Description/Reviews
To try and give you an idea of the sound that Magoria has put together, I think the best way to describe it is as an amped up, more energetic, epic and explosive version of Ayreon. The guitar style and the overall way the songs are structured reminded quite strongly of the sci-fi prog hippie genius Arjen Lucassen, making use of clever progressive patterns from time to time whilst still allowing most of the songs to keep a fairly basic, accessible structure and always nailing unbelievably catchy choruses. But the difference is that Magoria builds a massive momentum with slightly faster tempos, a huge orchestral soundscape and a flurry of head-altering guitar and keyboard solos. Mark Bogert’s playing varies from groovy, palm-muted stuff to power metal riffs and very striking lead sections that show off both technical prowess and remarkable melody, always perfectly fitting the song. And every now and then he brings in the clean guitar effect, as this album also has a lot of soft, emotional cheesy moments that sound so much like the typical style of a musical. However, he’s not dominating the instrumentals. This is one of those bands that perfectly balances the show-off effects with cohesive compositions and gives every single instrument a meaningful role in the overall piece.
