Jeff Eacho: flute (3, 6)

Description/Reviews
Blending influences of 70's classic FM album rock (Stones, Kraftwerk, Steely Dan, Supertramp) with a melodic prog flavor, The Man From RavCon's ninth release, “Another World,” may be considered a somewhat more accessible work than his most recent offerings, but is no less adventurous in scope. With contributions from special guests, guitarist Larry Smith, and flutist Jeff Eacho, “Another World” features a more lighthearted, breezy vibe making it the perfect soundtrack for Summer 2018 and beyond.

Description/Reviews
Having a harder and at times darker feel to its 2006 predecessor `Fortune Telling`, `The Spotlight Effect` has the different aspects of the human condition as its overriding theme. It focuses on the media-driven world we find ourselves in today, where every move we make is analysed then picked to pieces. There`s nothing sacred anymore; all things are considered fair game for an `entertain-me` hungry audience.

Total Time 76:55

Line-up
Xavi Reija - drums
   With
Tony Levin - bass guitar, upright bass, stick
Markus Reuter - touch guitar
Dusan Jevtovic - guitar

Description/Reviews
...“Deep Ocean” starts things off with a fanfare of muscular guitar and cymbals crashing like waves on the rocky coast, carving out the beach and unearthing a primal groove with growling bass and jittering spectral figures. “The Sound of the Earth I” brings to mind David Sylvian’s post-Japan near ambient instrumental excursions where space and pause became as integral to the “composition as place” as his trusty Prophet 5. Once this world is created, and with a decidedly Beckian vibe (Jeff, that is), Dusan wrings from the neck of his guitar, some of the most emotive broken phrases and edited soulful voicings.

Simone Cecchini: vocals, acustic guitar 6 & 12 strings
Diego Petrini: drums, piano, synth, mellotron
Federico Caprai: bass
Simone Brozzetti: electric guitar
Eva Morelli: flute, alto & soprano sax, piccolo

Description/Reviews
Contrary to what often happens in the vast progressive rock panorama, crowded by many prolific artists, Il Bacio della Medusa has always taken their right time to release a new album: this time six years have in fact passed from the previous “Deus Lo Vult”. Nothing to complain, however, when the wait is rewarded by the high quality of the result.
“Seme*” is no exception in this sense and, if the wind instrumensts played by Eva Morelli and Simone Cecchini’s voice represent elements of continuity with the past, everything else has been completely revolutionized. We are in fact facing the band’s most immediate and at the same time more varied record, a blend of hard, folk, jazz and classic rock, typical songwriter’s moments and even country and electronic music!
If it’s true that ‘prog’ means also evolution and mixing between musical genres, we are therefore in the presence of a daring album that, even if considerably deviating from the ‘classic prog’ coordinates, paradoxically represent the most progressive and original release in the entire career of the group.

Description/Reviews
The album has wonderfully atmospheric keys and orchestrations that really boost the overall sound, and they also remind us that Komie is trying to make a beautiful album, not just a bunch of guitar wankery.  Indeed, the entire focus of the album seems to be melody and beauty, not a showcase for guitar skills, although that comes into play quite often.

And here we are at the final part of the triptych that the RanestRane composed watching the famous 2001: A Space Odyssey. Recorded in Rome at La Genesi Studio and The Shellseeker Studio Starchild. presents itself with an original artwork and decorated with a spatial theme. The Roman band with this third album reach the peak of their artistic career, A sound that strikes every lover of music and that brings us back to the dreamed atmosphere of Pink Floyd, Genesis and the most visceral of Radiohead. Special guests are Steve Rothery and Steve Hogard of Marillion who embellish with solos and a whole song written and interpreted the album.

The band changed its name from Banaau to Hollowscene. The album features a "concept" titled "Broken Coriolanus" that is formed by the first five tracks. This "concept" is composed on text taken from "Coriolanus" by William Shakespeare and spans the whole tragedy.
Track #6 (titled "The Worm") is based on the poem "The Conqueror Worm" by E.A. Poe. This is a reissue of an original Banaau song from the 90's and has been rearranged (and also expanded) for the new formation.
Track #7 is a cover of the famous "The Moon is Down" by Gentle Giant.

Description/Reviews
The tracks seem to blur into one another as the album progresses and soon enough a swell of shimmering guitar begins to flow from the speakers, surfing over an oddly complicated rhythm. You have to listen hard as there are extra beats subtly injected into the slowly surging rhythm; the bass is succulent and has a really sweet tone that joins perfectly with the guitar array. Together they work to produce this swollen, wind-borne sound, a restlessness that sees the song ebb and flow, rarely staying in one place, constantly searching out another peak.

Description/Reviews
Asbury Park-based psychedelic/progressive rock outfit Karmic Juggernaut has just released their new full-length album, The Dreams That Stuff Are Made Of, a collection of thirteen unique tunes written by the group. Recorded and mixed at The Hangar at the New Jersey Shore, the new album is a departure from the band’s earlier work, featuring new frontman Daimon Santa Maria, keyboardist Jake Hughes, a robust horn section (Joe Gullace & Ian Gray), mallet work by percussionist AJ Merlino, theremin by bassist Cody McCorry, and an array of other instruments. The result is an vintage-inspired album with a postmodern view of psychedelia. This new record draws from an eclectic variety of genres and musical tastes, and touches on topics such as today’s political climate, B-movies, mental illness, and features satirical approaches of contemporary living.
