Description/Reviews
The band’s debut album is undoubtfully inspired by its creator’s quest for enlightenment and meaning. “Nebulae” is a conceptual vision over life and death, seen in the form of a star’s life-cycle. The record is presented with eleven tracks divided into four chapters, from birth to extinction, creating intense emotional passages through each life stage.
“Nebulae” delivers a strong and dark but yet hopeful atmospheric sound, sometimes almost resembling a movie soundtrack. It combines all their progressive rock influences, including a cover for King Crimson’s “I talk to the wind” and ELP’s “The Sage“, with more contemporary alternative sounds, ranging from the exploding power of “The Prophet” and the ultra heavy guitars on “Watcher of the Light“, to smooth and peaceful sounds like “Deeper” or “Wings of Eternity“, with this last one adding a baroque feel.

Description/Reviews
Because if the different parts of the predominantly as longtracks realized titles flow together, musical structures are falling apart and new structures will develop and melodies, sounds and noises fuse together, the spirit of Pink Floyd seems to blow through the notes. However, despite the significant psychedelic influence Margin keeps his autonomy by melting psychedelic art rock with progressive rock in a homogenous and unique way. Therefore the debut "Psychedelic Teatime" from Margin is not only in the tradition of the great psychedelic art rock in the heyday from the late 1960s through the mid-1970s, but also proves to be likewise a  reference album for contemporary psychedelic prog.

Jean Pierre Louveton

Description/Reviews
Jean Pierre Louveton, aka JPL, is the leader of Progressive Rock bands Nemo and Wolfspring. MMXIV is his fifth solo album since 2002.
We are in 2014, and unfortunately man did not loose his taste for war, power and money. Times have changed, but poverty and wealth remain, and chains that divide people never broke. The kings and the villeins descendants coexist on their own side of the path, and the future seems as black as it was in the beginning.
Upon this concept that connects middle-age and modern life, JPL music is sailing from an era to the other, mixing medieval themes and furious guitars, from-another-age melodies and heavy rhythms. The essence of Progressive Rock in short ! A musical trip as much as a reflection on our common destiny.

Description/Reviews
Stylistically, this band has clearly grown a lot since the last release, though Eira still remain in their pocket of undeniable early-Opeth inspiration. The interplay between heavy and soft passages is outstandingly tasteful and not quite as contrived on this one, with some honestly neigh-perfect clean singing bits. A great deal of the chord driven passages from their previous offering have been replaced with more riffage, and the overall sound is more aggressive when the need calls. Also, can we talk about how much better the drum tone is on this one, despite being electronic (I believe)? Overall, though, there is one change that has been made abundantly clear:
This is a far more melodic Eira.

Description/Reviews
Seven That Spells have garnered quite a reputation on the underground psych scene and from the basis of this album alone it is easy to see why. Hailing from Croatia but with a strong founding in Japanese culture, they deliver a heady dose of deep psych that you may just want to find somewhere safe to lie down to first before listening.
Not that this is obvious from opening track 'In II' whose kaleidoscopic guitar riff signals a descent into the madness that follows. It's all rather run of the mill and basic but that's the trick you see. It completely disarms you whilst also taking on the role of an introductory flight into space.

Matteo Bevilacqua

Description/Reviews
The Lost Generation is the new project from Diaries Of A Hero's bass player Matteo Bevilacqua. The British musician takes a step away from his heavy-metal background, and explores different musical paths, following the footsteps of bands such as PT, Anathema, POS and the softer side of Opeth. The self-titled first album examines various themes focusing mainly on the conditions the youth are living in, and the overall tension that peeked in the 2011 London Riots. Like all concept-albums, it needs to be observed as a whole to fully capture the journey the listener is invited to follow as the musical genres intersect with one another. Progressive rock leads the way to ethereal acoustic sections, electronic experimentations and even a bluegrass track, but the atmosphere is one, undoubtably traveling on the same train that terminates where it began, leaving the listener with no question that the creativity displayed here is only just the beginning...

Description/Reviews
“Progressive” might be a slight misnomer in the sense that, when deconstructed, there’s nothing on here that you haven’t heard before, and let’s face it, we live in an age where just about every metal act that eschews linear song structure in favor of multi-layered instrumentation and expansive lyrical narratives ends up with the ‘prog’ tag. At the risk of getting overly pedantic about it, let’s just go ahead and call Disforia a “smart metal” band not entirely dissimilar to the likes of Pharaoh and Into Eternity (insofar as their sound is built upon a foundation of alternating contrasting-yet-complementary elements that run the gamut from power to melodic death metal). It’s not the sine non qua of the subgenre but it’s intricate and engaging enough to get geeks the world over very giddy.

Ben Sharpe - Guitars
Stephan Evans - Bass
Chris Lobo - Drums

Description/Reviews
Track #1 ‘Cloverlea’ is an ambient intro that feels sort of spacey..until you hear the guitar slide up and down shifting in-and-out of its sustained note/feedback. Then I realised it was a guitar and not some keyboard/synth thing..very clever.
Drums come in and it’s track #2 ‘What’s Yours Was Mine Is Never Leaving’ and it’s more of that roomy/reverby guitar stuff until the bass comes in all dirty and carrying rhythm and melody with it. I’m hooked at this point. At around the 3 minute mark things turn sort of dark and the guitars start strumming instead of picking and the drumming gets a little Tool-ish. Not in complexity..but in feel. Rhythms continue, band follows, pattern builds momentum and this is getting all kinds of wonderful!
Now an interesting thing occurs at about the 5 minute mark. It seems the band has stopped and then there’s a 4-count on the hi hats and they start up again but with what sounds like a whole different song. A proggy one. A nearly 8 minute journey ends with a high and a bit of a surprise. Did not see that coming.

