Description/Reviews:

The band’s overall sound hasn’t changed all that much, but I think the way they compose certainly has.  The band plays a modern progressive rock with alternative elements. They come off as maybe the Smashing Pumpkins of the modern progressive rock scene.  Melody soaks every inch of their sound, and there are segments that resemble post-rock to my ears.  The band loves subtle melodies that transition into new ideas constantly, as well as emotive guitar solos and sweeping choruses.

Launching with the percussion-driven opener In Motion, it sets off a busy set of songs that often burst into proud choruses. Electronic poppy vibes are never far from the surface; the boppy bouncy excursions duelling with the more ambitious. In Vantablack packs plenty into fourteen minutes with a brief mid-song break of pace that leads into a hefty neo-prog string-laden closeout. Possibly the best moment of the album.
Another highlight is the slow march of Phosphene. A dense, textural track that sees the band coming to terms with previous grudges.

From their name to the album’s art, Kepler Ten are achingly truthful about where they come from. The font chosen, the image, the hard science fiction album name all scream classical progressive metal/rock in the vein of Rush, Dream Theater, Ayreon and more. And you know what? That’s exactly what Delta-V is: the tropes of progressive rock played incredibly straight, with an almost childish glee in the craft. And it totally, 100% works, for a given definition of “works”. Are you looking for jaw-dropping technically or crushing heaviness? Look elsewhere. But do you have an open road that needs travelling, a chair that you simply must dance in or a starry sky into which to gaze? Then Delta-V is the album for you.
