments. Science, philosophy, myths and folklore colour the story that Vårjevndøgnsnatt is based on, which can be read in both Norwegian and English in the accompanying booklet.

Front cover by Dániel Szécsényi and Tamás Kátai
Illustrations by Orsolya Pintér.

Description/Reviews:
With each album, Thy Catafalque has pushed the envelope of extreme metal a step further, bringing the world's most vile art form into conversation with the avant-garde.
Thy Catafalque's twelfth album is even more expansive, but XII: A gyönyörű álmok ezután jönnek ties both to its mastermind's past and the history of his native Hungary.  Keeping in line with his prolific pace, XII arrives just one year after his previous album. Named after the stretch of land where the producer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist was born in southeast Hungary,  Alföld returned to the heaviness from which Thy Catafalque took root during the late '90s. Once again, Kátai set out to make a straightforward metal record, but while there's plenty of cause for chest-pounding, A gyönyörű álmok ezután jönnek ended up taking him on another surreal headtrip.
Still, A gyönyörű álmok ezután jönnek can be a hard road — especially during its crushing middle section. Despite the gentle opening plucks, "Mindenevő" crashes down like a boulder, hurtling ahead at terrifying speed behind doomy operatic backing vocals, mechanized blast beats and the eerie fires of tremolo picking that forged Thy Catafalque's debut Sublunary Tragedies.
Ultimately, the progressive flair that has come to define Thy Catafalque shines through the darkness on album twelve. Only this time around, in order to reach the light at the end of the tunnel, Kátai needed some guidance.  XII marks the first time in the project's history that he worked with an outside producer.
As a result, "A gyönyörű álmok ezután jönnek" stands out as one of Thy Catafalque's biggest crowd pleasers, uplifted by hand claps and catchy, fist-pumping riffs. Even the dark waves of synth glow with the reassurance of the dawn. "At the end, there's still hope for a future that might offer warmer days after the darkness has ceded".

Description/Reviews:
“Polar Human Circle” is another enthralling progressive journey through intense soundscapes with a strong evocative power, a concept whose lyrics, sung by Gabriele Marconcini’s expressive voice, lead the listener to question our species’ actual survival ability. Within an international-scope sonic texture which, thanks to a hard edge and obscure side – unprecedented in the band’s music style – blends 90s prog-metal (Queensrÿche) with more modern sounds (Riverside, Porcupine Tree, but also Marillion’s most recent works), Raven Sad combine songs here shorter and more immediate than in the past with an epic title track that, in almost 27 minutes, unfolds among psychedelia, orchestral sections and dissonant fugues.

On this second part, the moods are darker and the sounds more electronic – veering into synth-rock and even ambient. Still, there is an overarching progressive structure to the music, complete with Yobrepus' bent for catchy alt-rock riffs and melancholy ballads.

Description/Reviews:
“2084: Viaggio nel Nulla” (2084: Journey into Nowhere) is a 100% Alphataurus record, starting from its beautiful and futuristic three-panel cover illustrated by the band’s new drummer, recalling the paintings of the magnificent debut album. Musically, the sound is more modern and catchy, but also delivers a complex and ever interesting song construction, as shown in the long tracks “Pista 6” and “Wormhole”. As the title suggests, “2084: Viaggio nel Nulla” is a dystopian, sci-fi concept full of philosophical and existential insights.

Produced and mixed by Ethan Janais Matthews
Mastered for CD and LP by Dana White (Specialized mastering, Portland, OR)
LP lacquer by Gus Elg (Sky Onion mastering)

Description/Reviews:
It is an accessible and distinctly atmospheric laden variety of the form we get here, and one that probably is closer to the neo-progressive tradition than anything else. We get a liberal amount of careful and elegant synthesizer and keyboard parts here that flow along in a manner not too dissimilar to an artist such as Vangelis. These exist as standalone interludes as well as combined with rhythms, a firm bass and carefully wandering guitars that combine into a flowing and atmospheric laden landscape of the kind that fans of neo-progressive rock will find to be strikingly familiar sounding. Occasionally with darker toned electric guitars added to the bottom end for a more impact-oriented and striking type of arrangement. Janais used to release music under the project name Echo Us, and those familiar with and that enjoy those albums should find themselves right at home with this first production released under the artist name Ethan Janais too. Otherwise this will be an album to seek out by those fond of accessible and atmospheric laden neo-progressive rock. (Olav M. Bjornsen at progressor.net's facebook)

Description/Reviews:
The album "Il mondo esausto" (The Exhausted World), as the title suggests, is the group's vision of the contemporary world that tends to give, deprive and engulf emotions to the human being, making the latter afflicted by the feeling of powerlessness in the face of the impossibility of being able to realize in reality what the mind conceives or desires.
What characterises the songs is a cinematic breath. A series of "soundtracks" for every juncture of a typical day nowadays. No matter in what order you listen to the record, each of us from the moment we wake up to the moment we fall asleep (then passing through the dreamlike) will touch in a completely personal way the emotion and sensation that each track suggests; frenzy, delicacy, frustration, resignation, hope, joy. The listener is accompanied in this emotional vortex that no one can deny experiencing from time to time.

