Description/Reviews:
The Orphaned Bee’s EP is a 23-minute sonic journey through elemental themes, blending synth-driven soundscapes with atmospheric depth. Opening with “Rain,” the EP immediately sets a cinematic, almost sci-fi tone, while “Water” introduces a heavier, battle-like intensity with distorted vocal effects. “Sanctuary” slows things down, evoking solitude and calm after a storm, while “Fire” explores rhythmic flickers of sound, mirroring a dancing flame. The EP concludes with “Ascendance,” a return to its sci-fi roots, closing the experience in a sweeping, experimental synth finale. It is a soundtrack for a sci-fi movie as yet unmade.

Description/Reviews:
A Dark Poem, Part I: The Shores of Melancholia is Green Carnation’s latest album, the first in a trilogy that is sure to please longtime fans of the band’s epic, landmark release, Light of Day, Day of Darkness. The Shores of Melancholia feels of two worlds; a level of immediacy combined with this insistent feeling that, yes, something substantial is indeed brewing within Green Carnation’s creative minds.
The album opens up with two back-to-back bangers that incorporate the catchy rock arrangements that helped define the band’s Blessing in Disguise era. “As Silence Took You” and “In Your Paradise” are melodic, with strong hooks and choruses that welcome listeners to Green Carnation’s newfound heaviness.
“Me My Enemy” starts out slow, anchoring a spacey, almost jazz fusion groove from drummer Jonathan Alejandro Perez with a bass line from Roger that’s impossible to deny. This song features some of the album’s most notably memorable lyrics, as well, as Nordhus delivers what’s perhaps the album’s definitive vocal performance. This song’s dark melancholy is juxtaposed against “The Slave That You Are,” an aggressive throwback to Green Carnation’s underground past that features guests vocals from Enslaved’s Grutle Kjellson.
Elsewhere, the album’s title track feels mysterious and moody, a song with a vibe that matches the evocative cover art from former Dark Tranquility guitarist Niklas Sundin. “The Shores of Melancholia” retains a chorus that’s striking and dynamic, thanks to the subtle keyboard playing of Kenneth Silden. Finally, “Too Close to the Flame” brings the album to a fittingly grand finale, clocking in at nearly 10 minutes, with some of the album’s most progressive arrangements. At the same time, however, the song breezes by with a natural sense of song craft that’s sure to make Green Carnation fans want to replay their journey to The Shores of Melancholia from the very beginning.

Description/Reviews:
"Raises" is a genre-defying record that fuses classic, progressive and industrial metal with elements of synthwave and electronic music creating a modern and hybrid sound that speaks equally to fans of metal, prog and experimental music.
At the heart of "Raises" lies a conceptual journey built around themes of rebirth, transcendence and emotional elevation. The album’s symbolic core is the image of a volume knob in constant ascent—an allegory for the need to rise above indifference, superficiality and disconnection. Melodic yet heavy, nostalgic yet futuristic, "Raises" blends the epic attitude of ‘80s metal with the intellectual daring of ‘90s prog and the slick textures of modern synths.

Claudio Ridolfi - accordion
Alvaro Fella (Jumbo) - vocals (12)

Description/Reviews:
With “La Materia del Suono” (The Matter of Sound), his first solo record, the multi-instrumentalist from Perugia allows his creativity to literally explode and flood into a mixture of music genres that is no other than the true spirit of progressive rock.
We are dealing with a cinematic concept album, the result of a compositional process that began years ago on the piano, an instrument that in fact dominates the stage from the first to the last note over a mainly jazz-rock and fusion rhythmic-melodic core. Countless contaminations are to be found throughout each track: classical, lyrical, ethnic, folk, and rock music, with several Moog and Mellotron performances that pay tribute to the Scandinavian prog, while flute and saxophone – played by Eva Morelli from Il Bacio della Medusa – frequently evoke jazz-rock and 1970s progressive music.
The album is fully instrumental, with the exception of the closing “Ciò che trascende” (What Transcends) whose lyrics are sung by the legendary Jumbo’s unmistakable vocalist Alvaro Fella, and explicitly invite the listeners to be always themselves and to constantly ask existential and philosophical questions in an increasingly materialistic and cold world.
With “La Materia del Suono” Diego Petrini eventually manages to make his few guest musicians sound like an orchestra, and proves himself to be a quite unique musical talent!

