Crea "Dwarves & Penguins"

Country: Sweden
Genre(s): Progressive Rock
Format: CD
Release date: March 29, 2019
Tracklist
    1. The March Of The Penguins
    2. Some Of Us
    3. Shattered Vison
    4. Second Thoughts
    5. Millennium
    6. The March Of The Dwarves
    7. Walk Into Bright Lights
    8. Barbarossa

Line-up
Peter Gren - guitars, E-bow and voices
Nicke Bjerke - bass
Sonny Johansson - drums and percussion
Anders Karlsson - keyboards and voice
   With
Roland Chantra - additional voices (7)

Description/Reviews
The set begins with adventurous track ‘The Marsch Of Penguins’ full of instrumental meanderings. In some respects, this spectacular jam is reminiscent of Gamalon (to my ears, at least). After such an attention-grabbing opener, the things switch into mellow ‘Some Of Us’ to feature very characteristic neoprog atmosphere. Whilst the vocal delivery might be comparable with Martin Wilson (Grey Lady Down), the guitar passages share a kinship with elegance of Steve Rothery (Marillion). Besides, the keyboard courtesy, convincing bass and precise drums are prominent in the mix.

Description/Reviews
On this album Devin has decided to see what would happen if all the styles that make up his current interests were finally represented in one place. To finally shake the fear of expectation, and just do what it is he was meant to do creatively, EMPATH, true to the name, is about allowing the audience a feeling for a variety of musical emotions. The musical dynamics represented on this single album are broad, challenging, and immense. To approach this sort of work with a long history of what makes heavy music ‘heavy’, allows this to be done with a type of power rarely heard.

RPWL "Tales From Outer Space"

Genre(s): Progressive Rock

Format: CD, digital, vinyl

  7. Far Away From Home
Line-up
Yogi Lang - vocals, keyboards
Kalle Wallner - guitars, bass
Marc Turiaux - drums
Markus Jehle - keyboards

Description/Reviews
RPWL continues to develop as a band, but the changes and alterations are mainly subtle. Those who tend to favor the more accessible aspects of Gilmour-era Pink Floyd is still my impression as a key audience for this band, along with those who are existing fans of RPWL obviously. “Tales From Outer Space” isn’t an album that will convert those who didn’t enjoy this band previously, but if accessible, melodic and atmospheric laden progressive rock is your thing, this album is as good as any other in terms of discovering whether RPWL deliver music you need – or not.

The band plays experimental rock with elements from post rock and metal as well as dream pop, trip hop and contemporary jazz. Their music balances on a fine line between the rough and the delicate. Bands such as Porcupine Tree, Mew, Massive Attack, Radiohead and Susanne Sundfør are strong sources of inspiration.
