Description/Reviews
You know how much I dislike having too many labels to describe Progressive Rock music right? Well one of my few concessions is the term Alt-Prog. It’s a term I use to classify bands that have a very alternative, contemporary sensibility but infuse their music with an undeniable Prog approach. Such is the case with the oddly named Portland, Oregon based power-trio, Bangbakc and the music they create on Lot Lizards. If I might generalize Alt-Prog is at times clamorous and often angst-ridden, and I mean that in a good way. The music goes through all the proper proggy moves, changing time, tempo and dynamics. Songs, as on Lot Lizards tend to be longer allowing for many musical change-ups, loads of angularity, a little dissonance and just a dash of dramatic introspection. You’ll experience all of what I’ve described on the opening track “The Theme to The Lot Lizards” [11:01].  And there’s even more to experience on the remaining six compositions including some absolutely grand melodic, anthemic riffs. Often times out of nowhere you’ll hear the strangest musical bits and pieces. Similarly the music often swivels from one distinctly rock-influenced segment into something completely different. It all makes for a very creative listening experience. It is music that is obviously influenced by the prog musical tradition, but bears little resemblance to anything you might have heard before. And I guess that’s a good thing, right?  This is actually the second album of a three-part story line and as I say makes for some intriguing listening. Well worth checking out. (Jerry Lucky)

Description/Reviews
One of the things I’ve always appreciated about the Progressive Rock genre is its ability to allow for so much musical variety. Take for example this album from UK based multi-instrumentalist Gordon Midgley entitled Vanished Age. Midgely, the mastermind behind the dramatic story telling band Treagle’s Choice has gone in a completely different direction here and produced a mostly instrumental album that features music inspired by the classic mythological heroes and tales of yesteryear. It is, for lack of a better description, a musical soundtrack to a movie that was never made. Twelve tracks, forty-six minutes of music that is crafted with no vocals per se, instead there are short spoken word elements as if lifted off the movie screen designed to enhance the emotional aspect of the music. Unlike his previous musical efforts, which tended to be musically heavy AND vocally dense, this is more organic and at times even pastoral with more acoustic elements shining through. Now having said that I feel I must qualify that by saying there are still many dramatic moments with the heavy electric guitar sitting in the spotlight. If anything the lack of vocals has allowed for more guitar and keyboard interplay which again tends to create a more symphonic, soundtrack feel to the music. At times the music does little more than create moods, playing off simple arpeggiated melodies or stirring string-styled musical atmospheres. Sometimes the music is strange and haunting with layers of icey Mellotron strings set against a primal rhythm foundation. It’s a world away from Midgley’s other music but that’s a good thing because it allows for a whole new creative outlet to be exposed. Fascinating stuff and recommended to fans of music from bands such as The Enid, Karda Estra and 17 Pygmies. ( Jerry Lucky)

Description/Reviews
Perhaps a fitting definition of the band would be a psychedelic jazz-rock orchestra.  The music is as eclectic as its inspirations, but these almost conflicting styles never crowd each other out or compromise the flow of the album.  As obtuse as it seems from the surface, DITS is a surprisingly easy listen.  The music is immersive and impeccably arranged.  Tracks like the opener, midpoint, and closer (“Hi-Fruktose Noize Sserp,” “Before the Silver Tether Breaks,” and “Waltzing with Woland,” respectively) layer rich textures together without becoming overbearing.  Complex tracks like the polyrhythmic “Requiem Shark” contrast the more straightforward approach of songs like “Memento Mori.”  The instrumental interludes are delicately spaced to create room for meditative moments.  The album’s second suite prominently features a choir, which elevates the whole album to grand heights.  Phil’s vocals rarely exceed a comfortable range, though it is befitting to the album the few instances when they do.  It takes a song or two to adapt to Physick’s dense and direct style of writing music and lyrics.  However, it begs for another listen by the time the door has closed on the album.

Line-up
Jerry Cordova - Bass
Logan Kennedy - Percussion
Derek Reed - Guitar/Synth

Description/Reviews
Previously involved in musical acts together, the group has reunited after a 10 year hiatus to produce a style of music along the lines of space/dream rock, influenced by such bands as The Cure, Jane's Addiction, Pink Floyd, Yes, Failure, Tool, and Queens of the Stone Age. Musically, they have been described as having deep, pronounced, complex bass and percussion with mystical hypnotic vocals, complimented by ambient guitar riffs. Lyrically, their music deals with such topics as dreams, surrealism, illusion, and the art of deception; they often involve complex metaphors and extended comparisons in their tracks to describe the relationship between reality and other planes.

