Description/Reviews:

The success of the previous album “Senki madara” with the more obvious 70’s sounds made the band go down this musical road even further. So “Saint-Exupéry álma” is for sure the band’s most progressive album to this point and not only because of its concept approach but mostly for its heavy Yes and Genesis influences off this period. Apart from that, longer pieces, recurring themes and motifs, virtuoso instrumental playing, sophisticated changes in rhythm and vocal fugues are also characteristic.

Many tropes of the genre are present, yet used in refreshing ways. Halfway into opener “Când Ziceai Că Pleci Pe Vapor?” (“When Did You Say You’re Leaving on the Ship?”), the lead guitar shifts slightly. It briefly adopts a bright, piercing tone oddly resonant of the classic rock sound sported so successfully by stalwarts like Zeppelin and Skynyrd. It’s a small but perfect example of risks taken to pioneer within a genre vulnerable to the comfortable and bland. This strong track finishes abruptly, seemingly working towards a final cacophony of reverb and textures; I was genuinely disappointed by the sudden halt.

...this is actually an exercise in delicate beauty and a highly mellow listening experience. From the neo-classical opening bars of strings and woodwind on opener ‘The Fall’ it is quickly established that this is going to be a gentle and even quite pastoral journey. Julia’s vocals are far from over the top and accompany the music in a calming fashion that gives it all a bit of a fairy-tale icing. Don’t worry too much about musical overdose of sugary sweetness either, everything strikes as natural and Julia’s tones are what I can only describe as elfin and soothing whether she is softly singing or as in a couple of these tracks seductively whispering.

It’s a fantastic slab of progressive music, a coarse blend of dreamy space-rock, grand and sweeping theatricality, and pounding sections of proggy death.

... their most ambitious LP so far, the aptly titled “Monumenta”. I say aptly titled because the record is truly monumental in scope, both from a compositional and from a purely sonic point of view.
The first thing that comes to mind when first being introduced to “Monumenta” is the decidedly darker direction that Valerinne are pursuing on this record in comparison to their previous LP – “Arborescent”. Right off the bat, the opening track, titled “Edifice”, is brimming with menace – a fast, fierce, precise groove which almost serves as a warning – “beware of sharp edges, intense solar glare and abrasive surfaces”. And so it is, throughout the album as a whole, with stoic relentlessness.

Sunset In The 12th House is a new band founded by Dordeduh masterminds Edmond Karban (aka Hupogrammos) and Sol Faur. Acting mainly as an instrumental band, the quartet performs a unique style that can be best described as a blend of Psychedelic Post Rock and traditional oriental music. The enigmatic band name refers to the astrological array in which the twelfth house is the house of subconsciousness and unconsciousness, of intuition, compassion and spiritual transcendence. It is the residence of the collective unconscious, the wellspring of symbols, archetypes and imagination.
"Mozaic" is the band's debut album and, as the name suggests, a very diverse, colorful work. It crosses various styles bound together by a natural flow from one musical theme to another. "Mozaic" is not a concept album in the true sense of the word even though it could be interpreted this way. Each song represents a stand-alone entity with a specific thematic. Their common conceptual background is the general idea of impermanence seen as constant change and a focus on inner metamorphosis of the human being on its unique alchemical path.

Description/Reviews: 

The album starts off with “Nămetenie”, recently released as a music video. This begins with a hauntingly simplistic but beautiful intro ethereally woven by pan flutes and whispered voices, perfectly matching the mysterious shrouded mountains portrayed in the video. Then the Black Metal influences kick in, and you are immediately swept away by their sheer shattering power. The new vocalist, Tibor, fits in perfectly, bringing in a varying style that seems to flawlessly fit in with the instrumentation, effortlessly flowing from harsh to clean vocals and back again. Perhaps one of the most outstanding tracks on this album is “Izbucul galbenei” with its chuggy riffs and immensely heavy guitar sound that hits you like a torrential flood. The song is very intricate, with a myriad of layers that combine into a beast of a melody, and will undoubtedly be spectacular to witness live. This is followed by the very Folky “La hotaru cu cinci culmi”, with the variation between tracks ensuring that the album remains fascinating to listen to throughout. “Tărîm vîlhovnicesc” is also one of the highlights of “Tău”, with a fast-paced galloping melody intertwined with slower and more melancholic parts. “Împodobeala timpului” is a bit of a strange song however, combining crushingly heavy passages with very Folky tunes. This is accentuated all the more by a hurdy gurdy and female vocals, playing off against screeching guitar solos; definitely a very unique song that might take some getting used to. And finally we come to the last track, “Schimnicește”, a dark and transcendental track that is awash with stormy emotions before drawing to a close and fading out, bringing the listener back full circle.

Fjord is an instrumental band strongly influenced by shoegaze, post-rock and post-metal music, often trying to explore the realm of atmospheric harmonies. "On Icy Shores" is about the the journey of the hopeless soul who gives up living. But escape is within our reach. We just need to realize that it all depends on us, having the strenght to give purpose and meaning to one's path.
With this album, the band tried to recreate this sinusoidal path of life, through musical context and song title. We chronologically pass through a univers full of possibilities, amibiguity, nostalgy, despair only for, in the end, to relink with our old acquaintance, hope.
