Description/Reviews
The music is a blend of Mexican jazz rock/progressive rock influenced by traditional Mexican musics, just as Cazbezas de Cera's music is, which will come as no surprise when you learn that Luz de Riada was started by Ramses Luna, formerly of Cabezas. Having said that, the music here is more firmly towards jazz rock/progressive rock to my ears than CDC. (waysidemusic.com)

The Mantras "Knot Suite"

Total Time 41:43

Line-up
Keith Allen - Guitars, Vocals
Brian Tyndall - Bass, Vocals
Julian Sizemore - Keyboards, Vocals
Brent Vaughn - Percussion, Vocals
Justin Loew - Drums

Description/Reviews
Opening track “Here We Go” eases listeners with a looping sample and some lush orchestration before a snaking, winding jam splits the song in half. Bassist Brian Tyndall shines throughout the instrumental track, his deep line cutting through the mix and giving the higher end excursions on the piano and guitar an unavoidable counter-balance of weight and purpose. On the title track, “Knot Suite” The Mantras manage to walk the fine line between immersive instrumental passages alongside a positive lyrical outlook without skewing too far in either direction.

Line-up

Mike Bazini - programming
Tony Meola - drums
Chvad SB - programming

Description/Reviews
Larva Lumps is a startling record: it somehow flawlessly mixes industrial noise and prog rock into a beautifully stream-of-conscious work that is at once fairly brutal and lovingly serene. The opening piece, Driving Through Darkness, could be the title of a pop-ballad, until you realize the actual meaning of the word 'driving'; jumping out at you seemingly in medias res, the album and track crash thru a minute of jazz-improv and clicking bass that give way to a delightful guitar, before grabbing you again on the road to darkness. The second track, Carving Song, is an industrial monster that sounds like the spawn of Test Dept. and Cubanate, and the epic, 22-minute long closer The Perks of Being a Perv, an instrumental throbbing piece of industrial-meets-prog confusion, is breathtaking.

Total Time 34:38

Line-up
Simon Grove - Bass
Troy Wright - Drums
Plini - Guitars & everything else

Description/Reviews
Plini‘s sound and style have become unique that many guitarists and composer follow the way he’s traced and enlist him as inspiration. On Handmade Cities, not only is there an atmosphere of optimism and triumph, Plini‘s riffs often depend on climbing and descending patterns. Although they are rarely melodic in the conventional sense, Plini‘s music has an atmosphere that washes over the listener and absolves them of the intellectual challenge generally associated with tech-centric music. This is certainly not to say that the music isn’t intelligent; rather, it is thoughtfully constructed in such a way that the numerous technical solos, riffs and fleeting moments of ambiance are all poised in a single direction, like a river.

Description/Reviews
Shifting moods and styles throughout the album. Definitely not samey. A clear example of this is the shift from the heaviest track (humorously titled Cupcake) featuring scream vocals and chugging riffs, directly into the next track that draws from many jazz-fusion influences. This really helped sell this album to me, as I had begun to feel like the band were going heavy far too often, with little shift in the dynamics. Khanfusion was the track that broke this rule, at times sounding rather like the legendary Return to Forever, but also including a section where the band let up the fast pace to opt for a more chilled lounge jazz sound that doesn’t sound a bit insincere.

Description/Reviews
What makes “Sonance” so great is that it’s an all instrumental affair that could have either harsh or clean vocals over it but the music is so great, it doesn’t need it. This is how prog metal should be. It’s technical, it’s heavy but it’s also melodic and ethereal.

"Yacht Club" combines influences from various jazz and rock artists to produce a strange concoction of music that resides somewhere between heavy riff rock and a customer service "please hold" soundtrack. It is big but funky, beefy and crispy, and will certainly have you smiling by it's conclusion.

   With

Description/Reviews
Distinct cultures and a plenty of musical genres explain – or at least point some possibilities – that the multi-instrumentalist Bruno Mansini created at "The Golden Soul", the third album of its career, available in CD and virtual format next august. This is such a emblematic release to the artist, born and raised in São Paulo, who sings every notes and plays all the instruments in 10 tracks, which contains references to progressive rock in harmony with hard rock, brazilian musical elements, besides soft remembrances of heavy metal,  70ies and 80ies sonorities.
Produced by Mansini on its own, "The Golden Soul" is the last album of a trilogy, which previous ones are "Secrets of Green" (2015) and "Dreams form the Earth" (2013). The journey to inner comprehension and all the stages to reach an utter consciousness form the lyrical concept that unites the three releases. For this purpose, Mansini deals with the search for fellings and emotions' comprehension, always with a optimist perspective and attached to the great men's values.
The lyrical concept that dialogues about spirituality and self knowledge have its whole purpose when contextualized together with the sound of "The Golden Soul", full of atmospheres and timings, all involved in a crystalline production.  Deep and remarkable, these songs offer to the listener Mansini's plural references in progressive layers, as far as each instrument appears detailed. Graduate in Music, he's also the responsible for the entire writing and recordings of the album.
Mansini points "The Golden Soul" as an album with many autobiographical moments, when the artist enhance his impressions about life and perceptions about many subjects through distinct musical esthetics. The guitars, for example, were recorded by  Cauê Doktorczyk, where resides the new influencies of hard rock and heavy metal, as far as the percussive work reminds the 70ies progressive rock universe and the pop music of the 80ies (AOR), besides the oriental sonority by using the Sitar,  Tabla, Derbak e Riq.
However, Mansini never deny his roots, the progressive rock, and still keep "The Golden Soul" pretty closer with the kind of sound bands of the 70ies like Yes did. (progrockmetal.blogspot.com)