Description/Reviews
This is classic melodic heavy metal, spiced with some power, symphonic, and progressive metal, and then wrapped up in some obvious rock groove. To say that this is wildly progressive metal is probably casting our stones to far into the water. There's nothing hyper-technical about the arrangements. There's some gratuitious tempo changes and nice mixtures of instruments, light piano intro and segues against striking riffage, by example. But it's enough to gather some intrigue. Something I did notice, call it a "feeling" more than anything, is that the overall tone of the music is almost melancholy. Not dark, in some creepy goth metal way, but seemingly somber.

Description/Reviews
Theirs is a melodic metal framework around which they then experiment with symphonic, progressive and even thrash metal themes and ideas. Where Teramaze really excel though is in terms of the compositional nous, the innate sense of melody and an acute comprehension of what makes a powerful piece of music that will have the listener returning for frequent repeat spins. The keys add to the richness and depth of the songs and, whilst they never get in the way or sound cheesy, they’re there throughout the album to add another dimension and a sense of the dramatic.

Description/Reviews
The good news is that the best track is the title track that opens the album. It’s by far the longest track at almost 17 minutes. It reminds me a bit of old Porcupine Tree back when they were experimental. The features the best hooks and transitions on the record. The problem is I don’t think the rest of the album lives up to the opening epic.

Description/Reviews
“Serene” is a fairly accurate title for this monster album by Oslo’s “Delvoid.” While the band know exactly how to use serene moments, but don’t be fooled. The band use extended, quieter moments that still feel somewhat unsettling. It always feels like the calm before the storm. And the storm always comes, you just don’t know when. It’s that sort of tension that makes “Serene” an amazing, engaging listen!

Description/Reviews
Their arrangements force you to completely immerse yourself within each measure. So much that I would compare this album to the glory days of Pink Floyd in that it can change dynamics in an instant without losing the listener. It begs to be enshrined, vacuum sealed, cherished, and studied for the remainder of time as we know it. So that all future generations may know what is possible when we as humans can “plug” our hearts in and make music. What has come about from We Stood Like Kings has embedded itself within me as what Post Rock was, is, should be, and is bound to become. All future instrumental music will be forever changed as a result. All genres as a whole should take note. I am astonished at their ability to make the piano play so many different roles without succumbing to redundancy. Foundation melody, lead hook, and background ambience. I hear a careful dichotomy of opposing melody and symbiotic harmony.

They wanted the music to sound more like pop music including retro and progressive instrumental parts. Now Elleven are back after 8 long years of waiting.

Description/Reviews
The theme of the album is about being fearless and every song has something to do about fearlessness. The theme came from the struggles of everyday life that everyone deals with. How people, emotions, media, governments can enforce fear upon you to make you think a certain way to more or less control you. It's an album for those who struggle to stand up for themselves and can't let their voice be heard.
Certain songs have lyrical ideas about war, media, falling in and out of love, spirituality and faith, good and evil. To sum it up, it is an album about hope. Sounding dark at times but with hope at the end of the tunnel. “Exodus” is a very impressive and diverse album that will surely appeal to fans of progressive metal, progrock and melodic metal. The album has a great mix of catchy melodies, challenging instrumental parts and epic cinematic movements that will surely capture the attention of the musical community. Everything comes together perfectly in the title track that ends the album with its 18 minutes long epic filled with melodies, progressive parts and a good dose of feeling.

Description/Reviews
The album is entitled Odissea and is a conceptual one, a sparkling rock opera with more than 73 minutes of good music and strong melodies... The beautiful, long opener "Overture" starts softly with an instrumental section for piano that could recall Goblin, then the rhythm takes off. In the night you're welcomed on board of a mysterious ship that is setting off on a journey across a raging sea, towards unknown lands where you will find war, ambiguities, unreality and ferocious ogres to deceive. You are troubled by your own fragility and you feel lost, you don't know what are you looking for... Who can save you?

Description/Reviews
Return From Dreaming finds the band in fine form, a return in many aspects: the clean production accentuates the fragility in tracks such as elegiac opener Signal Lost and the duo’s policy of endless improvisation serves as a counterpoint to the regimented grooves of Space Race and New Theories In Astronomy.

An AOR hook laden background with progressive odd meter time signatures thrown in. Emphasis on balance between instrumentation, vocal melodies and catchy rhythmic song structures. Time Horizon has songs influenced from the epic bands of timeless classics, yet maintained an identifiably unique approach. Each song on an album has its own characteristic blend, but yet retains a cohesive flow in the music as a whole.

Each song tells a story of the trials and tribulations of everyday life. From small scale situations, such as the torment and opinions of other people, to world changing conflicts like war and the brainwashing of a civilization. "Everyday Without A Purpose", is meant to open your mind to the realities of your surroundings and that everything you do everyday is without purpose compared to the infinite press of time. But you are not without a purpose and are deserving of freedom, respect, happiness and honor.
