  1. The latest album by the Italian band Sfaratthons “Appunti di viaggio” was released a couple weeks ago. "Travel Notes" is the translation of the album title and it’s also the entirely instrumental tune with which the CD begins: a suite of about ten minutes, in which the initial sound of the sea opens the way to strings, synthesizers, guitars at 12 strings and mellotron, which alternate between frequent rhythmic changes and sonorities, ingredients that will also be found in "Vela", another piece with typical prog-rock features, sometimes psychedelic. In "Cielo Nero" and "Notte" classic sounds and aggressive rock features merge: a repeated and hypnotic piano arpeggio introduces the first of the two tracks, before giving way to the moog and distorted guitar, while an electronic sequence, a clear homage to the first and valid "synth-pop" sound experiments of the Eighties, opens the song dedicated to the most intimate part of the day, the night. In the three songs in English "With the strength of my voice", "Trust" and "Your war, our war" the band travels to different places in the world, moving from Syria, the scene of frequent human tragedies, to Colombia, for years in war, but now perhaps on the road to peace and hope, as called for by former President Santos.
The songs in dialect "Vaije" (I’m going) and "Ne journe, n'anne" (One day, one year) are two authentic pearls that embellish the work of the Sfaratthons, thanks to the fusion of jazz / rock and folk / ethnic : the presence of the Corale "Trebula" by Quadri (CH) - one of the oldest and most prestigious in Abruzzo region - within the second of the two pieces, represents a real cameo, which is also unusual in the world of rock music.
