Description/Reviews:
In the new album, Kshettra moves away from familiar dark sound worlds. Although progressive and post-rock still form a strong foundation in many numbers, the band has taken a clear course towards compositions with warm harmonies, the music has been enriched with bright inclusions of electronics and nu-jazz.

Description/Reviews:
What we hear on Serious IV is a fuller and more fluid sounding Detieti. The changes of rhythm and style are no longer so sudden and schizophrenic as they were on previous releases. They are still present, but in a far more easily digested manner, while still maintaining an avant edge. Though I would never say Detieti sound like Beardfish (the two bands are not even close), Serious IV reminds me a lot of my favourite Beardfish album, The Sane Day. There is a sense of controlled chaos (where previously, Detieti went for the chaos, and didn’t bother with the control), and the restraint works surprisingly well. There are times where I can hear where the Detieti of old would have taken a left turn, and they choose not to – and it just works.

Igor Suvorov — lead guitar (3)
Kirill Ildyukov — lead guitar (4)
Denis Kirillov — flute (3,5)
Boris Shulman — banjo (5), backing vocals (1,5)

Description/Reviews:
The opening title track welcomed me to their home, and continues to do so. It’s almost a spacey prog version of Violent Femmes, with its vocal and percussive acrobatics and sparse minimal feel. The clean sound disappears in a wave of fuzz as Wasteland follows. The percussion is heavier and darker, the chanting hypnotic and shamanic. Waves of Tangerine and Pink float over the rhythmic barrage, and now there’s the galloping riffy intro to Njanatiloka, like a psychedelic Iron Maiden, before erupting into something more like Black Sabbath, and that’s just the beginning. It jumps all over the place over its ten or so minutes and is easily my favourite track here. However, while I’m mentioning names, realistically The Grand Astoria doesn’t really sound like any of these. It’s just an attempt to show how nimbly the band leaps from one sound to another. So let’s add some more. How about Queen and Chrome Hoof?

Juice Oh Yeah "Juice Oh Yeah"

Country: Russia
Genre(s)Eclectic Ethnic Psychedelic, Progressive Rock, Stoner
Label: addicted label cat# 741
Format: CD, digital, cassette
Release date: May 22, 2020
Tracklist
1 Rels - 4:18 (Rail / Рельс)
2 Dnaa - 6:29 (Bottommm / Днаа)
3 Mane - 12:07 (Endlong / Вдоль)
4 Poleno - 7:51 (Log / Полено)
5 Vnyz - 7:54 (Downwards /Вниз)

Total Time 38:39

Line-up
Boris Shulman – fretless bass, vocals
Sviatoslav Lobanov – drums

Description/Reviews
The following Dnaa ... is a huge surprise by showing the two musicians in a very restrained way. The bass guitar and drums are first joined by a harp chord, and then later by an Asian sounding string instrument. Then, all of a sudden, the music falls into the background, to be replaced by high multi-layered vocals that might remind you of American indie folk bands, or early Seventies folk prog bands, except that the intonation is purely Russian. The bass guitar returns in all its distorted glory to transform this track into some kind of Beach Boys on an enjoyable hellish acid trip, complete with a brass section adding a swinging Sixties atmosphere. So there is so much happening on this song alone, but the duo never loses track of its majestic songwriting.

Description/Reviews
They also like to associate themselves with the term pronk, which stands for progressive punk and has been made popular – well, more or less – by British band Cardiacs. Where these pronk pioneers usually had very strict songwriting, Detieti prefer to dabble more in freeform exercises, which can best be heard on the first and last track on the album, which both are about ten minutes long. The opener Cocaintro is not so much an intro but a nine minute long elaboration of different motifs that use all kinds of elements, from Black Sabbath influenced doom riffs to classical music. The overall impression if quite funky, as if the Spin Doctors had been let loose after the intake of unspecified hallucinogens.
