Jean-Louis Morais - guitar, composer
Olivier Verhaeghe - bass
Charles Duytschaever - drums

Description/Reviews
Outre Mesure, a strong identity on the borders of several influences. Around the compositions of Jean Louis Morais, the group navigates through jazz, rock, written or improvised music.
Their music is both unbridled and subtle, powerful and poetic, narrative and free. Outre Mesure stages, tells stories, inoculates its poison taking care not to provide the antidote. And far from impeding the spontaneity, freedom of the performers, narration also gives way to pure energy, gambling, without outline or visit.

Description/Reviews
Their debut album “Palindromia” creates a convincing case that other prog bands from Italy may just have a challenger in sight for their reign as the modern metal champions of the country. Essentially, Fatal Destiny embrace a similar modern metal culture flush with melody as Fates Warning and Dream Theater do in their respective soundscapes, but with an additional touch of modern take on the genre.

Mark Stanley – guitar (3, 5)
George Newhouse – drums (1, 5)
Steve Pastena – French horn (6)

Description/Reviews
As related in detail on Manna/Mirage’s website, Blue Dogs was originally meant as half of a big- band album by The Muffins. Clocking in at a mere 35 minutes, the album is such a rewarding listen that it almost feels like the appetizer before a full meal – jam-packed with buoyant horns and woodwinds, energetic yet stylish drumming, multilayered keyboards and keen-edged guitar. While the imprint of Newhouse’s mother band is clearly stamped all over it, Blue Dogs goes one step further, bearing witness to the artist’s love of classic jazz, as well as the Canterbury sound’s trademark blend of elegance and whimsy.

Description/Reviews
These progressive metallers do a great job of mixing and matching different styles of metal giving them plenty of room to toy with their sound, and giving them plenty of room to create a new sound each and every song. Nothing throughout Gravity Beats Nuclear sounds the same. There are no recycled riffs, no rehashed synths, and no overplayed themes.
At certain times during this release, Standing Ovation takes an almost theatrical approach to their music. The song in which it is most notable is Fool’s Parade as it almost unravels like a play right before your eyes. Fool’s Parade is a slower song that focuses more on the play of a dizzying piano than any other song does. More than that, the vocalist seems as though he’s singing in a broad way show as he belts out silky cleans on top of the already smooth musicianship.
On the other side of the progressive metal token, Standing Ovation gives you songs such as Hellbillies which is arguably the most entertaining songs on the entire album. Hellbillies shoots out of the gate with an electronic intro that quickly splits off into a bouncy, road kill frying boot stomping romp. This song is the heaviest on the album as it supplies you with plenty of quick little blast beats, almost death metal style riffing and directly in the middle of the song is an uncharacteristic death metal growl which is followed by something like a gremlin.

Description/Reviews
Those lucky enough to score a "miracle" ticket to the Fare Thee Well concerts this summer were treated to some potent psychedelic jams during the shows' intermissions. The mysterious group behind those freewheeling tunes was Circles Around the Sun, a band convened by guitarist Neal Casal specifically for the project. The project began when Casal was asked by video director Justin Kreutzmann to compose and record more than five hours of original music to be played along with the visuals Kreutzmann was preparing for the Fare Thee Well intermissions. The songs were composed and recorded during a two-day jam session. The results were so captivating, and the audience response so overwhelmingly positive, Rhino decided to give the music a proper release.

Description/Reviews
There are hints of progressive rock but also heavy riffs, Space Rock, some pretty laid back stuff and a number of other styles I am not able to describe so you’ll have to give it a listen and get your labeller out, if that floats your boat. There are heavy and edgy riffs throughout the album that might give a nod to some of Dean’s musical influences but these influences are just that. Originality trumps influence here. There are also mellow little tunes that you could chill to.

Description/Reviews
"Arca" is visionary instrumental space-rock trip from the collective Downlouders .
A concept as a fantastic soundtrack between epic and melancholic atmospheres.
From the magical psychedelic sound of the seventies (the first Pink Floyd over all) and the cosmic kraut-rock to the dreamlike side of post-rock (Godspeed You! Black Emperor, Mogwai as references).
Downlouders is an open space-orchestra with strong use of synths, lysergic guitars, drums, deep bass, electric piano, trumpet, percussions and alien voices.
Just close your eyes to get carried away on a wonderful journey into the cosmos.

Description/Reviews
Heavy space rock outsiders Mammatus return with their fourth album, and their most ambitious to date. Sparkling Waters is a double LP featuring four multi-movement pieces, each designed to recalibrate the shanga array in your mind. In order to achieve the highest levels of sensatory clarity, the group enlisted Phil Manley (Trans Am, Life Coach) as their guiding light throughout the studio production. As a result these tracks shimmer with a far out, casual glow, like an aural reflection of a Risan steam pool.

On Sparkling Waters, Mammatus expand upon the astral grooves and heady riffs of their previous compositions and set a course for the furthest horizon. Celestial arpeggiations of electric guitar ricochet infinitely across vast expanses of cosmic debris. Heavy riffs thunder with a rhythmic groove, like the exploding coast of Ornia spoken of in days past. Pastoral passages of mellow, slow burning psychedelia give way to Native American flute melodies and the chanting of spiritual incantations filtered through canyons of delay. Heavenly dual guitar leads soar like a hawk gliding over a mountainside redwood canopy. Radiant synthesizers harmonize to create a shape shifting formation of ambient space that envelops the rock and in some places completely takes over.

Sparkling Waters is bound to appeal to a wide range of discerning listeners, as it incorporates elements of heavy riff rock, prog, and breath metal while it also features the enhancing sonic textures of kosmische sound coloration, soaring synth leads, and astral voyages through deep space. This amalgamation of tones is presented in a way that is wholly original, casting Mammatus as the solitary practitioners of a unique sound that was invented with the express purpose of making you feel.....shanga. So breathe deeply, strap on those headphones, drop the needle, and get far out.

Description/Reviews
The album starts with an instrumental in the spirit of Spock’s Beard called “Symfoprogru.” It’s technical as hell yet quite melodic; a perfect showcase for Ed’s playing. The song really sets the tone for the rest of the album.

Description/Reviews
Second album by the Sicilians Homunculus Res, confirming the originality of the first album and the full compositional maturity achieved by the band.
Their vein remains strongly related to the best Canterbury scene, particularly to "Picchio dal Pozzo" but their musical approach remains open, combining melody and structure.
The lyrics, as usual amusing and ironic, have a common thread, since this is a “concept” concerning a city hospital.

Description/Reviews
On first play, ‘Beyond The Gates Of Bedlam’ is the natural successor to ‘Open Fire’ in content, style and the music. It has all the hallmarks of song structure, melody and lyrics that made me like them in the first place.
The prog credentials are still there, 5 tracks coming in at over 6 minutes and this allows the musical ability of the band to come through in spades and the rest are not lacking for being shorter.
It has a better feel and production as well as being far more confident a product than ‘Open Fire’, there is a definite ‘levelling up’ on this album.

Description/Reviews
This, their second-released recording, is a mysterious Suite which is divided into eight parts where Contemporary Music, Fusion, Avant-Prog, and Canterbury become R.I.O. The six-some's nondescript music oscillates somewhere between written sections and improvisational segments, thus deepening the instrumentation search where electric sounds and acoustic sonority may co-exist.