Lyrics, vocal lines and guitar parts by Paul Sadler
Music written, arranged and produced by Andreas Hack
except (2) by Nerissa Schwarz

Description/Reviews:
It is an album that pushes stylistically further in all directions than its predecessor. Bolder, overtly progressive songwriting is combined with a more pronounced virtuosity, yet it never loses the accessible elements that made the first album such a critical and artistic success.
Once again, Andreas’ former bandmate, electric harpist Nerissa Schwarz enriches the music with a wide range of sounds, from eerie ambient soundscapes to energetic outbursts. Lyrically the album deals primarily with the theme of impermanence and the way in which we are all affected by the knowledge of our own mortality. All these elements are combined in a unique cinematic, gothic and truly progressive album, that despite its musical complexities remains relatable and honest, and will linger in the listener’s mind long after the music stops.

Description/Reviews:
Soundwise, “This Is Not Art” sounds fresh, unique, innovative, diverse yet nostalgic and familiar. Anyone writing, producing, and performing music knows that’s a difficult task to achieve, but it seems like SVYNX does it with such ease. With their distinctive vision on stake, it’s vividly notable that their sonic expression demands an amalgamation of many different but complementary music genres. Perhaps alternative rock comes to mind but many other rock subgenres lurk around. You’ll notice how they incorporated post-hardcore, post-rock, progressive rock, math rock noise rock, indie rock, garage, and many more, but their experimentation doesn’t stop there. Quite the contrary, there are incorporations of some of the finest sonic ingredients borrowed from hyperpop, synth, and electronic music. Still, the band primarily focuses on analog guitar sound, with subtle nods to synthetic ambiances. It’s needless to say these experimentations sound exciting, challenging, and impressive from scratch to finish, as these experienced musicians poured heart and soul into their magnificent full-length album.

Description/Reviews:
Where Gods Fear To Speak is a multi-faceted entry into Oceans Of Slumber’s burgeoning legacy. Many of the melodic and textural elements that made Starlight & Ash such a revelation are still present, but scabrous brutality and complex, cultured arrangements are back with a vengeance. With Cammie’s astonishing vocal blend of vulnerability and abominable power, these songs are the best possible showcase for a band on an unerring mission to win the world over.
A colossus in both conception and execution, Where Gods Fear To Speak eschews the usual modern metal sounds in favor of an overwhelming, wall-of-sound production. As songs like the thunderous title track and the grim and sprawling "Don’t Come Back From Hell Empty Handed" cast their meandering, malevolent spells, every instrument leaps out with laser-like clarity, and the vast, emotional heft underpinning Dobber and Cammie’s lyrics is brought rivetingly to the fore. Meanwhile, standout gems like "The Given Dream" and "Poem of Ecstasy" showcase Oceans Of Slumber’s still-evolving core sound, with soaring melodies and jaw-dropping dynamics that casually blur the boundary between the accessible and the avant-garde, while basking in the brooding glow of Cammie’s unique voice. Produced in collaboration with esteemed studio guru Joel Hamilton at Audovision Studios in Bogota, it emerges as a self-evident labor of love for all of those involved.
From the doom-laden opening chords of "Where  Gods Fear To Speak" – released as the album’s first preview single, and revealing Cammie’s feral death growls for the first time – to the dying, desolate embers of grand finale "Impermanence Of Fate", the new Oceans Of Slumber album is simply the most immersive and fascinating piece of work the band have made. As added intrigue, guest stars Mikael Stanne of Swedish melo-death legends Dark Tranquillity, and Moonspell’s iconic frontman Fernando Ribeiro lend their vocal talents to "Run From The Light" and "Prayer" respectively. Steeped in the oppressive atmospheres of doom, death and gothic metal, but rendered using a spinning kaleidoscope of progressive musical shades, Where The Gods Fear To Speak idly defies categorization, while strenuously redefining the artistic formula that Oceans Of Slumber have spent so many years refining. Meanwhile, these songs paint such vivid pictures that it comes as little surprise that Where Gods Fear to Speak is a certified concept work, with a cinematic streak a mile wide.

Description/Reviews:
Fen’s sixth album, Dear Mouse, breaks a twelve-year silence. It looms at a crossroads of genres and brings together elements taken from throughout the band’s discography. “Seam of the Heart” is a multi-movement composition whose lyrics resonate with their eerie concept album, Heron Leg. “Ritual Lite” competes for poppiest melody with both Congenital Fixation and Of Losing Interest. Throughout the album, the guitar work shapeshifts from jagged riffage to ethereal textures, offering a summary of decades of refinement.
