Description/Reviews
Airportman presents "David", an intrumental-sensorial project based on overlapping improvisations. The aim of this project was to allow each member to express his feelings in absolute freedom, by means of several languages such as music, theatre and visual arts.
Starting from a common point of view, they added their own piece of story and their most secret feelings, using music, text or images - often without any explanation or clear reason.  This is David: a complex and visceral world of sounds, made of microcosms, fears and anxieties.
David belongs to everyone, but is something different for each of us. David is a view in the wreckage of our society, a faint light, a breath and a jump into the void.
Goodbye David.

Description/Reviews
The style is melodic progressive metal in the vein of early Dream Theater (period When Dream And Day Unite and Images And Words) and early Pain Of Salvation (period Remedy Lane). Eriksson has a pleasant powerful voice and has the ability to express his emotions when singing the lyrics to the song.
The album is a concept album that took almost six years from idea to release. It's the touching story of one man's journey between hope and despair through life. There is a lot of high-quality progressive metal to be heard on this album from all the musicians. Absolutely my favourite album track is the impressive Watching Me Bleed that probably summarises what D.O.A. stands for musically. (Peter Swanson at dprp.net)

Description/Reviews
Melbourne trio Krakatau have definitely found that ‘something’ in the ‘Water Near A Bridge,’ their debut on Trouble in Mind Records. More specifically on the stellar opening cut ‘Riddells Creek,’ an absolute stunner slice of key heavy prog. Sounding like a future transmission from a half-remembered past, ‘Riddells Creek’ evokes a glimpse of some mist shrouded yester-world through lenses coated in a proggy film.

Markus Neuwirth

Description/Reviews
It’s actually a musical setting of a German poem, “Der Knabe im Moor” by Annette von Droste-Hülshoff, an early 19th century German writer.  The boy on the moor tells the tale of a boy crossing a dark moor, beset by ghosts and ghoulies,  before a guardian angel helps him see the light, thus enabling his escape.
To this end, Herr Neuwirth has conjured up a fine mix of prog, metal and even folk to soundtrack the six stanzas in six corresponding parts, and he does a remarkably good job of it, for one so young.  It’s been remixed and remastered for this release, and it’s certainly something that fans of prog and gothic literature should think about investigating.  But only if they’re brave at heart.

Description/Reviews
Lunocode always try to combine melancholy with aggression in their music. They do not fear sounding ethereal, or taking a more metal oriented approach. Lunocode take pride in following the strange path they have followed since the group's inception. The path in search of pure art is hard, but always worth following.
That is why, in 2012 they conceived a show, halfway between a theatrical monologue and a concert, with an actor reciting some spoken parts. This gave the band a chance to combine their love of acoustic guitars and a melancholy atmosphere with their interest in the universe and human nature, which always emerges in their lyrics. The show was called "C'è vita intelligente sulla Terra?" ("Is There Intelligent Life On Earth?") and, for the occasion, the band recorded the entire show live at the "Teatro di Anghiari" theatre.
After this magic night, the guys entered the studio to record a new version of each song on the show, with a more elaborate arrangement. Some songs were completely stripped down and rebuilt. Lunocode pursue creativity above all else. The band then put these two recordings together in the form of a double album, in a gorgeous digipack edition, with the same title as the theatrical show.

Description/Reviews
From the opening Ringbahn, which builds and builds, to the moody Gesiterbanhof, with its synthesiser sounds, and the driving pulsating beat reminiscent of early Jean-Michel Jarre, this is a joy to listen to. This album flows like all the best ambient electronic Krautrock albums should. With the wonderful understated cover work and the music it contains working so well together. A highlight of this intellectually produced, well performed and composed album, is the eight minutes-plus work of West-tangente, The fluid and ethereal guitar of Graf-Ulbrich complements the ambient electronic soundscapes that Fanger & Schönwälder pull together so naturally. There is a deftness of touch and a finesse to their work.