Description/Reviews
As one of the first Finish Progressive/Melodic Black Metal bands in the 90’s, their sound has truly evolved into a magical combination of Atmospheric/Progressive/Gothic/Dark Metal elements. Featuring over 65 minutes of music, the seven tracks presented in “Our Voices Shall Remain” will transport the listener to very emotional melodic realms.
Slowly building up with the hypnotic atmosphere of “Mesmerized”, the band creates a very subtle dreamy vibe thanks to the distant guitars and bass guitar line. The band’s earlier Black Metal days are still infused in the music, as songs like “We Used to Speak in Colours” start off quite heavily and slowly mellow into the album’s groove. Only using clean vocals, Henri Koivula, manages to sound a bit like Jukka Vuorinen from Decoryah, adding an extra layer of emotions to the music, tracks like “Lifelines” are a perfect example of this.

Rob Labig - Drums

Description/Reviews
The New Fall of Man's sound is a bit of a challenge to describe. It’s metal, for sure, but the band makes no attempt to fit to any specific sub-genre. They have a plethora of disparate tastes and influences, and the only formula they follow is to write the music they want to hear: metal with a hint of doom, progressive, and dark folk, with themes of violence, vengeance, forgiveness, individualism, and apocalypse.

Description/Review
Here we have eight compositions ranging anywhere from two and half minutes to almost nine. I have to say the music of New Sun is hard for me to describe in words. As I listen I’m filled with certain feelings or emotions but they’re a jumble. Cooper and friends create music that incorporates a melodic vibe that is contrasted by angular minor musical motifs, think mixing Kansas with King Crimson. It’s a unique sound that’s been crafted over the years to where they clearly don’t sound like anyone else, but rather blends or mixes musical styles into one that is simply the sound of New Sun. And that’s a good thing. Three or four of these compositions also bring together an almost ethnic or Worldbeat vibe that reminded me of some of Peter Gabriel’s musical efforts. But again the music may remind me of someone, without ever actually sounding like them. It’s a crafty thing they do. Instrumentally there are lots of acoustic sounds that run throughout the album. These acoustic sounds play nicely against the electric and go a long way to “soften” the tone, taking it a few steps back from simply being heavy or aggressive music. It’s actually a long way from that because even though there are a few crunchy riffs here and there they’re more than balanced by the myriad of other instrumental sounds that pervade these tunes. This is a very satisfying listen in so many ways and would say it contains some of New Sun’s most accomplished music on many different levels. I liked it a lot and highly recommend it to old and new fans alike.  (Jerry Lucky)

Description/Reviews
This vibrant, acoustic piano-driven two-CD set features the cream of Britain's younger expat crop, blending with Indonesian musicians to create a passionate, seamless cultural cross-pollination. Pasar Klewar's exhilarating opening title track possesses a microtonal-informed melody drawn unmistakably from Dharmawan's cultural roots; but its modal nature also affords the pianist and his band mates the freedom to explore everything from Metheny-esque landscapes (though Wingfield's heavily overdriven electric guitar provides a completely non-Metheny vibe during his light-speed solo) to a mid-song shift in mood, where Stavi and Sirkis drive Dharmawan's post-Coltrane, Tyner-via-Beirach-through-Corea exploration of spiritual freedom with similar passion and fire.

Daryono takes an impressive vocal/rebab (three-stringed violin) solo before some empathic three-way interplay amongst the core trio leads to a thoroughly musical drum solo reaching deep into the heart of the song before Stavi and Dharmawan re-enter, bringing this twelve-minute epic to a finish with another brilliant piano solo of grand proportions. Cross-pollinated with Wingfield's additional fiery interaction, the music builds to such a climactic peak that, when it suddenly comes to a stop, the band members shouting "Yeah!!" is left to conclude the track, reflecting the energy clearly felt in the studio.
Its overall freedom may come as a surprise to fans of the more easily digestible So Far, So Close...though that's not to suggest Pasar Klewar is lacking in beauty, flat-out lyricism or eminent appeal.

Description/Reviews
Fred Crase uses his impressive vocal range and multi-instrumental prowess to tell stories of birth, death, and the struggles in between. From the prog-metal stylings of "Words" and "Shapes" to the gospel-tinged "Dad," from the electronica-influenced "Escape" to the crushing heaviness of his cover of Toto's "Africa," it is an album with a little something for everyone.

Description/Reviews
It’s a new release for Rhys Marsh’s Autumnsongs Records and fits right in with the slightly psychedelic Scandinavian prog and post-prog style of the label.  (kinesiscd.com)
The, often epic, songs on show the influence of a wide variety of genres including acoustic folk and the sophisticated side of 1960's pop, with meticulously crafted writing at its core. The songs tell the story of an individual's philosophical, spiritual and evolutionary journey towards finding their place and purpose in this world and at this particular time and are largely based on Pedersen's personal experiences (and his attraction towards the Buddhist worldview).