Total Time 44:40

Credits
Karen Langley – vocals, arrangements
Rob Williams – guitar, guitar synth, programming
Jon Sharp – drums
    With
Paul Smith – acoustic bass
Chris Gill - bass

Description/Reviews:
BABAL have come up with a blend of songs that illustrate the band’s improvisational skills, still retaining musical ideas that weave poetry and dynamic vocals that are at the band’s core.
Opening track “One Big Family” is a full-on attack on social media; the rise of the biggest brain-washing experiment in history; “eye sockets sore, mind in chaos, thoughts flying round, like a bird in a cage, manic with facts and terrible rage! Nowhere to go, I can’t turn the page!”.
“The Best Restaurants” is a sharp take on poverty consciousness and opposing huge wealth, and a vain hope that religions may save us, but very probably not. ”All I saw was a crowd of starving souls, chewing at their wishes”.
“The World that we Know” is a plea for the World to wake up to the real possibility of extinction, “I wanna green world! I wanna green world! I want it to smell good; I don’t want it to stink like it does at the moment! Open your arms and let it in!”.
“Cake Music” is a satire on the virtues of neo-liberalism, “recycle now and do your bit! Be a match when the fires are lit; move a little closer to the cholera pit!”
“We Shall Be Fables” is a song that lulls the listener, yet reminds us ultimately of our mortality (one of Karen’s recurring lyrical themes), “life is eating us up, we shall be Fables, when the noon-tide beckons and the reaper reckons; we shall be Fables”
Title track, “Running in the Gutter” is a love song, poignant yet hopeful that love can still make the difference in all our lives; “you won’t applaud, it has a drive, it’s not a lot till love arrives! Love is not a number, it lives, it dies, running in the gutter, it doesn’t strive”. We can all get there, no matter how far down in the gutter we are.

Description/Reviews:
It is an extreme variety of the form that is explored here, and in this case delivered by a band that appear to be rather fond of applying a number of contrasting elements in their compositions. At the most extreme, we get passages of high tempo and high intensity escapades alternating with gentle, light toned and flowing escapades of frail and serene beauty here, the latter often being more minimalist in approach as well as execution. In between we detour into atmospheric laden, dark toned metal landscapes, a little bit of thrash metal oriented passages come calling too, with off kilter and quirky sections that flirt a bit with a more traditional variety of progressive metal included but also majestic, powerful and Wagnerian types of extreme metal being a paid a visit or two. That we have an instrument detail or two with a possible folk music inspiration  may be worth noting too. Atmospheric laden, melodic backing vocals is a feature throughout, and while the lead vocals very occasionally may have a similar form of delivery the main parts of the lead vocals revolve around a style that is twisted, distorted - or both. An album to seek out by those who enjoy a more inclusive, borderline experimental and contrast-oriented variety of extreme progressive metal. (Olav M. Bjornsen at progressor.net's facebook)

Engineering, mixing and mastering by Mike Reina.
Produced by Mike Reina.

Description/Reviews:
Snakes of Albuquerque is the debut recording from the rock and jazz, free improvising, classically informed, adventurously rhythmic, and memorably tuneful power cello trio Skullcap.
This is not a band that is easy to pigeonhole. The song titles offer a kind of road map through its unpredictable terrain. ‘Journey to the Sunset’, ‘Snakes of Albuquerque’: these suggest Gothy darkness, jumper cable skronk, and an internationalist mindset, all qualities apparent in Skullcap’s sound. But tying those attributes to a single genre? Not going to happen.
Snakes of Albuquerque is a record of instrumental rock that doesn't sound like anyone else. With this instrumentation, how could it?

Music & lyrics by Kalle Koo
Recorded, mixed & mastered by Janne Saksa
Album cover by Tuomas Vuorensola

Description/Reviews:
While At the Hollow’s soundscape was serene and sensitive, tranquillity has transformed into rage, anger and power that comes from deep within. The album’s music combines the raw sensitivity and punk attitude of Apulanta’s Kiila with the heavy melodic nature of Dissection’s Reinkaos album. The drums hit hard, the riffs cut deep, and the vocals carry with strength. Despite the heavy surface, Surunaamio also carries a deep blue melancholy, not unlike Juha Tapio. The combination of Surunaamio doesn’t neatly fit into any single genre, but it contains influences from different directions and makes it something entirely its own. Light, shadows and every shade in between.

Description/Reviews:
A roster of great contributors come together in this project helmed by Norwegian musician and composer Eivind Lorentzen (ex-Gentle Knife, Oldenborre, K, Synsbedragerne etc). Together they create an album of evocative minimalist prog characterized by great performances interspersed with readings of Rilke. Firmly rooted in the prog, modern classical and nordic jazz realms, and nodding to Vasks, Reich, Fripp, Frahm, Bartsch and others.
Repeating motives in asymmetric meters are contrasted and echoed with live strings, drums and acoustic and electric guitars.  A listener phrased it as “humanistic minimalism”. At first glance apparently nothing much goes on… but then it does… Hope remains a central dimension in the record, expressed in the album title Leave Nobody Behind and the eponymous pieces as well as in the pieces Dimensions of Hope I-II, and notwithstanding The Dark Hours of my Being (a Rilke poem recited on the record).

