Description/Reviews
Stop Motion Orchestra is characterized by contradictions. The Austin, TX collective play a unique brand of instrumental art music that is as intricate as it is accessible. Their songs are lighthearted, but performed with an almost manic exuberance. On their debut, Instant Everything!, the group presents a futuristic musical vision that is exotic in its approach, yet so fully realized as to appear obvious, leaving you wondering why no one thought of it before. Instant Everything! is a melting pot of ideas, and often several present themselves within a song: a chamber rock group finds itself taken over by a ska band, only to end up stuck in an 80s video game score, while being chased by the police from a 70s cop show. While this may sound like a mess, the band's instrumental virtuosity and magnificently focused compositions keep things from devolving into pastiche. Progressive in the truest sense of the word, Stop Motion Orchestra create an exquisite and charming musical world and invite you to join them.