Who says a band needs to disappear for years at a time between albums? Pantera dropped a classic album every other year from 1990 to 1996. The late Chuck Schuldiner unleashed seven classic Death albums in the span of just over ten years. So when a band hits the kind of creative stride, chemistry and metallic momentum Within The Ruins  tapped into with last year s breakthrough album they d be fools to slow down now.
Within The Ruins wasted no time in crafting a new career-defining landmark, Phenomena. The band s new album is the next step forward from Elite, further jettisoning all but the best components of the oft-maligned deathcore genre to reveal a band whose all-out assault of heaviness won t be confined by genre. The band shreds with the best of them of course, maintaining a place next to Between The Buried And Me and The Faceless, but the new album is even more about songs than scales.
Phenomena maintains an emphasis on showmanship with ever increasing diversity, smartly sidestepping predictable structures and contrived breakdowns. Within The Ruins are exploring the type of sonic textures and esoteric territory explored by Gojira. In some spots, a more nuanced vocal assault creeps in, with powerful might.
Album kickoff Gods Amongst Men boasts a clearly defined chorus, the first of its kind to truly emerge. Fans of the slower, sludgy groove of Feeding Frenzy are sure to dig The Other.
The dissonant guitars and evocative synthesizers of Calling Card would seem out of place in their earlier work, but on Phenomena, it s just part of the rich tapestry.
The fans wholeheartedly embraced Elite. Considering how much Phenomena takes Within The Ruins music to the next level, there s no limit to how far this band can go.

Description/Reviews
Telos is the third full length recorded by Forevermore, and the first with Kramer Lowe of Onward to Olympas fame on the mic. Fans of OTO will be happy Lowe has not lost his touch, keeping his signature sound while not making Forevermore sound like the frontman’s previous band. While not breaking any new ground in the genre, Forevermore create a perfect blend of progressive metal that is equal parts technical and easy to listen to.
“Forcefed” kicks the album off after a short fade in with guitarists Jered Storm and Alex Smith leading the way with expertly tapped leads that soon turn into more hardcore influenced riffs that are sure to rattle some brains. Sammy Vaughn also makes his presence known as a formidable drummer in the metalcore realm. Vaughn absolutely owns the bridge section of the opener with impressive cymbal work while his occasional use off count breakdowns spice things up a bit.

Description/Reviews
Nearly lost to the sands of time, a recently discovered set of vintage ‘70s recordings from Chicago-based jazz-rock ensemble The Flock will finally be released as Heaven Bound - The Lost Album on July 22 through Cleopatra Records imprint Purple Pyramid! These never-before-released recordings feature founding Flock members on what could have been the band’s magnificent fourth album.
The Flock were one of the most adventurous bands in the jazz/fusion music scene of the ‘70s alongside Chicago and Blood Sweat & Tears, well known for featuring violin great Jerry Goodman (later of Mahavishnu Orchestra) on the band’s first two Columbia Records albums - 1969’s self-titled debut and 1970’s Dinosaur Swamps. After Goodman left, a reformed Flock released Inside Out on Mercury Records in 1975, and though the band was dropped from the label shortly thereafter, Glickstein and Karpman continued to write and record together, with Smith popping in every now and again, in anticipation of a new recording contract. No such deal ever materialized, however, and so those recordings were shelved away for safe keeping, never released...until now!
Featuring dynamic musicianship, rich vocal harmonies and the unmistakable warm fuzz of vintage ‘70s guitar on such standout tunes as “Heaven Bound,” “Don’t You Know (Who I Am),” and “Love Away,” this collection will not only keep the spirit of Flock alive but also the spirit of superbly crafted classic rock!