Leonardo Spampinato: guitar
Davide Sebartoli: keyboards
Francesco Scordo: bass
Leonardo Puglisi: drums

Description/Reviews:
Composer, author, singer, guitarist, dreamer Phil Selvini defines his artistic production as classically '70s progressive rock, with melancholic solutions and extensive use of organs, synths and mellotron, complicated structures and long-lasting songs. Influenced by King Crimson, Genesis, Yes, Pink Floyd, Radiohead, with the Mind Warp Phil Selvini has achieved the goal of being able to lead a collective capable of reproducing and rearranging his songs. This reality is represented as an entity, a container of emotions, the fusion and opposition of ideas, order and disorder, the most stormy chaos and the most solemn quiet, the mind alien to the body.
Phil introduces the five tracks of T.E.T.R.U.S. as follows: "In To Make Ends Meet alienation and mass control, consumerism and empty conformism are the main themes. The rhythm is nervous, the atmosphere at times disturbing and dreamy at the same time, they evoke images of empty people in search of a leader, like sheep in need of a shepherd. Whoever dares to rebel against the rules is considered a madman by a conservative, greedy society populated by schizophrenic men. The introspective and melancholic Riding In The Fog recalls, from time to time, Pink Floyd with its ascending melodies and evocative passages here give shape to a sleepless and silent ghost that rides through the hills on a foggy night. The Last 48 Hours and the suite The Mind Warp are somehow connected, they tell the emotions that can be felt due to the loss of a loved one. Pain, mourning, delirium, threatening shadows and the inner feeling of cold that an empty house can transmit. But here the marble house can also be understood as a metaphor for the tomb, and the general atmosphere of these last two pieces is that of a touching and sincere elegy".

Description/Reviews:
An album that introduces a peculiar fusion of ethno-worldbeat, progressive rock and art rock.
"Age of Fragility" is a concept album that creates the most suitable sound environment to represent particular moods of modern life, telling stories of isolation, indifference, emotional dependence, fragile relationships, self-sabotage and depression. Through its poignant lyrics, the album paints a vivid portrait of the fragility and complexity of the human experience.
The album was , where an incredible ensemble of musicians gave life to the compositions of Marco Mattei, who is also the producer of the album.  The result is a deeply emotional and engaging sonic journey, with songs that strike deep chords, offering listeners a rewarding experience with every listen.

Description/Reviews:
Zio Crocifisso is an Italian instrumental avant-prog band. The character we portray (taken from Verga's novel "I Malavoglia") represents the expression "there's none so deaf as those who will not hear".
We are inspired by bands such as King Crimson, Poil, Melvins, Tool, Zu and Sleepytime Gorilla Museum.
This album is the result of the merging of three different approaches to music. Rather than finding a common ground, we tried to merge our ideas to find different and hopefully interesting solutions. Hope you enjoy what we did.
This material is released on CD by AMS Records, and includes all music from 2024's Campana di Legno EP + new unreleased material named "Trappola per Topi" for a total lenght of + 50:16 +

Description/Reviews:
This time, the band chose to strip away the extra layers and focus on the core – the seven members. The goal was to maximize the potential of this group, and the result is an album that is rawer and fiercer than anything they’ve done before – yet still filled with all the qualities Pymlico has become known for: melodic, groovy tunes and powerful solos, all wrapped in a modern production.
Songwriting and arrangements have been a more collective effort than ever before, with each song helping to shape the overall direction of the album. The sound is more organic and less polished, and the album has been painted with a wider and more dynamic brushstroke than previous releases.

Description/Reviews:
A New World If You Can Take It blends modern metalcore, post-hardcore, and progressive rock with philosophical and spiritual themes. Lyrically, it draws from real-life mystical encounters, apocalyptic worldviews, and personal reckonings. From the crushing intensity of “After Me, The Flood” to the cryptographic experimentation of “Cherub,” the album is rich with symbolism, sonic depth, and intention. With tracks engineered and recorded over an 18-month period, the album incorporates ciphers, backmasking, and musical cryptograms, making it as much a cerebral experience as an emotional one. The album’s thematic backbone explores transformation through “Time and Alchemy,” set against the ghostly backdrop of the Rust Belt and surreal encounters with underground spiritual communities.

Description/Reviews:
Searing, atmospheric and hypnotic, Love Unfold The Sun deftly summons free jazz, Middle Eastern and hard rock elements as the canvas for sparkling telepathic interplay and muscular grooves.
“Explode Yourself” is a raucous, joyous celebration of exploding yourself with and for the love of life. "Explode Yourself" is the group's first studio release, offering new tracks as well as a more detailed, concise treatment of previous live material, while still maintaining their trademark spontaneity and sensitivity.
The vibe is set right away with The Bite That Feeds, which encapsulates much of what Love Unfold The Sun does - hard rock, Middle Eastern elements, group interplay, dynamic shifts – all in one concise punch, taking no quarter right out of the gate and going from there.
The album moves straight into Delirium, a hard blues-y feel with a Middle Eastern overlay and a bit of Sabbath–esque menace in the turnaround. A few tunes later we encounter the 2010 composition Rising, inspired by and dedicated to the many thousands creating the winds of change at the time known as the Arab Spring.
The final track on Explode Yourself is Saba, a loose piece around the Saba Zamzam maqam. A slow and sexy, funky groove with a wide range of dynamics and spaces, the piece is often Love Unfold The Sun’s encore piece – and thus a natural way to close the journey of this veteran band’s long awaited debut studio album.
