A Storm Is Coming is both heavier and more tender than the previous releases, and Bjørn Riis manages to majestically combine the art of rock, prog and atmospheric pop.
Given their laid back and melodious brand of progressive rock, ‘Disconnected’ is an album that could conceivably be played as background music and it would be very adept in this guise, serenely washing over the casual listeners with chameleon-like stealth. Not only that, you’d also fail to notice the richness of the compositions, the textures both subtle and more overt, the atmospheres and the depth of the lyrical content too, an ingredient that makes this record such a powerful one.
“Lullabies in a Car Crash” feature six songs with a coherent and thematical composition. Bjørn’s soulful guitar playing and low-key vocals creates a rich listening experience. Although Bjørn as a guitarist have developed his own sound with a unique tone and his own technique over the years, the playing and tone are reminiscent of David Gilmour, Steven Rothery and Steven Wilson. As a singer this is the first time he takes the lead, normally doing the backing vocals in Airbag. His singing style is in the area of the mellow vocals of Tim Bowness and Nick Drake.
Airbag are continuing their journey through atmospheric sounds and serious topics, creating cinematic pictures and bringing out emotions, pulling the listener into their world. ‘The Greatest Show on Earth’ is a cohesive album with strong emphasis on musical themes and arrangements. The listener is treated to a wide sonic experience, from massive walls of sound to ambient textures and soulful soundscapes. The lyrics deal with the individual and its growing feeling of alienation and distrust in society and the established authorities. At the same time, we are manipulated and kept in a comfortable state of mind, believing we’re in control of our self-centered lives.Media/Samples