Description/Reviews
The Phantom of the Opera is perhaps one of the most iconic horror films in history. Directed by Rupert Julian in 1925, this silent movie starred Lon Chaney in the lead role of the deformed Phantom who haunts the Paris Opera House causing murder and mayhem in an attempt to make the woman he loves a star.
One Way Static Records proudly presents the latest installment in this tradition with a brand new modern re-score composed & performed by UK septet The Laze.
Influenced by a history of horror soundtracks, from Bernard Hermann & Angelo Badalamenti to Goblin & John Carpenter, The Laze implemented elements of Progressive Rock, Classical, Jazz, Heavy Metal & Electronica in their score. Read the full review by at

Description/Reviews
...a unique record which blends a lot of sublime New Age and jazz fusion styled guitar effects with the melodious precision and surgical incision of the aforementioned Cynic or Swedes Theory in Practice, taking it to an entirely different level. I'm also reminded a little of Lykathea Aflame's Elvenefris, not that the two discs sound much alike, but they both have that penchant for a combination of simplistic melodic, synthesized components with hostility...though where that Czech anomaly is founded more on a grind ethic, this has a more acrobatic guitar wizard feel to it, which when bound to the 80s-like ambient tones and tasteful use of ethereal female vocals, seems as ridiculous as it does refreshing.

   With
Synergy Vocals: Wordless Choir
Anghared Brinn: Angel voice
Tom Newman: Bodran

Description/Reviews
Rob Reed was inspired to become a musician and composer at the age of seven after discovering Mike Oldfield’s Tubular Bells. So inspired was he by the album, that he learned to play not just one, but all the instruments featured on the album. Sanctuary is the fruition of a decision that Rob made in January 2013 to utilise his abilities as a multi-instrumentalist and create an album in the style of Tubular Bells. Rob Reed was determined to keep his vision of Sanctuary intact and play all the instruments himself. Reed was conscious that he was treading a fine line in preventing Sanctuary becoming a pastiche of Tubular Bells. The result is an astounding piece of emotional instrumental music in two parts, featuring an astonishingly orchestral sound whilst using a comparatively small amount of instruments.

Description/Reviews
"Shelter" is a not a version of the Rolling Stones classic ... , a rollicking opener nevertheless that immediately goes for a rhythmic jugular, get the juices boiling , and as such, a perfect appetizer. Bouncy, upbeat and confident, this will get one's toes tapping in a hurry, a haunting melody and a surging vocal to prove the point.
Things get somewhat more symphonic and grandiose with "Eye of the Wind", a Celtic-tinged masterpiece that features a grandiloquent yet surly axe solo that screeches boldly, right from the opening bars. Evocative commentary on contemporary issues as 'the mystery of life unfolds again', the modern delivery seeks to appeal and it does so convincingly amid 'the dark troubled times'. Call this CNN-prog, if you wanna!
The lengthiest track is the 7 minute 23 epic "Blood on Your Hands", a moody hymn that takes no shortcuts and introduces once more some towering guitar playing of the highest order. Colin's voice is spell-binding, deeply resonating, vivid and dignified. There is a strong Gabriel feel here that only adds to the glory. The song's dynamics are thrilling, aided by some precise backing vocals, creating an ebb and flow from serene to explosive that keeps the heart beating wildly. Lovely stuff, indeed.

Description/Reviews
The album begins with the sounds of waves and thunder, underlining the theme.  These influences arrive in the same order: first the waves of tone and note, then the thunder of riffs.  This is true not only on opening track “Wanderlust” and lead single “Compass”, but throughout the album as well.  Tides builds up to its payoff tracks, which are lodged in the center of the set.  The first of these, “Guarimba”, follows the album’s quietest, most meditative track.  Its sonic eruption begins with rapid drumming and extends to fierce guitar work.  The energy level never lets up, as Fernando Rodriguez retains the percussive pace throughout.  This is followed by “Oyster”, an understated piece with a keen sense of flow ~ again, like the tides.  Then on “Flips”, it’s time to honor the bass; every band member gets some time in the sun.  A slight reggae tinge is augmented by surprising trumpet, creating a perfect summer track.  Closer “Diaspora” takes the band into more typical post-rock territory, offering eleven minutes of neap and spring, capped by screaming vocals; but the mid-album triptych is the most encouraging sign that the band is starting to develop into a singular entity.
