The music on Marbin’s sixth album, Goatman and the House of the Dead, evokes imagery so vivid it’s easy to imagine this album being a soundtrack to a movie; perhaps a futuristic western. Each one of the nine new compositions tells a story with twists and turns and gives us a glimpse inside the band’s collective mind.

Description/Reviews
The darker tone of the album is a reflection of our moods and feelings going through a particular time in our lives.
While “In Hoc Signo” was a tribute to '70s Italian Progressive Music and highlighted every single instrument expressiveness to communicate feelings, in this album the band endorsed a new way of composing.
Every song shapes up with intros, crescendos and diminuendos in dynamic and revolves around main themes combined to every specific moment of the composition.
While maintaining a jazz approach into writing harmonies musicians acquired a big structured rock sound which lead them to introduce English as the singing language. In some way Italian seemed too melodic for the music they were writing.

Through a profound mix of emotions and music styles, Rock, Prog, and song format Fluido Rosa have tried to dig into the human soul and past the confines of rational understanding. The stylistic influences come from the diverse tastes and experiences of the band members. The most evident of which, is of course Pink Floyd in virtue of the fact they have played (Tribute Band) this mythical bands music for over twenty years.

Description/Reviews
The debut album from Dutch band Synergy Protocol is certainly not an album comprised of disposable, mindless tracks. No, this is heavy, symphonic progressive rock with all the Gothic and Classical influences that this brings with it. ‘Odd To Get Even‘ is a collection of hard edged songs that sound like they are being played by a band with plenty of experience under their collective belts.

Total Time 35:37

Line-up
Kevin Hufnagel (Gorguts) - gutiars
Colin Marston (Gorguts) - bass
Jeff Eber - drums

Description/Reviews
“Internal_Eternal” opens with a classic King Crimson guitar line, hypnotizing us for a full minute before the band really kicks in with some jazzy improv. One can hear the post-metal similarity to Russian Circles by the midpoint here, with a less technical, more flowing variation on the guitar line, backed by a conventional chord progression and relatively sparse drum fills. I say relatively because Jeff Eber is a monster on the drums, and can make the listener dizzy with his fills.

8. Overworld Map (1:44)
9. Mammoth (4:02)

Total time 29:53

Line-up
Jorge Arana - Guitar, Keys
Jason Nash - Bass
Josh Enyart - Drums

Description/Reviews
Mammoth is a sophisticated blend of sounds and structures that challenges expectations, pushing the art rock genre into the world of progressive music with jazz fusion and math rock elements. Building on previous albums Mapache and Oso‘s use of playful genuine interaction in the patterned riffs and rhythms, Mammoth ups the ante by incorporating a tense and dark mood across the entire album. This album is aggressive, this album is frantic, this album is a true “bruiser”. “Speak, Beast” sets the tone, casting a menacing shadow of distorted lead guitar over brooding keyboard pads and drums that sound more tribal than belonging in a rock band. With Mammoth, the listener gets the feel that they are in an epoch not their own – they are in a world of gnashing tusks, embattlement, and ultimately survival.

Line-up

Daniel Fleps - Keyboard, Back Vocals
Simon Gstöhl - Guitars
Julian Nachbauer - Guitars
Michael Simic - Drums

Description/Reviews
Throughout, there is an undoubtable jazzy and fusion hue as evidenced on the engaging ‘Labyrinth’ with its shifting time signatures and jazzy organ fills whilst ‘White Mirror’ could even be Lee Ritenour in his late-seventies commercial heyday.
‘Familiar Surroundings’ is a good example of the band’s output.  The proggy passages could be Spock’s Beard but always grounded in the jazzy groove.
If Katatonia is now characterised by  Jonas Renkse’s broody vocals adding a distinctive air of melancholia to the proceedings, Bastian Berchold’s  jazzy vocals permeate ‘Second Relation’ and leave an indelible mark.

Colorado’s Source are one of those bands who just couldn’t hold out for the new Tool album and took it upon themselves to make it, like so many other acts are doing these days. The difference is, I think they’ve actually done it. Without a doubt, fans of Tool, Karnivool, Soen, Chevelle, The Reticent and so many more will absolutely love what’s been done here.