Erik Sorensen: Guitar
William Purcell : Bass
Emmett Ceglia: Drums

Description/Reviews
The debut album from Boston based me(n)tal patients Autocatalytica is almost beyond description. If you pick a dichotomy, light/heavy, fast/slow, stable/unstable for example, it will apply to this record.
Each track will hit you like a wall of sound at times. Opener ‘Oxygonical‘ jams in with dissonant, droning feedback before it slaps you in the face with some inhumanly fast drumming. It is an utterly glorious mess of riffs upon riffs, stabbing rhythms and rasping, unhinged vocals. Comparison between Autocatalytica and Dillinger Escape Plan have been made in past and while they’re right to a certain extent, this doesn’t quite capture how disparate some of the elements are. Think Mutation with some of the flair of Kvelertak and you aren’t even in the right sport, let alone ballpark.

Description/Reviews
"Naturbål" ("Nature's Bonfire") is yet another groundbreaking Folk Metal record in the discography of the Swedish mastermind whose characteristic vocals and unique songs have left their mark on a whole genre. Folkloristic tunes merge with technical guitar riffs and multilayered melodies. Anthem-like refrains provide the finishing touches to this sweeping symbiosis. The songs combine the best of two worlds -- elements of Vintersorg's early works and the technical standard of the later years. Vintersorg is undoubtedly a visionary and offers a brilliant, consistent and sweeping album that is the perfect journey through all the periods of his work.

Description/Reviews
One of a reviewer’s favourite dreams – and, in equal measure, worst nightmares – is to occasionally stumble across a band who are difficult, if not downright impossible, to categorize.
Dot Legacy Album ArtworkSuch an outfit are Parisien quartet Dot Legacy, and this eclectic self-titled debut, which veers between post-rock synchopation, stoner, ambient noise, psychedelia and even jazz, world music and hip hop to produce an album that inherits an avant-garde musical orbit lying somewhere between Russian Circles, Sleep, Pink Floyd, Frank Zappa and Kyuss.
It’s original.  It’s innovative.  It’s brave and daring.  It’s challenging. It’s defiant.  It’s entrancing.  It’s beautiful. (planetmosh.com)

Description/Reviews
All Of It is comprised of ten lushly arranged tracks, including "Miserable," and runs almost 43 minutes. Arrangements are complex -- almost progressive -- and the percussion and rhythm sections are most outstandingly produced. English lyrics again dominate Eatliz' music. Listen for the thick bass lines and drums that punctuate the album from the opening track "One Of Us" onward through the album. This sound is perhaps most evident in the lush arrangement of "Bees." Listen also for the lush harmonies and dense synth washes that join Sivan's vocalize that soar across the top of this outstanding track.

Line-up
Trey Anastasio - guitar, vocals
Page McConnell - keyboards, vocals
Mike Gordon - bass, vocals
Jon Fishman - drums, vocals

Description/Reviews
Fuego asserts itself right off the bat with its fiery nine-minute title track. The long-simmering, shape-shifting rock anthem showcases Anastasio's distinctive guitar shredding and the band's impressive gift for syncopation and exuberant climaxes. Throughout Fuego, Phish embarks on a series of genre exercises: There's straight-ahead gospel-infused rock ("Sing Monica"), slinky cow-funk ("555") and airy, Latin-infused pop ("Waiting All Night"). The record culminates in another fantastic highlight, "Wingsuit," a dreamy lullaby that soothes with the mantra "And it feels good" before swelling to a three-guitar solo in its grandiose finale. Description/Reviews
A powerful album of Berlin School style. And as in all good Berlin School filled by mysticism and of Gothicism, and this one is awesome trust me, the rhythm arises from a troop of baroque noises and gallops to lose breath under the bites of sonic beasts before trying a refuge in a short moment of ambiospherical illusion and to rush again beneath another skin and a new sonic big top always so threatening, always so nerve-racking. An album where the shadows of sequences and of Gothic melodies haunt structures of complex rhythms which never stop seducing the ear.

Description/Reviews
“The Amanuensis”, at least the title, was inspired by author David Mitchell’s novel, “Cloud Atlas”. The complex story lines are the perfect analog for Monuments. Musically, the group weave in and out of themes, motifs, and professor-like note calculations with graceful ease. But lyrically “The Amanuensis” comes from a very different place. “The album is about the Samsara cycle,” reveals Browne (guitar). “The cyclical existence of life that we are all bound to.”

Neil Thomas

Description/Reviews
'Devadatta' is the follow up album to 2010's 'A Century of Lullabies'. Much like it's predecessor, it's another concept album (with more than a nod to the progressive rock genre) mixing stark imagery, social commentary and humanist philosophy to create a tapestry of vivid soul-searching and storytelling. There is immensely detailed substance to this album, which ultimately means that a single listen through is not going to be enough. With catchy choruses and hooky melodies there's plenty to compel the discerning listener to keep hitting the play button over and over again, each time peeling back the layers. From the driving rock thunder of the opening track, 'Adrenalinized', to the acutely intimate 'Charm Offensive', the album offers an array of emotion. Do not be fooled by the number of tracks either. Both 'The Dragon King's Daughter' and 'Moral Compass' are both over 10 minutes long - broken down into suites, they give the impression that you are actually listening to ten or twelve songs, rather than eight.

Description/Reviews
Floating somewhere between psych and avant-rock, Blueblut’s chameleon-like players make a myriad of musical colours. Kurstin takes the role of ethereal ocean siren and walking jazz bassist, Janka of a thrash punk mathrocker and Holub seething at the back, builds and bubbles with grooves and rock energy tearing apart Blueblut’s emerging musical language and inventing new pathways.
