Arcade Messiah combines elements of metal, stoner, doom, prog, math rock, and ambient post rock into a sonic maelstrom of seven instrumental songs.Media/Samples
John Bassett: "after writing and producing numerous KingBathmat albums and more recently the acoustic solo album "Unearth, I decided I wanted to create my first instrumental album, and I wanted it to be set, audibly and visually in a dark, bleak apocalyptic aura of despair and anger. I wanted to focus on enormous riffs & sorrowful yet powerful musical refrains and place them within a terrain of unusual time signatures interspersed by moments of psychedelic calm."

The album promises to be a subtle, sophisticated album of modern acoustic songs, imbued with melancholic melodies with a progressive slant. The emotive songs of "Unearth" encompass and depict the dark substratum of modern life. Social engineering, existential contemplation, survivalism, childhood truama, love & despair and everything inbetween.

The 6 tracks on "Overcoming The Monster" deal with the themes of psychological obstacles (monsters of the mind) that are manufactured in our thoughts, both internally through our insecurities, externally by the outside influence of others and collectively through the mass media which uses fear as a tool to manipulate our perceptions. "Overcoming The Monster" addresses the need to ignore these clandestine forms of control and rise above the Illusory obstacles that are placed in our path in order to deliberately block opportunities that are accessible to everybody.

While exhibiting a diverse array of influences, the end result is nevertheless very coherent and effective. For example, the first song “Behind the Wall” begins with a classic heavy metal style riff, which suddenly transitions into a dreamy arrangement of spacey guitars and delicate synths, yet the transition doesn’t feel jarring. Each change is perfectly accentuated by the drums, and the bass alternates between grooving through dreamy guitar-keyboard psychedelia and doubling the guitar parts with heavy forcefulness. This excellent instrumental cake is then iced with rich vocal layers, often with a catchiness that any pop artist would envy.Read the whole review by Kyler Stoneman at progulator.com
