At the heart of "Raises" lies a conceptual journey built around themes of rebirth, transcendence and emotional elevation. The album’s symbolic core is the image of a volume knob in constant ascent—an allegory for the need to rise above indifference, superficiality and disconnection. Melodic yet heavy, nostalgic yet futuristic, "Raises" blends the epic attitude of ‘80s metal with the intellectual daring of ‘90s prog and the slick textures of modern synths.

Larva Lumps is a startling record: it somehow flawlessly mixes industrial noise and prog rock into a beautifully stream-of-conscious work that is at once fairly brutal and lovingly serene. The opening piece, Driving Through Darkness, could be the title of a pop-ballad, until you realize the actual meaning of the word 'driving'; jumping out at you seemingly in medias res, the album and track crash thru a minute of jazz-improv and clicking bass that give way to a delightful guitar, before grabbing you again on the road to darkness. The second track, Carving Song, is an industrial monster that sounds like the spawn of Test Dept. and Cubanate, and the epic, 22-minute long closer The Perks of Being a Perv, an instrumental throbbing piece of industrial-meets-prog confusion, is breathtaking.

A rollercoaster is an apt metaphor for the ride Force Rise the Sun took me on; it’s also an apt metaphor for the atmospheric soundscape that InAeona so effortlessly creates. The tracks grab you by the collar with poppy-synth, lift you up with soaring, spacey vocals, and then send you crashing down with crushing and bombastic low-end rhythms. Their sound belongs somewhere on a spectrum between post-rock and industrial metal, somewhere between the late 1990s/early 2000s and contemporary music scene. Are they space post-metal? Are they alternative industrial metal? Are they trance metal (thank you to fellow writer Jesse Almeida for that genre suggestion)? Regardless of genre-labels, I can guarantee that their sound is unlike anything you’ve heard this year.

KoMaRa with their heavy vibe could be a twisted psycho version of Bruford Levin Upper Extremities as the bar band in a nightmare of gut churning proportions. As the Bandcamp page has it, this album is the mostly instrumental soundtrack to a “dark, deviant and explicit detective story” about “abduction and the ultimate demise of the abductee”. This music lurches from the terrifying to the eerie, never once lessening its grip on the horrified but transfixed listener.