Description/Reviews
Marillion has certainly not mellowed with age; the album artwork shows the acronym ‘FEAR’ embossed on a gold ingot, and the songs themselves bear the hallmark of true quality.
Whilst the album title itself is certainly provocative, it’s not meant to be offensive. The title itself features as a line in the track ‘New Kings’ and is delivered as a plaintive falsetto. ‘FEAR’ sees the band taking on the big themes but they do not see it as their place to preach to people. ‘New Kings’ looks at the ravening beast that modern capitalism seems to have evolved into, ‘El Dorado’ examines the notions of political entitlement and the modern challenges for the UK, ‘The Leavers’ examines the impact of a transient life on the road for those constantly waving goodbye.

Description/Reviews
In true Ouroborean style, "Fires Within Fires" gives due to its predecessors while progressing forward into the unfamiliar and formidable. Striking the band's signature balance between light and dark, beauty and repulsion, dense sonic heaviness and reflective space. "Fires Within Fires" is succinct, raw and deeply soulful, an all-encompassing reminder to all that transfiguration in sound remains their most commanding and inimitable strength.

Description/Reviews
Reflecting upon themes such as nature, metaphysics, space and time, the album propels the listener on a sonic journey through the "Portals" of imagination.

Musically, the new record possesses a heavier approach to previous releases and further explores the fusion of world music influences with metallic, progressive rock.

Description/Reviews
The album is a roaring, soaring, never-boring, infuriating, wild and often whacky smorgasbord of a record – equal parts Prog, Psychedelic, Rock, Metal, Funk, Lounge, Shred, and a number of other styles that have yet to be coined with a term. Sometimes weird, often crazy, yet always compelling and dosed with fiery passion and high levels of musicianship, Offworld takes the listener on a trip through Space Opera’s most bizarre and dangerous reaches.

Description/Reviews
I would describe them as a fusion of alternative rock, heavy prog, and maybe a little post rock influence.  If I were to put that into band influences, I’d point to the dreamy atmosphere of Katatonia, the steely edge of Porcupine Tree, and the raw distortion of 00’s alternative rock.  You might even catch some Anathema in there, too.  Now, I’m not saying they are influenced by those bands.  I actually have no idea who has influenced them.  But those are the familiar sounds I hear in their music.

Description/Reviews
With two albums under their belt, their music stretches from progressive rock & ambient to Mediterranean with a traditional eastern flair (give attention to the sound of the traditional instrument "Santur"). This time, the band's themes play with every knowledgeable form in an attempt to escape from the human gaze itself. Music-wise the experimental and electronic element replaces the electric effusions of their previous work.

Description/Reviews
...what we have here are genuine mainstream contenders. It’s not even a ‘grower’- from the first spin this album is instantly, gob-smackingly, impressive.
Opening track ‘Mountain Heart’ may be the most mountainous piece of music ever written; it opens with all the pomp and grandeur of Leslie West’s Mountain, jagged keys and stratospheric guitar soloing, and then once the massed vocals erupt the left field retooling of classic rock perfected by early Black Mountain is called to mind…and the songs called, well, you get it. As a showcase for the bands sound it’s well chosen, the sweet soulful surge of voices and the swirling Hammond cause an uplift of your spirits which is maintained across the length of the album, despite many darker moments. I’m going to stick my neck out and say it’s the best opening number on an album I’ve heard this year.

7. A Final Vision (8:33)

Total time 53:12

Line-up
Mattias Bhatt - Guitar
Martin Hjertstedt - Drums
Gustav Almberg - Guitar
Kristian Karlsson - Bass

Description/Reviews
The album title „Versus“ emerged out of a song idea, that consisted of two very different and contrasting ideas, which were never planned to be one song, but ended up complementing each other. Versus doesn't necessarily describe a relationship between irreconcilable entities, the band explain.
Whilst some elements of the album will be familiar to pg.lost fans, there are some distinct differences to previous releases. The effect-saturated vocals, which were a trademark on previous pg.lost releases, have disappeared on „Versus“, and given way to more keys and synths. Their sound is throbbing with great melancholy, but there is also an element of dirty rock n' roll thrown in, as demonstrated in the crushingly heavy closing section of monumental opening track „Ikaros“, in the distorted bass line kicking off the second track of the album, „Off The Beaten Path“, or in the huge roomy drum sound throughout the record.

Description/Reviews
Everything from 70s hard rock to psychedelia and further on to jazz-like elements have been thrown into the mix in a well-executed manner, and "Contrapasso» is both captivating and intriguing as a result thereof. The dramatic vocals are also more convincing than the last time around.
